Chapter 7: An Unexpected Request ②

Dae-hyeop Eom picked up the bag that had dropped to the floor. While doing that, he contemplated what he should do to salvage the situation. 

They are bastards who will die anyway so there’s no reason to give them money. 

Finding the bodies later and retrieving the money was work too. He wanted to remove that tedious process. 

“There’s not that much money in here. So…….”

Dae-hyeop Eom could not finish his words this time either. That’s because the bottom of the bag burst, letting all the contents inside fall out.  

The thing that had been in the bag was not paper money but a thin gold card. It wasn’t simple gold either, it was a golden card with something special on it. 

When not one or two but countless bills fell to the floor, the gold light disturbed the eyes.

Bret, who had seen it, opened his eyes wide and shouted. 

“It’s a golden cheque!”

Bret quickly stretched his hands and picked up one bill. Bret attempted to block him but Bret was too quick. 

Having confirmed the golden cheque book, Bret’s eyes stirred.  

“10 million gel?”

It was a check that had 10 million gel per bill. There were countless bills that could pay all the people here and still have some left over. 

Like a knife, the gazes of the four people pressured Dae-hyeop Eom. 

Dae-hyeok Eom, who had picked up and organised the golden cheque book with a sour expression, handed out one bill to each person. 

Like that, even after giving everyone a bill, there was still more than enough left. 

Looking at that, Tae-soo smirked. 

“It seems the charge fee is about 50%. Aren’t you being too much?”

Anyone could tell that the bag was the commission fee received from Valeon guild.  Since he had deducted the charge fee and handed it over, it meant the remaining money was the commission fee. 

Dae-hyeop Eom suddenly shouted. 

“Don’t be ridiculous! This is all the money I have saved up all this time! The money I receive for just bringing one of you is 5%!”

Bret’s expression stiffened hard.

“I don’t like it. Cutting down the money wasn’t enough; it seems he had no intention of giving us the money at all.”

“That’s not true!”
Even though Bret was calm, he looked at Dae-hyeop Eom with cold eyes and spoke. 

“Pay each of us 2.5 million extra each. Before I go to the Valeon guild myself and find out.”

2.5 million extra would practically mean that they’d taken 40% from the commission fee, but they all decided to put up with it was their first time doing this kind of work. 

Dae-hyeop Eom broke out in a cold sweat. And displeased, he stared at Tae-soo with an annoyed expression. 

‘Because of that bastard, what is all this?’

They’re all dead anyway. Because the rate of survival for bait is 3%.

If 100 people were invested 3 would survive, so out of 50 maybe 1, if they do well 2 would survive. 

Out of those two, the chances of it being someone here is quite slim. 

‘Once this job is over, I’ll have to run around I guess.’

Anyway, if I think of it as money I will recover, there’s no reason why I can’t give them one more bill. However, it’ll only be tiring.  

“Fine, fine. I’ll give it to you so don’t stare at me like that. Ha, seriously, this is really a bad look on Dae-hyeok Eom.”

While grumbling like that, he pulled out another bill and handed it to Bret. 

“Divide it amongst yourselves later.”

After that, Tae-soo paid no mind to Dae-hyeop Eom or the rest of the party and was absorbed in observing the check. 

The check had been handled magically. 

It had been assigned a serial number specially printed with magic. It was to prevent forgery. 

There were probably devices that could detect the serial number and search for that number in a database. 

It was only that it was handled with magic but that outside of that, there were various methods applied to do with forgery prevention and security. Of course, he couldn’t quite analyse it in detail. 

‘Come to think of it, the amount was quite huge, it wouldn’t be easy to just use the bill.’

 It would be good to split the bill but it would probably be bulky so storing it must have been tricky. 

‘I’ll have to quickly overcome my limits.’

If he overcame his limits this time, it seemed he would gain some knowledge about space.

This was the result of practical and logical guesses based on the magical memories that had been steadily created.

And if he acquired magic related to spaces, he would without a doubt be able to store objects safely and create subspacesT/N Subspace: a space created in an alternate dimension with infinite properties.  

After he had analysed the gold cheque, Tae-soo placed it in his inner pocket. 

And then he placed some magic on his inner pocket to strengthen it so that it wouldn’t be torn easily and even assigned magic that would make it so that people would not be able to easily get their hands in there. 

The atmosphere in the van was quite heavy. 

There had just been that incident earlier so there was no way the atmosphere would be good. 

In particular, Dae-hyeop Um, who suffered because of Tae-soo, and was forced to endure the anger and irritation that was boiling inside, was contemplating how to get back at Tae-soo.

During that time, the van had arrived at its destination. 

As soon as the car stopped, Bret opened the door first and exited the vehicle. The remaining people quickly followed Bret. 

Dae-hyeop Eom waited until Tae-soo finally exited the car to get off. 

Tae-soo looked around his surroundings as soon as he got out of the car. 

It was a wide-open space that was not even paved.

Vans were parked here and there, and from the cars, people with mana were pouring out. 

The level of everyone was about the same. They were all about the same as Tae-soo and the guys he had come with. It was even hard to find someone at the same level as Bret. 

Looking at each of them one by one, Tae-soo inquisitively tilted his head slightly. 

‘It’s really hard to find someone with a core here. On top of that, Why are there so many ugly guys here even though they are wizards? Is it because the characteristics of mana are different?”

He was a little unfamiliar with the scene he was looking at right now because he had experienced what changes occur to the body when one possesses mana.

However, it wasn’t something he couldn’t understand. He was certain the mana here was rough and violent. So, it seemed those who had mana here also generally appeared rough and violent. 

When he was observing the people that had gathered here, a person with an impressive amount of mana appeared and stood in the open area. 

If you ask how much, it was about the same amount as the mana Tae-soo was circulating. 

The level of mana he had was also quite high. As expected, it was spread all over the body, and the purity of the mana was high.

It just simply meant that they used their own methods to purify mana without simply collecting it.

That must have been why unlike the others, his appearance was not rough or violent. Rather, he appeared close to normal. 

Tae-soo assumed that this person was from the Valeon guild. 

Sure enough, as soon as that man arrived in the centre of the open area, the brokers urged the bait to quickly go and stand in front of him. 

Tae-soo also went in front of that man. 

At that moment, a different type of mana swept through the open space at once.

Tae-soo was the only one who felt that. 

The man from Valeon guild nodded. 

“The level is okay.”

This amount of bait was enough. He had the thought that could possibly not only play the role of bait but could also possibly gain something. 

He looked at the crowd and slightly showed some force. 

Everyone looked at him with serious expressions. They felt a wall that they couldn’t dare compare to. You might end up kicking the bucket if you sloppily messed around. 

“I am Odis from the Valeo guild. The job you guys have to do is easy. All you have to do is attack the Shedim bastard’s base and shut them up.”

Just then, someone raised their hand and spoke. 

“What should we do if there is black magic there? It seems a bit much for us alone to fight black magic.”

Odis shook his head firmly.

“There is no black magic there. The Shedim may be stupid but there’s no way they would keep the black magic in their base. If the city government inspectors rushed in, it would be the end of that organisation.”

The man who had asked the question nodded as if in agreement. 

“The Shedim guild is currently split into two groups. The group that is in the base, and the group that is managing the black magic.”

Odis, who had spoken till then, strengthened his gaze and continued.

“We the Valeon guild will be in charge of the black magic side. You guys will take charge of the base. It will most definitely be dangerous. However, we feel we have paid the price enough to put up with that danger. So do what you’ve been paid to do. That is all.”

Odis spoke only until then and looked at the brokers. 

Doing that, the brokers began to move. 

“Okay, let’s get going. We have to earnestly start our job.”

“You heard what he said right? Let’s go do our worth!”

The brokers who seemed to have planned in advance led the bait and headed somewhere. 

Tae-soo, mixed in and moving with the rest, stared slightly at Odis. 

Odis was calmly looking in this direction. However, his eyes were quite intense. 

‘I don’t quite like those eyes.’

Tae-soo grumbled internally as he walked.

Several men approached Odis. They were guild members of the Valeon guild. 

Among them, the guild vice-captain Crust was also present. 

“Have they all been sent?”

Odis nodded at Crust’s question. 

“They looked quite useful. They will probably be able to draw attention.”

Crust laughed cunningly. 

“Keke. We have to let them know our cunning. Shedim isn’t that easy of a guild, but we’ll be able to wipe them out without even lifting a finger I mean.”

“The plan hasn’t officially started; you never know there might be some variables. It would be troublesome if we’re careless.”

“Don’t worry. We prepared thoroughly. We left the black magic side to us and the people we have deals with. Those guys are really good.”

“The timing is important.”

“I know, I know. We’re going in when the black magic side loses some people.”

“And we shouldn’t go in immediately……..”

“I said I know. They said to leave some time before going in. Those guys are really smart. Just leave it to them, they’ll handle it well.”

“That may be true but…….”

“You worry too much. Just let it sort itself out, and all we need to do is take what we need to take and clean up afterwards.”

“I understand.”

Odis agreed and withdrew in the meantime. However, he was somehow anxious. No matter how you think about it, it was a plan that couldn’t go wrong. 

Crust placed his arm on Odis’ shoulder.

“I’m telling you, don’t worry. It will all be fine. Even if an issue occurs, we can just deal with it appropriately. Right?”

“That’s right.”

Otis nodded his head heavily. 

Nothing would change from worrying anyway. It was much better to spend that time preparing for an uncertain situation. 

“Right, should we slowly head out?”

One headed towards the Shedim base, the other headed towards the place the Shedim was storing the black magic.

The place the brokers had guided them to was a dark and dingy place. 

Low buildings stood here and there and in between them were shabby warehouses and open areas. 

There weren’t any humans either, and an uncomfortable somewhat fishy bloody smell and the smell of urine were foggily spread everywhere. 

The guys that had come as bait were all grossed out. There were plenty of people among those who had never been to the outskirts till now. 

“Do you see that 5-story building over there? That’s our goal”

The building the broker had pointed to was the only one with lights on this street. 

“A place that doesn’t even have street lamps.”

Dae-hyeop Eom smirked at someone’s grumblings. 

“Streetlamps? You must be joking.”

The hardest thing to see here in the outskirts was streetlamps. 

If the city government had money to build street lights here in the outskirts, they would rather plant another plant in the central area.

“Right, should we start? It’s really nothing. You just go in there and break and kill everyone.”

The bait flinched at the word kill. However, on top of coming all the way here, they had no way of escaping. Because they needed money.

The brokers pushed the backs of the bait they had brought. 

As they did that, a few people came forward, soon, In a mysterious state of half resignation and half excitement they walked forward. 

Once a few people moved, the rest followed in unison.

Seeing that, the brokers silently moved backwards. The work they had to do was up to here. Now, all they had to do was return to their original location. 

However, Dae-hyeop Eom couldn’t do that. He hid somewhere nearby and waited for the fight to be over. 

“Damn it. What kind of situation is this.”

A grumbling Dae-hyeop Eom looked at the bait that was heading towards the Shedim base. They looked like moths looking for a place to die.
