It was a huge demon with size and power that was impossible to defeat.
Dozens had dispersed on the ground in just a single attack.
Even if all of them were trained soldiers, they helplessly ran away from it.
Fortunately, the monster’s speed had slowed down thanks to the long battle.
It was turning weak just like how a human would.
“Captain Leward, take the monster’s rear.”
“No. Why should I move to the back?”
More soldiers were injured than he thought.
Some people were leaving the battlefield and Cassian had to change their strategies as soon as possible.
Captain Leward refuted his order immediately after judging the situation.
“You’re hurt.”
“A Major who cares about me? That’s creepy.”
“I’m not worried about you, Captain. We must minimize the damage a bit for future operations.”
This wasn’t just the only evil thing the Royal Militia had to destroy.
Another monster lurking in the North was about to exit a large hole.
The damage would be enormous unless it was quickly obliterated.
Espers were the only weapon that could counter such evil so they weren’t allowed to die under any circumstances.
However, a demon had bitten Captain Leward’s arm and her flesh was torn.
If he wouldn’t get the necessary treatment, it would rot due to the poison from the demon’s teeth.
It was even more dangerous to retreat from a furious monster.
If it turned insane and came into the barracks, dozens of people would get killed.
Cassian needed to protect them.
“Captain Leward! We’re in trouble.”
Captain Leward’s knight came behind them.
Cassian wanted to break the knight’s neck for interrupting the battle they were trying so hard to win.
This Knight was more of a civilian than a soldier in this current situation.
“Habin is trying to run away. I’m trying to prevent him from doing so but Habin had taken someone hostage.”
Cassian knew how to kill this demon quickly if he awakened the monster inside of him.
If he swallowed it, it’s all over.
This ability had brought him so many victories on the battlefield.
But every time Cassian swallowed a monster, he had to suffer from the terrible pain of a torn arm and a broken head.
The pain’s intensity differed according to the monster’s size and abilities.
This dangerous ability could destroy his mind and could lead to his death.
If the Empire lost an Esper, it would also lose resources.
The Emperor ordered all Espers not to use this ability under any circumstances.
It was hard for Cassian not to use it so he had to minimize his chances of tapping into it as much as possible.
However, he had no other choice at the moment.
He had a hard time dealing with that evil thing, but fortunately, it was all over.
It was amazing how fast he could dispose of such a huge monster in a day.

“The hostage——”
Cassian called out the monster inside him.
The person’s name caught his ears as soon as he was about to order it to tear the monster apart and not eat it.
“It’s Major Ricardo’s wife. Yernia.”
At that moment, the dark monster devoured the devil.

“If you let Mrs. Lecardo go, I will help you under the name of the 1st Knights on whatever it is that you need. So, send her back here.” Tidy, the Knight whom Cassian had asked to keep Yernia safe, said.
He had no idea what the guide would ask for, but first of all, he had to secure Mrs. Lecardo’s safety.
He was apologetic for Mrs.Lecardo’s pale face as if she was holding her breath for the longest time.
Tidy resented himself.
He regretted relaxing even for a while.
He should have protected the little lady.
“It’s all right, My Lady. Just breathe.”
“Oh, my—”
“No one would dare hurt the Major’s wife so you will be all right.”
Tidy was frustrated that he couldn’t get close to Yernia for fear that the other guide would become dangerous.
Before Habin did anything horrible, the Major’s wife would be crying before she fainted.
He clicked his tongue when Habin started backing away from them.
“I don’t trust anyone here. And tell Captain Leward that I hate her.”
“I——Let go….”
“I’m sorry about the Major’s wife.”
Yernia couldn’t understand why Habin wanted to take her, so she was in a dark spot.
Is she going to be kidnapped just like this?
She hated it, but she couldn’t do anything not when the tip of the cool blade was touching her neck.
Everything felt so sad and scary that it reminded her of Cassian.
Then, tears naturally came out of her eyes.
“Habin, think again. If you run away like this and get caught by Captain Leward, you will not be safe.”
“I don’t want to be her guide.”
“Be careful what you say. Don’t you know we have already told Captain Leward about this? Say that you have changed your mind now and we will tell her immediately——”
“Ha!”
Habin’s evil chuckle brushed her ears, making Yernia shudder.
“She can’t even come here because she is busy dealing with the monsters right now, isn’t she?”
“Habin.”
While he was distracted from talking to Captain Reward’s Knight, Tiddy, who exchanged eyes with Yernia, approached.
All Knights should be good at hiding their footsteps.
As Tidy approached quietly, Yernia slipped out her arm.
As soon as his two hands were about to reach her, Habin figured them out.
“Don’t come!”
The knife aimed at her neck shifted to her ribcage again, digging into Yernia’s side.
