Before Yernia was done, Cassian already finished a potato.

Yernia became impatient the moment he produced three peeled potatoes.

She suddenly got this strange desire to win since more potatoes needed to be peeled.

After sharpening her knife, she glanced at Cassian multiple times while peeling that she almost cut her hand.

“No one will be stealing your potato so just take your time with it.”

“…….”

Yernia felt disappointed.

Was she the only one who wanted to compete?

Was she alone in this bet?

“Give me your hand.”

“My hand?”

“Yes. It seemed frozen and it doesn’t look good.”

Cassian, who was peeling his potato while hugging Yernia, stared at her busy hand.

Her joints, her fingertips, and the back of her hand were red.

Cassian put his potato down, held Yernia’s hand, and blew out a breath, hoping it would give her warmth.

“My hands hurt.”

“The ice must be melting.”

Yernia looked at Cassian as if he was possessed while he did his best to warm her hands.

Both of them didn’t notice the soldiers’ astonished gazes around them.

They suppressed a silent scream at the unfamiliar appearance of their new superior.

***

Cassian was occupied preparing for the battle.

He went in and out of the barracks frequently to attend meetings.

It hadn’t been a day yet, but he had no idea how many times he had come and left.

Now, Cassian had left a bonfire at the barracks.

Due to the urgent situation, he was sorry that he couldn’t focus on Yernia’s needs at the moment but he was planning to make it up to her.

“Shall I try embroidery to amuse myself?”

Yernia was bored and alone in the barracks.

Husbands who go to war would receive an embroidered handkerchief from their wives to always remain safe.

Yernia took out a cloth and a ring box she brought there just in case.

After thinking about what to put, she engraved pink tulips on the handkerchief.

When the needle was finally threaded, she began her embroidery.

A little later, Cassian came back.

“Why aren’t you sleeping?”

It was already dark outside but instead of sleeping on the bed, Yernia had dozed off in her chair while embroidering.

She knew that knights were guarding outside the barracks.

However, she didn’t want to sleep due to the tension of the war she was experiencing for the first time.

“I’ve been waiting for you. I wonder when you’ll come.”

As he stood in front of her, Cassian grabbed her cheek with his cold hand.

Yernia looked up at him.

Cassian seemed exhausted.

“I’m sorry for making you feel alone.”

While he was busy dealing with trouble, he didn’t have the time to care about Yernia’s wellbeing.

“You’re busy so I understand.”

She wasn’t upset.

Wasn’t it strange that his absence didn’t disappoint her at all?

Cassian had to work and she couldn’t do anything to help.

However, she felt scared and awkward to be left alone in this strange place.

“I admit that I like it in my way. I can peek at you as you work.”

“Were you curious?”

“Yes. I thought you might get kicked out of the army all the time.”

“Haha. I’m a major.”

Who was powerful enough to kick out a major like him?

Then she shook her head, saying, “That doesn’t make sense.”

“Just leave it and come here. I want to warm myself up.”

Cassian walked to the bed.

Although she stayed close to the bonfire while dressed outdoors, her body still trembled due to the cold.

Yernia quit sewing and followed him to bed.

However, when Cassian lay on the bed,  she only had a small room to lie down.

Yernia squeezed into that side, pushing against Cassian’s chest.

“Go away, Major Ricardo!”

“There’s no space anymore, Colonel.”

“Then, make your body smaller.”

“That’s impossible.”

“Do it.”

“No.” Cassian insisted and didn’t move.

Yernia gently tickled his side.

“Will the soldiers trust and follow a stubborn Major like you?”

“My Colonel is making fun of me. You’re setting a good example.”

“Tease!”

“You must have enjoyed touching my body like this, Yernia.”

Realizing that she started this mischievous situation before she knew it, Yernia slapped Cassian on the chest.

How dare he accuse her as if she was the goddess of perverts?

“Major quit teasing me and move!”

“If I don’t stop, what would you do?”

“Are you negotiating with me? How shameless!”

“Give me a kiss.”

“Oh. You want me to guide you.”

Cassian clutched Yernia’s hand pushing against him and her position changed in the blink of an eye.

His lips were now close to her face.

“Please give me a kiss.”

“…….”

Before she knew it, Yernia was lying on top of Cassian’s body.

For a moment, she forgot to get herself together from the words hitting her pounding heart.

She couldn’t seem to lift herself as if she was hypnotized by his presence.

“I need your guidance.”
