When Ning Wan looked back up what caught her eye was Shao Lili's bleak face across from her. She was mouthing desperately, her face full of despair--

"You took the wrong cup! Mine is the non-alcoholic one!"

But alas, even if she could tell what Shao Lili was trying to say, Ning Wan's reason and self-control were long gone...

She stared at Fu Zheng, then reached out and gave him a little shove. "Hey."

Fu Zheng looked at Ning Wan, then inquiringly at Shao Lili, and finally said nothing prudently.

"Fu Zheng," Ning Wan said, not very happy, "Aren't you going to say something?"

He paused and looked at her. "What do you want me to say?"

"Ning Wan, you're drunk! Stop talking!" Shao Lili hurried over, looking alarmed, and tried to pull Ning Wan up to make her leave.

But the alcohol had completely gone to Ning Wan's head. Her brain had split into two little people, one calm and restrained, the other unbridled and reckless. The reckless one had the upper hand at the moment, controlling her completely and driving reason and calm into the corner.

She turned her glare back onto Fu Zheng. "Are you playing dumb?"

"I asked if you were single and said that I was too. What do you think that implies?" Truly, alcohol emboldens the timid, because it was currently encouraging her current mental irrationality. "Shouldn't you say something right now?"

As she had expected, Fu Zheng's expression slowly changed. He glanced lightly at Shao Lili, then reached out as if to touch Ning Wan on the forehead. "Ning Wan, you're drunk."

She slapped Fu Zheng's hand away in a huff. The grievance and uneasiness of when Fu Zheng hadn't responded to her cherries came back to mind. Obviously, Fu Zheng might have not seen it, but that only made Ning Wan feel even more upset--

"I am not drunk."

She stood up and swayed drunkenly on her feet. Fortunately, Fu Zheng had also stood at almost the same time, and when she wobbled weakly, he caught her in his arms.

Who knew if she had been wronged too much or if she had completely given up? Ning Wan leaned against Fu Zheng and felt the warmth of his body burn the last residues of rationality from her mind.

However, although her brain had clearly been completely replaced by drink, Ning Wan looked outwardly very calm. She pushed Fu Zheng away and took a step back, opening up some distance between them. Then she cleared her throat and stared at him as if solemnly bringing up an important conversation--

"Actually, I've always wanted to bring this matter up to you. It's like this. I see that you're single, and I'm single too. We're colleagues and we know each other quite well. Although you're still an intern, I think quite highly of you."

"Recently, Yuelan Neighbourhood's blind date group, 'A Thousand Miles of Marriage', hasn't been performing as well."

As Ning Wan spoke, Fu Zheng kept staring at her. Seeing that she was in earnest, his expression, which had started out somewhat confused, had morphed into a more meaningful look. He regarded her carefully, appearing calm in the midst of chaos, and in his unhurried voice there seemed to appear a little smile. "So?"

Was he making fun of her?

She might have been drunk, but Ning Wan still felt a little cross about that. But she had already come this far, so in for a penny, in for a pound. "So, do we want to help them out a bit with their performance metrics?"

Fu Zheng opened his mouth slightly as if he was about to say something, but meanwhile Shao Lili's expression across from her stole the show. What the fuck is fucking going on?!?, her face seemed to cry. She had her hands pressed hard against her mouth for fear that she might scream.

Ning Wan was puzzled. Hadn't she been the one to advise her to boldly confess? Why did Shao Lili look like an innocent passer-by who had suddenly found out a huge secret and was soon about to be silenced?

But when Fu Zheng attempted to speak, Ning Wan wouldn't let him. She was afraid that he would turn her down. "I know this is an important decision. I hope you'll consider it carefully before giving me an answer."

"After all, I'm more experienced than you are, so let me give you an in-depth analysis of the advantages of liking me and the disadvantages of not liking me."

Shao Lili finally couldn't help herself. She let out a pitiful wail, "Ning Wan, wake up!!!”

But alas, Fu Zheng soon shot her a look, and her mouth clamped shut as if she were a mouse that had just spotted a cat. Only the despair covering her face became more and more intense, as if she were at the scene of some tragedy.

"Okay," Fu Zheng said, quite sensibly, "I would love to hear your analysis."

By this time, Ning Wan was no longer able to think about why exactly Shao Lili was in despair. Bewitched by Fu Zheng's gentle eyes,  her reason abandoned her and she very shamelessly analyzed--

"First of all, it's true that you are handsome, but I'm also very beautiful, so we match very well appearance-wise. You are not rich, and I'm  poor as well, so there is no gap between us materially. Career-wise... I'm now nearly in a senior partner's team, while you're still an intern, so there's indeed a gap between us, but I don't mind that you earn less than me. " Ning Wan paused, looked at Fu Zheng, and finally summoned the courage to say seriously, "It doesn't matter. I can provide for you."

The smile on Fu Zheng's face gradually deepened. "That sounds like a very reasonable analysis. Is there anything else you'd like to add?"

Ning Wan felt encouraged. She thought for a moment and added, "If you follow after me, I will definitely teach you everything I learn from the senior partner. Also, I do actually have some additional skills in the matters of taking advantage and avoiding blame, and it's not impossible for me to teach them to you. But to be honest, passing my unique hidden skills on to you doesn't come without a cost. You must be aware that in the past, one would only pass one's martial art secrets down to their own people, so in summary; I advise you to like me as soon as possible..."

The stronger Fu Zheng's smile, the more Shao Lili wanted to die. By the time Ning Wan finished her last sentence, she looked as if she was about to keel over on the spot. It appeared that she would have trouble breathing in the very near future.

The wheels in Ning Wan's drunken brain were spinning dizzily. What was wrong with Shao Lili? Her face was so white, and her body was trembling like a leaf...

Just as she was about to inquire after Shao Lili's health, Fu Zheng made the first move. Eyeing Shao Lili, he seemingly issued an eviction order to an unwanted guest. "Shao Lili, don't you have something to do?"

"Huh? Ah! Yes! Yes! I still have some work to do, I'm going to go work overtime immediately! You two carry on!"

Despite her pale face and shaking legs, Shao Lili's actions were surprisingly nimble. The moment the words came out of Fu Zheng's mouth, she fled right then and there.

Before fleeing, it seemed as though she wanted to say something to Ning Wan, but when Fu Zheng looked back at her lightly once more, Shao Lili seemed to shrink away from saying any more. She gave Ning Wan a "I can only help you this far!" look, then gave up  trying to salvage the situation and ran away with her tail tucked between her legs.

?

Wasn't she the one to cheer me on earlier?

Did I say something wrong? Ning Wan wondered. I don't think so, though?

Once Shao Lili was gone, she and Fu Zheng were left alone in the private room.

Fu Zheng had not yet answered her question.

She tilted her head up to regard Fu Zheng and solemnly decided to ask again. She cleared her throat--

"So, Fu Zheng. I like you. Will you go out with me?"

Even though Ning Wan's heart was obviously beating like a drum, Fu Zheng was still somehow very calm. Smiling slightly, he looked at her and asked, "Does this mean that you're trying to impose the workplace's unspoken rulesI've explained this before I think, but this is a metaphor like an actor's 'casting couch'. on me?"

“……”

Alcohol had completely paralyzed Ning Wan's sense of reason and shame. Her gaze was fixed on Fu Zheng's face and the only thought in her mind was 'I must have this man'. There was no room in it for the question of how she would later clean up this mess if she laid hands on him like this. She had obviously carefully analyzed how to phrase her confession earlier so as not to embarrass or pressure Fu Zheng, but a little wine had completely degraded her intelligence. She didn't even realize how tyrannical she sounded when urging someone else to like her.

Fu Zheng's words finally kicked Ning Wan's brain back into gear. She glanced away, a little embarrassed. "What do you mean, unspoken rules? I'm just boldly speaking my mind. If you don't agree, then forget it. I won't make things difficult for you."

"Anyhow, I've given you a clear confession. You haven't expressed your position, so I'll give you ten seconds to answer. If you don't say no, I'll take it as your consent." She began to count down, "Ten, nine, eight..."

At that moment Ning Wan completely threw caution to the wind. She prayed in her heart that Fu Zheng would acquiesce just like this. Let him not say anything, let him not do anything; just let him wait for her to count to ten, and then he would be hers.

But it didn't work out that way. When Ning Wan counted eight, Fu Zheng stepped toward her and took her by the hand, as if to stop her from counting.

Ning Wan subconsciously began to speed up the countdown. Obviously aware of her behaviour, Fu Zheng smiled helplessly and sped up his own actions. Briefly letting go of her hand, he cupped her face and leaned down. At the moment when Ning Wan hurriedly recited "five", still thinking she was so clever, he had already come close, and then before she could react, Fu Zheng kissed her.

In the speechless silence that followed, Ning Wan felt that not only had the wine gone to her head, but that her face was burning. There was something slightly moist touching her lips. Fu Zheng pried open her lips lightly and skillfully and kissed her, brief but thorough.

The split second Ning Wan was about to flee the battlefield, Fu Zheng finally withdrew. He regarded her with his beautiful black eyes--

"I think your advice is very reasonable."

"I accept your unspoken rules."

"Everything you said was right."

Because they were standing so close, Ning Wan could feel his warm breath as he said those words. His voice was just a little hoarse, as if he were suppressing some emotion. Deep, sexy, and lingering, it seemed as though pheromones drifted from his voice alone.

He looked into Ning Wan's eyes and smiled, "I'll follow after you from now on. Remember to provide for me."
