“T-The Grand Wall! She just cleared it like it was nothing!”

“M-Monster! Stay back!”

Such cries and many other similar ones punctured the air, echoing away into the wind as I smashed through the Briach clan’s territory with ease, overpowering the troops that they’d posted at the front gate.

At this point, they weren’t even a challenge, and even the wall that they’d placed so much faith in was nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Although the gargantuan wall had certainly looked impressive, no matter how great a barrier was, it would have no chance of stopping me.

I had already resolved to see this task through once and for all.

“There’s no need for us to fight,” I declared as I magnified my voice using magic so that it would carry far and wide throughout the Briach clan’s territory. The words I spoke were certainly kind. In any other context, they could have even been considered a peace offering.

Right now, they were nothing more than a way of proclaiming that their defeat was inevitable.

To be completely honest, I hated this sort of thing. Conquest by force was an oppressor’s job. Something that the people back on Earth would’ve relished had any of them been in the position to lord over others with complete impunity.

Even now, I was starting to feel the effects of having once been part of that dismal society as a rush of pleasure and superiority flooded my body. It was only thanks to my iron will that I managed to push it back.

I won’t become like those fucks. Hell no. Not me.

I continued repeating that mantra in my head as I made my way toward the largest and grandest building in the walled city, knocking aside anyone who still dared to stand in my way.

It wouldn’t be long until I was finished with all of this unpleasant bullshit, so I simply needed to stick it out. Priya wasn’t exactly wrong in that I could’ve attempted negotiations first, but that would’ve cost time.

When all the eastern tribes respected strength above all else, it was obvious that I’d choose this bloody path instead of the pacifist’s route. I’d accumulate enemies doing this. I knew that much.

But even if I was universally hated by the entire world at the end of all this, I’d be fine with it as long as I protected this world from that farce of a God.

I’d be fine with it as long as I protected my friends.

It was funny, really. I’d only learned the true meaning of that word mere months ago, but here I was holding them dear. It wasn’t as if any of them were perfect either. Lucrezia could be a bitch sometimes, and Antenora could be twice as bitchy.

Aurelia had a raging fetish for forcing people to eat her hellish kitchen concoctions, and Priya... Well, I suppose Priya was just normal.

At last, I arrived at the front gates of what I assumed was the Briach clan’s palace. The time for such reminiscence was over.

The doors swung open silently as I pushed against them. There was no need for a loud entrance. My presence alone was already more than enough.

Across from me stood a man of towering height, his gilded armor reflecting the sunlight that streamed through the windows lining the side of the room. In his hands was a massive greatsword that was easily twice my size.

It was clear that he had already expected this outcome.

Good. At least it’ll make this faster.

“I am King Eurace Briach, ruler of the Briach clan. I assume you are here to make a claim to the throne?”

His words shook the very air around us, as if he were bending nature itself to his will merely through the act of speaking. Such authority reminded me of King Borea, and it was clear that the Briach clan was one of the most powerful clans in the eastern tribes from that alone.

“I have no desire for the throne, King Briach. What I desire is the unification of all the eastern tribes.”

“To what end?”

“To save this world from a fate worse than death.”

King Eurace narrowed his eyes, trying to ascertain the sincerity in my words. He wouldn’t have much trouble doing that. Right now, the only thing I cared about was unifying the eastern tribes and making sure that I’d be able to crush God’s plans into dust.

There was a long period of silence before the King of the Briach clan hefted his enormous weapon to his shoulder and adopted a stance that was created for nothing more than violence.

“Very well. But the Briach clan will not follow the weak. Show me your resolve, child of humanity!”

Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t stop the grin that slowly spread across my face. As much as I hated it, I couldn’t hide from it anymore.

I had been hoping for this.

Had King Eurace actually accepted my words without any further questioning and then proceeded to follow me, I would have been sorely disappointed.

The rush of adrenaline in the middle of combat and the feeling of superiority when you stood above those who were once said to be the strongest of their clan. These were feelings that I had become addicted to.

I knew I was in danger of becoming like those that I hated, but I just couldn’t help it.

It’s fine. As long as I don’t let these feelings consume me, it’ll work out! That’s right! I won’t become like those fucks!

I let out a roar as I charged directly at the king’s position, completely eschewing any defensive advantages I might’ve had before. After all, there was no need for me to defend.

Attacking was the privilege of the strong.

King Eurace’s eyes widened upon my approach. His sword swung downward to meet my fist, and a thunderous sound that reached high above the heavens was birthed.
