My Stupid Brother

 

 

“That’s nonsense! You two should get married and live happily ever after!”

“Yes, yes.”

“I have already decided on the congratulatory song that I’ll sing when you guys get married! How could this happen?!”

I patted Mira on the back and looked at the distant mountain.

According to the original story, Rose was supposed to be the one to give the break-up speech.. And instead of giving me a congratulatory song, the maids would have to come to my funeral and drop white chrysanthemum flowers one by one on top of the coffin before burying it in the ground.

Mira buried her face in her palms.

“What kind of calamity is this, really…?!”

“I know.”

I really have no idea what kind of a bolt from the blue this is. As I twirled my hair with my fingers, I noticed how long and luxurious it was. I looked at my hair in my hands once again and took a deep breath.

(T/N: “A bolt from the blue” is a figurative speech for an unfortunate event that occurs unexpectedly.)                           

Rose Fall was a woman with thin, wavy, red hair and clear emerald green eyes. The way the tails of my eyes slanted up like a cat’s really fascinated me. 

If the female lead is a beauty reminiscent of a purple flower, then Rose is described as a woman reminiscent of a red rose, as her name suggests.

Her beauty resembled the flower so much that when she stood in a field of roses, it was difficult to tell whether she was a human or a flower..Unfortunately, she caught the attention of Belial who made her life miserable and led her to death.

“Madam, look, it’s the Serenity family’s crest…!”

“We’re almost there. Calm down.”

We saw James, the personal butler of Belial. He informed his master about the arrival of Rose Fall, who was hidden behind the carriage’s curtain.

James was initially Bellial’s faithful supporter, but he will soon be disappointed by the sudden change in his master’s behaviour. Later on, he will realize that Rose is not fit to become the next mistress of the House of Serenity.

Which is why he told the original heroine that Belial’s ex-fiancee died in an accident. But the heroine felt something strange about it, that’s why she investigated the death of Rose and succeeded in destroying the powerful Duke Belial.

Belial hid his twisted personality and was considered to be the perfect bachelor in the social circles. Even the aristocrats and the Royal family looked up to him, that’s just how perfect his image is.

Who is the mistress? Of course the female lead who received the main character’s plot armor, who was meticulous as Belial. With just one clue from James, she manages to uncover the cause of Rose’s death and exposes the evidence to the public. The revelation which fully damages the name of the Serenity family.

When the heroine revealed that the Duke murdered his fiancée, Belial was severely criticized by the general public. Consequently, he became blacklisted from social gatherings.

In a way, the events that followed were a series of misfortunes. Rose, who couldn’t even lay a finger on Belial while she was alive, became the most lethal weapon that was used on him after she died.

As expected, the world inside the novel was only generous to the main character. That is when my expression became sentimental.

“I have no face to meet the Lord! He was the only person in the family who supported the young lady’s love!” 

I looked at Mira with tired eyes, she wouldn’t stop crying. But if she continues to do so, she would definitely become exhausted.

“… By the way, what do you mean?….. About my father supporting our love…”

“Didn’t you know? The Madam and Young Master are opposed to your relationship with the Duke. But the Lord was different. He said he could tell how happy you both are with a single glance. At the time, the Young Master was furious and…!.”

– Huh!

Suddenly, the carriage rattled which made the windows open, as I struggled to close it back.

“What’s going on?” 

The coachman shouted as he tried to calm down the startled horses.

“A man suddenly fell from the tree!” 

“… From the tree?”

My eyes narrowed involuntarily. As the dust settled, a person suddenly appeared right in front of me. His face was barely visible due to the hood over his head, but I noticed a quiver placed behind his shoulder. 

He is the only person who shoots arrows among the main characters in the original book. Speak of the devil. I clicked my tongue and went out of the carriage.

“Brother.”

‘Beryl Fall’, Rose Fall’s older brother and one of the main characters recruited to defeat Belial. As he took off his robe, his orange hair reminiscent of the sunset, shone brightly, but not in a vivid red color like Rose. The coachman was astonished.

“Young Master?”

The coachman immediately stood up and bowed his head.

“I’m sorry.”

“How dare I not recognize you!” 

“Don’t apologize. It’s natural that you don’t recognize him.”

“My Lady…!”

Is it normal for a nobleman to just jump off a tree? Does he really want to be scolded again by our Mother? As I spoke in a sarcastic tone, Mira grabbed my arm as if telling me not to speak. But I continued to speak anyway, without hesitation.

“Why? Did I say something wrong? What kind of nobleman would jump off a tree?” 

“That’s true, but….”

I hate to admit it, but I really love his curly hair that resembles a sheep’s wool. His hair wasn’t the only thing that stood out. I also admire his delicate jawline and green eyes. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the person in front of me is the embodiment of the spirit of fire that had descended. However,

“What are you doing out this late?”

The fact that he is my older brother was the main reason I didn’t fall in love with him. No matter how handsome he was, an older brother is still an older brother. Whenever people admire him for being so good looking, I want to contradict it. Because people didn’t know how utterly annoying he is.

I tiredly looked at Mira, and she immediately pulled out her pocket watch from her pouch and checked the time. The hour needle was now pointing at the number 6. It’s really late.

“It isn’t that late yet.”

But my brother didn’t move.

“You went out with that kid again.”

“…Then why are you here? Did you wait for me? Just like last time?”

“Why would I be waiting for someone like you? You’re so delusional, I was about to go home from my Archery practice in the forest, and I saw our carriage, that’s why I blocked it.”

Archery practice? I agreed to it right away, since Beryl plays a decisive role in punishing Belial to put him in a dead end. A sharpshooter like him, wouldn’t neglect practice. No matter how busy he is Beryl, never skipped his training.

“I keep telling you that I don’t like him.”

If I were to die, it would be understandable for him to hate him, but I’m still alive. I couldn’t understand why he just suddenly screamed at my face. 

“Don’t you remember?! The first time he came to our house!”

“… When we first met?”

“Yes, that’s correct!”

I tried to recall my memory from back then. Around this time last year, Belial came to our house with a load of gifts in his arms, saying that he wanted to say hello to my parents. I already knew that I had a really good poker face. However, my parents couldn’t control their facial expressions at that time. 

They knew that their daughter had a lover, but they didn’t expect him to be a great and influential person. My brother was the only one who was not awed by him. As soon as he met Belial he said:l

‘Well, young man, you still lack a lot.’

‘It’s alright. I am aware that I’m rather lacking.’

‘No, you’re a very precious person. First, I will teach you how to become a good match for my sister. Don’t come back until then.’ 

‘When will that be?’

‘A decade later?’

‘You seem to be against us.’

‘No. I’m just telling you this because I’m afraid that this child might cause trouble for the Duke. Even with dirt in my eyes, I would still be able to educate you properly. So please wait ten years.’

To say such a thing in front of the head of the Serenity family. I don’t know if I should call it brave or ignorant, but the fact that my brother is astonishingly stupid hasn’t changed. Though, Belial wasn’t easy either.

‘It breaks my heart to hear that you are against us. One moment please, my knights will soon bring the dirt.’

I tried to put some dirt in my brother’s eyes without changing my facial expression. In the end, my brother had to hide behind my back after losing face.

Maybe he deserves to hold a grudge. After all, he was humiliated in front of his parents. It’s not that I don’t quite understand my brother’s feelings either. However…

“What is this bouquet of flowers? You haven’t been proposed to, have you?”

He’s too extreme. My older brother got into the carriage, scanned the surroundings, and snatched the bouquet of roses. He shook the bouquet in his hands wildly.. Rose petals fluttered everywhere.

“Why don’t you wake up from that guy? Also, Mother said that she doesn’t want you to get married yet.”

“………”

“How can you be so unlucky? He only gave you a bouquet of flowers? That man thinks the world belongs to him. Why? Is it because he’s rich and handsome?”

Belial’s antics are way over the top, because for him the world is not enough and he wants to have the whole universe under his feet. That’s why <What Kind Of Flower Are You?> took first place after receiving an overwhelming amount of votes for its popularity.The thought just crossed my mind. 

“Go back to that child and tell him that next time, even if he puts stones in my eyes, we still won’t accept him.”

“… You don’t have to worry about that.”

My brother’s face brightened immediately.

“Why? Did you refuse? Yes, that’s good. It’s still too early for you to get married!”

Judging by his reaction, there is a high probability that my brother will play drums and lyre, like what Mira did before I threw a fastball at her. 

“I was dumped.”

” My Lady…!”

Mira started to sniffle again. On the other hand, my older brother tilted his head to the side not understanding the situation.

“Tea? You said you were drinking black tea or herbal tea?”

(T/N the Hangul for this part is “차” as per korean dictionary this pertains for 2 diff meanings. The first one is ” Tea (차 1)” and the second is ” Car (차 2)” since our FL is a modern person she always uses the word “Car” to imply that she was dumped. That’s why her brother misheard it as Tea since it has the same Noun in hangul.)

Wow, that’s no fun. Then I said with a straight face. 

“That’s not it, we said goodbye.”

“What? Goodbye?”

He nodded his head vigorously. As if saying, that’s cool. I finally got rid of the guy I didn’t like. I was still embarrassed because it turned out different from the original story, but on the other hand, I was relieved. At least I won’t be bothered by my brother anymore in the future.

“I’ll talk to our parents myself….”

Thud. Then the bouquet of flowers fell on the floor. My older brother stomped on the bunch of flowers with his booted feet and shouted at it.

“How dare you break up with my sister?!”

He made a fuss when we started dating and now he’s still making a fuss after we broke up. Was he also this much of a nutcase in the original novel? I’m really at a loss for words.

“Rose Fall. My dear daughter.”

That night, an emergency meeting was held at the Fall family mansion.

Right now, I am considered to be the child of the family, but I’m still an adult. 

Conscientiously, the expression “child” is not appropriate to use. Anyway, as an adult in this new country, I always get ready to sleep by 11 o’clock.

“You’re finally here.”

With Mira’s guidance, I entered the drawing room. The whole room was dark. There was only one candle on the table glimmering softly. I closed the door silently. Two soft sofas were placed in the middle of the room.

Seated on the left sofa were  Primrose Fall, Rose’s mother and the mistress of the Viscount Fall, and her husband and Charles Fall, the head of the Fall family. I asked, slightly as I walked down at the edge of my foot.

“Mother, what’s wrong?”

But no answer came. My mother was pensive as she looked at the burning candle, while Father was busy watching her.

My brother shook his head and smiled at the strange atmosphere. Seated at the sofa on the opposite side, he pounded on the seat next to him.

“Come here. If you sit down, the meeting will begin.”

“Ah.”

I quietly sat next to my brother. However, contrary to my brother’s words, the meeting did not begin.

My mother continued to stare at the candles and the flower petals. If the candle had been living and not inanimate, it would have died from fear. My mother’s eyes were terrifying.
