Chapter 4: The Wizards I thought didn’t exist ②

He managed to find Jin-hee and Jin-hyeok again after following them for 2 minutes. 

The place those two were heading to was the public parking lot. 

It seemed they were travelling by car. 

Even though Tae-soo had a car of sorts, he didn’t have any thoughts of tailing them by car. It should never be found out that he was tailing them. 

Even following them until now, he made sure to not be caught by CCTV or a car’s black box. 

He avoided cameras but mostly he used the light to create a distortion so as not to get filmed by cameras. 

Of course, it was obvious. Distorting the light hides the body, however, since it doesn’t really match the scenery it causes one to look severely out of place. There were even times when the light was shining. 

However, it didn’t matter. As long as his identity was covered. 

Even now, he intended to follow them in that way. 

The two people entered the car. It was a fairly expensive foreign car. 

The moment those two entered the car, Tae-soo climbed on top of the car roof and lay on his belly. 

After tailing them for a while if he decided it’s not worth it, he intended to leave. 

Those two would eventually come back to the café anyway. Because they had already tasted the coffee laced with mana. 

The effects of the coffee laced with mana on wizards were even more spectacular. 

The more mana one had, the tastier and more aromatic coffee the drinker could enjoy. Of course, there was a limit.

That’s why Tae-soo enjoys the coffee at his own café. If you haven’t drunk the coffee before you wouldn’t know, however once you drink it, drinking any other coffee would be difficult.

He carried out related research, those who had impressively high mana could even have a reaction that resulted in addiction. However, once the level of mana exceeded a fixed amount, one wouldn’t be swayed by its efficacy.  

Anyway, because the situation is like that, he decided not to obsess too much over tailing them. 

You have to draw the line like this in advance so that you don’t overdo it. 

The car soon took off. 

If the car went down a congested road, he planned to fall back and give up tailing them. Same for if they go to an area with a lot of people. 

However, luckily they headed down a relatively calm road. 

At this rate, he’d have no choice but to follow them all the way. 

While doing that, he paid attention to the sign points and it seemed like they had left Seoul and were heading to the north of Gyeonggi-doT/N Gyeonggi-do, one of South Korea’s provinces and home to Seoul, the capital of South Korea. 

Near a quiet road stood several quite well designed buildings. 

That was the car’s destination. 

At that point, Tae-soo got out of the car. Using magic, after he had comfortably and safely disembarked on the road, he hid himself near the building.

No matter how much you distort the light to hide yourself, considering the peculiar feeling of discomfort, it is best to not stand out. 

Jin-hee and Jin-hyeok entered the building. Looking at it from the bottom you could tell it was a 15-story building.

Wizards were probably in that building. Tae-soo slowly took a deep breath to calm his gradually rising nervousness.

He was still unable to detect low amounts of mana. So, in order to check how many more wizards were in that building, he would have to go into that building. 

‘If I knew it would be like this, should I have put more effort into sensing magic?’

After he had come to the assumption that he is the only wizard, he had stopped pouring magic into sensing magic. 

He would just learn any new things related to sensing if it happened to be in the new magic knowledge that came up. 

Compared to other magic, he didn’t research or look for other materials to reinforce the sensing magic. 

If he had steadily reinforced it, he would probably be able to at least identify those who had a certain level of mana.

Tae-soo shook off any regrets after thinking about it. 

Looking at those two people go into the building, Tae-soo, who had been contemplating on whether to go into that building or not, without realising turned his gaze to the side. 

His gaze landed on a small 5-story building. 

That small building kept grabbing his interest. 

With an expression of suspicion, Tae-soo slowly scanned the building. 

For it to grab the attention of a wizard, there must definitely be something about it. 

The place Tae-soo was hiding was behind a bench with a flower bed, trees and hanging wisteriaT/N Wisteria: a climbing shrub, with hanging clusters of fragrant flowers, typically pale bluish-lilac in color near the building. 

Still hiding, Tae-soo assessed the security situation. 

In the entrance of each building were about two CCTV cameras. There was also CCTV placed on the roof of the small building. There were about two facing in each direction. 

Not only that, even in the car park next to and in front of the building, there were iron pillars as thick as a person’s leg and at the top of those pillars were CCTV cameras. 

‘Isn’t this a bit extreme?’

All that surveillance focused back onto the small building. 

Going in and out of that building wouldn’t be easy, even for Tae-soo. 

‘Well, there’s nothing I can do if I get caught.’

Anyway, since he was using light distortion, they would never know his identity. 

Although, he would have to endure the slight discomfort of the existence of a wizard who can use light distortion magic being discovered. 

‘You never know, there may also be a wizard who can use it too.’

Light distortion is a magic that allows one to control the refraction of light using mana.  

Of course, it’s not easy. If the rate of refraction isn’t controlled very delicately, a shadow may form. 

The effort Tae-soo poured into growing this magic was substantial. 

Actually, the act itself of using this magic to assign the nearby rate of refraction wasn’t that hard. 

Of course, in order to hide the whole body, quite a lot of mana is required. It is such a mana consuming piece of magic that even Jin-hee and Jin-hyeok who just entered that building would not be able to attempt it at their level.

And, as much as it is a magic that uses light refraction, it is more effective in the evening than during the day. 

Tae-soo did not overestimate his abilities. In that way, he waited until it became night.

As he waited for the night, Tae-soo moved to a more hidden place and read the academic paper he had prepared. 

He had no intention of spending time dazing around. 

At some point the sun had set while he was reading a number of pages of the academic paper and getting inspired to create some magic techniques.

As the darkness fell, the street lamps turned on. 

The streetlamps followed the road and stood at wide intervals, with a few placed next to the parking lot or building entrances. 

So overall, it was quite dark. It was a secluded place with nothing special next to it so even if the building was a bit far, it was still dark. 

While contemplating if he should slowly start moving, a crowd of people came out of the building. 

Tae-soo’s eyes flashed. Over half of the people exiting the building were wizards. 

‘Out of 13 people around 7 were. Their level was the same.’

Jin-hee and Jin-hyeok were included among those 7 wizards.

They went into the small building that Tae-soo had been observing. 

After Tae-soo had once again gradually diminished the distortion magic, he silently moved. 

‘This is something a wizard wouldn’t do.’

If it were a real wizard, they wouldn’t act as impulsive as he was. In fact, until now, Tae-soo had never done anything without a perfect plan. 

However, this time was different. 

Tae-soo coldly analysed why he was doing this. 

‘It’s exciting.’ 

He has been really bored all this time. Magic research and development as a wizard has been fun but he had no choice but to be ready. 

Perhaps, the reason why he had searched for wizards was not to analyse their existence and prepare but rather could he have been wishing for a situation to naturally connect with them? 

On top of that, that small building was still on his mind. He was sure there was something inside that building, and he had a hunch that he had to check out whatever it was. 

Covering his whole body with light distortion, Tae-soo headed to the back of the building. 

There was only one entrance so he was feeling uneasy going in through there. 

The back of the building was dark. 

Using mana, Tae-soo unleashed another form of magic. 

Although it wasn’t easy to unleash another form of magic while maintaining the distortion, it wasn’t difficult for Tae-soo. 

Tae-soo could split his focus into sections. 

It was similar to those heroes usually seen in martial arts stories.

It of course used magic, however, at the end of research to do with brain waves he had made a slightly awkward theory and was skilfully using it. 

He could now split his thoughts into three parts. 

Simply, Tae-soo could use three forms of magic simultaneously. 

To use more than that, he would have to overcome his limit. 

Tae-soo drew a magic circle using the new mana strands he had picked and filled with apprehension , he unleashed the magic. 

WHOOSH!

Tae-soo’s body rose up in the air. 

At quite a fast speed, he had gone up to the roof of the 5-story building in one fell swoop. 

The person watching the CCTV would not have been able to catch this easily. 

Because distortion at night is quite covert. 

There was nothing on the roof aside from the CCTV on the edge of the roof and the ones outside the building. 

Usually people will come up to the roof to smoke and stuff but there was no such thing here. 

Or they never really used the building in the first place. 

Tae-soo headed towards the roof door and turned the handle. He didn’t forget to wear gloves to prevent leaving fingerprints. 

Even though the door was locked, this kind of thing was easy to open. 

Tae-soo’s mana flowed into the keyhole and solidified. 

Click. 

The door naturally opened as if opened with a key. 

Tea-soo entered the building. 

Dark stairs appeared. He followed the stairs and went downwards. 

Usually, he would activate his sensing magic and turn the lights on but because of the distortion magic he couldn’t operate the sensing magic properly. 

Tae-soo descended one floor and stood at the entrance to the 5th floor. He then placed his ear to the door to hear inside. 

Wizards are far more physically gifted than regular people. Obviously because they have magic. 

No matter how much mana is collected in the core, it was obvious for the body to get stronger due to frequent magic stimulation. 

It wasn’t just muscle strength; it was more equivalent to all the senses being strengthened. 

It was also possible for one’s senses to intensify by slightly using magic. 

‘I think I hear something.’ 

Various people were conversing here and there. The voices were mixed and noisy. 

However, the noise echoed slightly. As if they were scattered and chattering here and there in a big hall. 

Tae-soo roughly estimated the inside structure. It was highly likely that it had an open centre.

So, Tae-soo opened the door slightly and, lowering his body, slipped inside. 

Sure enough, the inner part of the building was hollow. 

The height of each floor was just about the width of a hallway, with a bannister installed to prevent falling. 

On each floor were multiple groups of people having conversations while looking downwards.   

Lowering his body as low as he could, Tae-soo looked downwards. 

‘What’s that?’

His eyes widened as he checked below. 

On the ground floor was an oval shaped portal exuding a dim blue light. 

At the moment he saw that, his intuition violently shook his mind. That portal was precisely why he had been so drawn here.
