Swallowing her saliva, Yernia cupped Cassian’s cheeks carefully.
Cassian closed his eyes when Yernia’s lips approached him.
As soon as she kissed him, Yernia’s ears felt like they were about to explode from her loud heartbeat.
Maybe because she was lying on top of Cassian’s body, it felt different from usual.
She could also feel his heart beating out of his chest.
Cassian opened his mouth and slowly devoured Yernia’s lips, making her toes curl.
A warm breath came into her mouth.
The stimulating fingers caressing her earlobes made her moans mingle into Cassian’s mouth.
After that deep kiss, she withdrew.
The transparent thread stretching through their moist lips finally snapped.
“When I’m free——”
It was more embarrassing and awkward since the environment was unfamiliar or maybe because the atmosphere was different from usual.
Perhaps, it was one of the times when Cassian wasn’t being rough when it came to kissing.
Yernia rolled her eyes and looked at Cassian’s nose.
“——let’s go to the cliff. The view there is magnificent.”
“Is this your first time here?”
“I’ve been here but I’ve never really looked around. I always thought about returning home quickly because of a certain someone.”
“Who?”
“You.” He replied bluntly.
Yernia was speechless.
“Me? Why?”
“I’m afraid you’ll forget me. I don’t like it when you feel awkward around me.”
Yernia tried to process every word coming out of his mouth.
His recent confession caused her to examine her reactions carefully but she often dismissed her emotions as too sensitive.
However, this felt different.
Was this still a simple friendship if Cassian said he would always return immediately after work so that they wouldn’t feel awkward with each other?
“Why do you want to see the cliff with me? Did you miss me?” Yernia asked breathlessly as if she ran a mile.
“No. I just want to show you.”
“…….”
“You’re having a hard time right now because you married me. I’m sorry that you have to be here.”
Was their relationship just friendship?
Was that possible?
Yernia’s mind was making this too complicated and she hated herself for thinking like this.
She thought it would be the other way around.
If she left Cassian alone on a battlefield that she had never been to in her entire life, she would choose to be here for him.
She would do it regardless of her impure heart.
Cassian was bothered and apologetic, so he could have wanted to visit the cliff and show her around to lift her mood.
She didn’t want to misunderstand his intentions but she thought Cassian liked her enough to invite her on a date.
Why was he being nice to her and wanting to kiss her then?

Perhaps, he strictly thought of it as guidance and it was just something he could do with a friend.
“Yes, I like it.”
Her beating heart sank a little.
He didn’t like her and the fact made her a bit depressed.
“Close your eyes and get some sleep.”
“We’re going to sleep just like this?”
Cassian patted Yernia on the back and she looked him in the eye.
“What else can you do? If you roll over in your sleep, your head will split into two.”
“But——”
“It will be warmer for both of us if you hug me to sleep. Do you want me to freeze?”
Was that a threat?
“Then, are you going to use me as a substitute for a bonfire?” Yernia joked to erase her misunderstanding a while ago.
“Haha. Just say yes, Yernia.”
The two had a chat before they went to bed.
Cassian wasn’t suited to be a major at all.
What’s wrong with him?
She didn’t think of him as that reliable since he was her mischievous childhood friend.
Nevertheless, she should still protect him at all costs.
Wasn’t it boring to hear his childhood friend——
The bonfire had already turned into small embers.

The next day, Yernia helped treat the injured.
She hadn’t thought about it on the first day because there was no time.
The Knight accompanied Yernia to another barracks.
A lot of wounded soldiers were gathered there for treatment.
Yernia felt nauseous when she caught a whiff of a terrible stench, but she tried not to show it in her countenance.
“Who are you?”
When Yernia hesitated to move forward, the Knight standing behind told him instead. “She is Major Ricardo’s wife.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t know. Please come in.”
When Yernia tried to enter the barracks, a big man blocked her immediately and the pressure was enormous.
The man was on guard as he gave her a strange look.
“What brings you here?” He asked curiously.
“I want to help.”
“Aren’t you the major’s wife?”
Since Cassian was doing his best as the commander of this military unit, Yernia might as well do something helpful as his wife.
Most of all, Yernia wanted to help the soldiers.
She wanted to help those who were suffering in this cold place even if it was just a bit.
“Do we have a shortage of nurses? It’ll take a lot of time to apply. Let me help you before that.”
