3 days since the last chapter…

Succubus Homeland, Rex and Kira’s house

A lot of people think that they are the best judge of what is going on inside of their bodies, these people could easily discover things like cancer, dementia, and any other mental or physical issue. Imagine waking up and suddenly finding you have a third arm or a second tongue. Even an idiot would be able to discover that, and currently, Rex felt like he had a new limb that he could form at any time. It was such a jarring experience that it had caused him to yell out in fright and fall out of the bed groggily when he first woke up.

Rex was sitting on the floor, he had no idea what time it was, he could only see that it was midday due to the position of the sun through the window. His whole body felt stiff as he sluggishly crawled to his feet, his breathing was rough and he was covered in sweat. Reaching down shakily he began to slowly peel the sweatshirt off of his body, he was having problems due to the mittens he was wearing. Suddenly he realized that his entire body was wrapped in multiple layers of thick clothing.

“What the hell happened to me? What is going on?!” Rex mumbled in fright.

He was so hot, he was covered in sweat, and he could feel this sensation below his skin like a liquid that he could control. Finally, after several seconds of struggle, he managed to crawl his way forward, this pulled down the several layers of sweatpants he was wearing. Feeling a cool breeze make its way over his exposed rear felt heavenly to him. He kept trying to get up but he was having problems moving his arms correctly.

How many sweatshirts am I wearing?! How many clothes did they cram me in?! I am sweating so much right now!

Rex could suddenly understand the pain that Borscht must feel whenever he would forget to bring him mana on time. Just as Rex felt himself get to his feet his door was suddenly pushed open, and he could see a horned woman standing in the doorframe. This made Rex smile as he struggled to his feet, his pants around his ankles. Then that smile disappeared as he got a good look at the female's features, it was a succubus that was pretending to be a dark elf.

“Kera, how unexpected! Can you please take this sweater off of me? I can’t move my arms.” Rex said, trying to sound nonchalant.

Crash!

Rex could see her eyes were open wide in shock as they were glued to his midsection, with all of the sweaters coating his arms he was unable to reach down and pull up the several layers of pants he was wearing. He could feel himself taking damage the longer this went on, but she was just staring at him. Then tears began to slowly flow from her eyes as her shoulders began to shake, she suddenly let out a high-pitched yell and covered her face. This made Rex feel a sense of horror as he struggled to try to pull up the several layers of pants he was wearing, but he just couldn’t bend properly.

Suddenly Rex saw her raise her hands over her face and flee from the bedroom, on the floor was a tray with food and water on it. It had been spilled all over the floor, it was becoming clear to him that she had been in charge of checking upon him. He couldn’t ask her now that she had fled from the room, he could only fight with getting his clothes off. After getting on the ground with his arms over his head, he was able to use his legs to pull his upper body out of the layers of sweatshirts he was wearing.

Standing in the center of the room he shared with Kira, he sighed deeply as he stood there and let the cool air touch his sweaty skin. Looking down at the floor, he could see that there were almost 10 layers of sweaters and sweatpants that he had been shoved inside of. Finally feeling some semblance of normality he made his way to the closet and began to pull clothes out. Reaching down and feeling how sticky his skin felt, he decided to take a bath before he did anything further.

Meanwhile…

Beastmen Plains, A settlement belonging to the Dingomen

“Hey, did you enjoy that fox woman that the captain was letting the men take turns with?” A dingoman asked the one standing next to him.

They both stood on a wooden wall that was made in a very rough method, as most metal tools and weapons came from the elves, or from the small number of craftsmen that the beastmen had. They also did not use any weapons, as they were both incredibly well-built individuals. Armor was unnecessary to cover their large and toned mus-

Boom! Splat!

The dingoman, who resembled a dogman, had his head perforated and a trail of brails followed behind the shiny projectile. The dingoman who was left on the wall breathed out in horror, before sucking in a lungful of air. Before he could carry out his duty and announce that they were being attacked, a second shot rang out in the forest.

Boom!

The dingoman reached down, as the air was ejected from the hole in his chest that destroyed his heart and lung. He was alive long enough to realize it was all over for him, then he fell over off the wall into the mud that was packed around it. This wall stood near a forest that had been cleared for a mile(~1.6KM) out from the small town that is protected. Off in the trees, a glint could be seen coming from the scope that was attached to the rifle that had just fired.

Under one of these trees was a blanket covered in artificial moss and leaves, out of the front a blackened barrel slid out with a scope that had a wrap around the outside. A gray furred hand reached forward and racked the bolt on the rifle, and slid another bullet into the chamber. She then leaned forward again and began to carefully target along the wall using the scope on her rifle.

“There are two more teams on the right side, roughly 2 and 4 on the clock.” The fox reported to her the other snipers on her left and right.

Boom!

“Target down!”

Boom!

Target down”

The leader of this small team also locked in on her target.

Boom!

The large caliber rifles sounded one after another as they reported their kills back and forth. These were all things that the succubi had taught them, but they still weren’t sure how to work with it yet. Proof of this could be seen with the fact that they were firing at targets and not telling each other which of the enemies they were aiming at. The succubi standing in the back were watching this with feelings of superiority as they marked on their clipboards the negative scores that the foxes were getting.

Lunas was watching from the side with a cold sweat running down her back, she was nervous as this was her first combat operation. She could see the succubi standing in the back, they were discussing with each other as they were grading the performance of the foxes who were hiding in the dense forest outside of the dingomen’s land. She took a few deep breaths to steady her nerves and looked towards the group of female foxes behind her.

Armed to the teeth would be the best way to describe the group of 200, some held the Monsterfaust, some held shotguns that were similar to the mousemens, but most of them held the long rifles that were modified from the succubi’s old rifles. These lacked the scopes but the foxes didn’t need them with their excellent eyesight. All of the Foxwomen in this group were wearing tight-fitting tops, with their weapons slung over their backs and short pants that acted like shorts.

They were all against the ground, it was covered in dried leaves and needles from the forest around them. On their backs were cloaks that were designed to blend into the environment similar to what the snipers were wearing. They did not wear the trench coats that the mousemen used as they weren’t dealing with arrow fire. Looking further up the hill she got a signal from the sniper group that was further up the mountain using a mirror to shine a light down. She took a deep breath as she steadied her nerves, the dingomen inside of the walls were panicking after the people on the walls who were killed.

“Take the city!” She announced loudly.

They did not issue a battle cry, as this was supposed to be a surprise attack, instead, they all moved as a large group, this was to protect the small group in the center who were carrying the Monsterfausts.  Beastmen walls were much different than the walls that humans used, they had many openings that weren’t blocked, and instead, they were designed to split a large group into smaller ones. Most walls were built horizontally by piling up logs, it was a lot more work than humans were generally willing to do, but the beastmen all possessed much more strength on average. These logs did not have their branches stripped, instead rodent beastmen would use their teeth to make the tunnels through the solid wood.

“Fire!” The group of 6 who fell to the back of the pack all lifted the large metal tubes off their backs and fired towards the walls.

6 trails of fire were sent streaking through the air as they soon reached their target. The rockets were comically large with a ball-shaped rocket head, this was due to the large amount of C4 contained in each rocket head. When these rockets reached the wall after a few seconds of travel and flying over the group of foxes, they soon made contact.

BOOOOOOM!

The succubi in the back who were grading this exercise all started nodding and were very pleased by their use of the monsterfaust, they all added extra points for the use of explosives. A large grin appeared on several of the succubi’s faces as they continued to watch Lunas charge through the wreckage of the wall. Almost none of the wood was left after the C4 had burned a hole straight through it, this made a large hole where the logs were toppled over and it was wide enough for a large group of beastmen to pass through.

“Take the city! Find our pack mates!” She yelled out her orders.

The gunfire began to ring out the moment the foxwomen breached the walls, they got into groups of 10 and began to carefully move from building to building. Most of the beastmen houses were dome-shaped and made from clay without the sharp edges that the old High elves favored. This made it easier for the foxes to clear with shotguns and rifles. The goal was to discover any fox beastmen and take them back.

Lunas was leading the charge, they were heading straight for the center of the town, on her back was a shotgun and at her side was one of the large-caliber revolvers. At the center was a large structure with two floors, this was where the leader of the pack would be. The fox snipers were on the hill covering their movement since the wall was no longer in their way. They also had two teams to act as wings to cover their sides.

Boom! Boom!

“Stay towards the middle of the street!” lunas called to the teams that were moving down the large road.

Most beastmen did not use straight roads, they tended to wind through their settlements with much less planning than the elves. This meant that the Foxes couldn’t just charge straight towards the city center. They had to move slowly, killing one dingoman at a time as they moved forward. With the wall gone they had already stripped the main defense from this small settlement of dingomen.

“Don’t spread too far, take it slowly!” Lunas recalled, as she fired two more rounds and put down two more dingomen.

Empty shells and hulls were being ejected everywhere, as the Foxes made their way around and through the buildings. Mousemen, beavermen, foxmen, and various other races were being pulled out of these houses one after another. Dead bodies of dingomen were being pulled out to be burned one after another, soon a pile was being formed. Sadly for the foxes, they had lost several sisters that didn’t listen and got too far ahead, 15 in total.

While the foxes had much more superior firepower they were still weaker physically and weren’t able to put a fight up close. For every fox who died, hundreds of dingomen died to create that single body. Unlike the mousemen who were prepared for the elves specifically, Rex hadn’t had any idea what the foxes would be up against. The succubus training was also only good in wide-open places, the succubi in the back were also taking note of this to send to Kira.

Locating the large building in the center after fighting for over an hour, they began to surround the doors and windows, pointing their weapons into the building. Lunas and a group of foxes she trained, soon made it to the main door and kicked it open. She didn’t need to look for very long to figure out what happened.

“Shit, they had tunnels outside! Fucking canines!” She said savagely as she stomped on the ground.

Just like a dog will bury its favorite bones, a canine will usually dig short tunnels and trenches, these were their most common features. Lunas hadn’t had time to check any of these houses, as she was in charge of leading the main push. She had already gotten reports that some of the beastmen had fled, and she had hoped the leader would not do the same. The worst-case scenario was when the leaders of the two packs fought each other as if one of them got away after a grudge was formed.

“We have not seen the last of the dingomen.” Lunas said before sighing explosively.

“We have sent the snipers to hunt down any survivors, they might get lucky!” A cheerful fox with flowers in the fur on her head said.

The succubi could not act as carelessly as they had, the closer they got to the falcon king, the more careful the succubi were ordered to behave. A couple of their sisters had already suffered major injuries from the flying beastmen, their time would only come when it was time to take this enemy out. This was mainly since the succubi never acted alone, and they could go to the ground and kill the faster falcon beastmen using their guns. The succubi charm was also able to show its full power against an enemy that did not have any kind of countermeasure against it.

“Well done, we will send the information to Mistress Kira in regards to your performance.” One of the succubi said. “We realize we will need to start training in ways to attack buildings.”

They didn’t have any premade structures to act as buildings for their training, they were realizing that this would be a problem for them. One of the reasons they came was to look for any issues that could affect the succubi since the two fought similarly on the ground. These reports would all go to Kira who was in charge of the succubi’s training program. While Kira would certainly read them over, the way that she most preferred to solve them was by asking Rex while he was massaging her back.

“We have a final count on all of our people who are still alive…” A solemn female fox reported.

“What is it?” Lunas asked as she looked down the hole in the dirt floor, she could tell from the smell that the building was empty.

“39 out of the 100 who were taken have survived.” She said.

This number caused Lunas to clench her hand tightly, she thought about her sister who was turned into a coat by the elves. She then breathed out softly in sorrow when she realized she had at least managed to save some of her people who were taken. As one of the weakest predator races, the foxes were often just drafted into whatever pack needed to fill their numbers if they were run by a group of stronger beastmen.

“This is only the first group of beastmen who have taken from the foxes over the years.” Lunas said angrily. “We will hit all of them along the way, and we will get our fellow people back!”

Lunas was soon led to her tent that was set up on the outside of the city, running around and setting up her furniture and maps were the various “cleaning men” who were helping the women. The sniper team was out hunting any fleeing Dingomen who had escaped using tunnels, the shocking thing to Lunas was just how many of the Dingomen had prepared these escape routes. She realized that they had the dual purpose of allowing the Dingomen to ambush whoever was attacking their walls.

Most of the canine beastmen all liked to employ strategies like this, they would draw their enemy to the walls and hit them from all sides using their walls to pinch the enemy. This is why the fox beastmen made it a point to breach the walls as quickly as possible, they had much fewer numbers of fighters than the Dingomen did.

“Queen Lunas, we have counted over 1200 dead dingomen.” A fox beastmen came forward and announced.

“So 800 escaped from here, that isn’t very good. They must have planned to attack us from the rear but by the time they made it outside of the tunnels we were already taking the city.” Lunas reasoned. “We can only hope that the sniper team can reduce their numbers.”

Meanwhile…

Succubus Homeland, The lift

Rex was currently quite surprised as he felt the lift carrying him to the top of the lift shaft. Calling it an elevator would be false as this lift was designed to lift 20-30 tons(18-27MT) of freight. It had only been completed for a single day using the parts and spare engine that Rex had designed. There was just one issue he was facing as he rode the lift quickly to the top of the mountain from the Dwarven undercity.

“Who was the one who completed it?”Rex muttered.

Rex looked up and saw the various thick steel cables that were working to hoist the giant lift using a series of rollers and a counterweight attached to the engine. Water was still running down his face from his wet hair, and he was holding a bag with his dirty clothes. In his other hand was a card that had been punched out since he had visited the bathhouse, after 10 uses he would be entered into a lottery with a chance at a prize. They planned to compete with the succubus bathhouse that was also planned to be constructed.

“The first ship launched 2 days ago, someone installed the engine while I was asleep.” He muttered further.

He was carefully searching his memory of every single succubus and dwarf he knew that could be able to perform the installation. Rex was convinced that it was some hidden talent on the island that he had to have overlooked. The image of an ancient and wizened dwarf who had created countless masterpieces of blacksmithing appeared in his head. He was on the verge of breaking through to touching the foundation of machining when the engine had given him a push that allowed him to transcend.

“You!” Rex said when the lift stopped and he could see who was waiting on the other side of the grate.

“You woke up!” Borscht said with satisfaction.

Rex was stunned by what he was witnessing, the large white bear stood with both paws in the air. On top of his head was a red toolbox that was currently open, and on his large hands were two small feet belonging to the one who was doing maintenance on the elevator. Wearing boots and overalls that were covered in pockets to hold various tools, was a small succubus weaning a hairband. Shaya had a serious expression as she was carefully checking bolt tightness on the large metal frame that hoisted the lift.

This was an engine she had built from the ground up, of course, she was well aware of everything about it. After the first one, they made and tested, Shaya had already figured out in her mind how these simple machines worked. She had carefully installed the engines in the ship, then she had to figure out how to connect them to the controls. Once she figured out the throttle and everything else, she was able to reason it all out.

“You did incredibly, you know that.” Rex told the little girl who was finishing her work.

Shaya looked over at the blonde man shyly, when he was asleep it wasn’t Kira who was the most affected by it, it was Shaya. She had nothing to do when Rex was gone, and this made her start to wonder what would happen if he didn’t wake up. Most of the time she spent was working with Rex when Kira wasn’t around. As the one who had cut every single piece of the machines out of metal, she was the most familiar with them.

“Thank you, Shaya. I think I underestimated you, everyone has it seems.” Rex said proudly, as the little girl used her tail to place the wrench back in her toolbox and close it up.

He had already checked it before he went down the lift, but everything was done properly, he now realized how she had tightened the bolts that needed more power than she had. He could see that she would sometimes have Borscht help her tighten some bolts that were too much for her little body. When he saw the two of them, he was reminded of himself when he was younger, always riding the white bear everywhere.

I really have had two different childhoods. The one with my parents, and the one with my friends…

Rex could tell with how Shaya was packing up her tools that she was finished with her job, and he could see something showing that hadn’t previously. She was starting to show her own pride and she seemed to have gotten a bit of confidence. In the past facing two people directly like this might have caused her to feel uncomfortable.

“How did you end up getting roped along with the little girl?” He asked the bear.

Borscht looked at Rex and chuckled a few times, a smile formed on his large face. He looked up at the little girl who was signaling to put her down and dropped her into his large arms before setting her on the ground with her tools.

“She was crying, she was just staring at engine and crying.” Borscht said which caused the little girl to lower her head in embarrassment. “I ask if she wants to try, you always say never fear failure.”

Rex nodded with a smile on his face, he reached over and started stroking the hair of the little girl.

“And she figured it out, didn’t she?” He said proudly.

“She did!” Borscht told him.

“I am quite shocked, I don’t think I know of any toddler who managed to install a large engine inside of a ship, or even a lift. I knew she was gifted when she managed to cut it out, but I think she might have understood the functions when I explained it to her.” Rex said this more as a question as he tried to reason it out. “Engines aren’t as complex as they seem, it is just about understanding processes and how the various cycles work with the timing. The fact that she has already developed this type of thinking means that she will be incredibly gifted when it comes time to start building production equipment.”

“Should you be up? Kira was worried about you.” Shaya said in a tiny voice.

“I am fine, I managed to somehow develop some mana, it just isn’t much.” Rex told them proudly. “I think whatever that flower did to me, it increased my mana limit by a large amount. Previously, my mana was constantly being drained by my ability and left me at 0. Now though I can finally sense this weird thing you have all been telling me about.”

“That is good!” Borscht said. “But why you so pale?”

“I needed to test this, so the first thing I tried to do was to push it outside of my body.” Rex reported. “I succeeded, I then proceeded to pass out and nearly drown in my bath.”

Borscht paused and sucked in a panicked breath, but Rex wasn't done yet.

“Fortunately, Blue was with me and stopped me from drowning. I then got this crazy idea and tried to get my mana to mimic the way that Blue can create tentacles and grab things, or move around.” Rex told the bear seriously, there were black bags under his eyes.

“And?” Borscht asked.

“I failed, I realized that I am trying to run when I haven’t even figured out how to stand yet.” Rex told the bear. “I have only been awake for a few hours… I already want to sleep again… This is bullshit, I hate magic!”

Today had been nothing but ups and downs, he was shocked by what he had discovered that Shaya was capable of, but running out of mana caused feelings of depression in the user. He had a headache, and he also felt like he was hungover.

I need to get Dora to get me some books on magic…

“Where is Kira?” Rex asked.

“Her and Welch went on adventure!” the bear said.

“What?” Rex said, shocked.

“Bonding, friendship, she said something like that?” The bear said.

Rex paused as he heard this answer, something about it made no sense to him at all.

Adventure, what the hell are they doing?!
