Let’s Get Married

(Rose’s POV)

James, who poured hot black tea into their teacups, withdrew right away. I took a sip of the tea and then lifted my fork.

“It’s very delicious.”

Mont Blanc is really delicious. Belial then pushed the other desserts in towards me.

“I’m glad it suits your taste.”

“Why don’t you try it too, Belial?”

“Oh, I’m fine.”

“Don’t be like that.”

I cut out a portion of the Mont Blanc and tried to feed it to him. Belial struggled as he ate it. He still looks handsome even when eating.

“How is it?”

“…It’s delicious.”

“Your chef’s skills are amazing, aren’t they?”

Belial shook his head resolutely.

“No, it’s delicious because I ate it with you.”

“…….”

And that ends our conversation about his chef’s skills. I continued to cut the cake

“Did Belial have breakfast?”

“No.”

“What about dinner last night?”

“…….”

Belial remained silent. I continued to devour the Mont Blanc.

“It’s good to eat on time.”

“I’m quite busy with work…”

“You’re not working right now, are you?”

I understand that he is the head of the state and that he needs to work hard until a new successor is appointed. But still, he needs to eat three meals a day to stay healthy. If you don’t want your body to suffer in the future, you need to take care of it in the present.

I sent him a reproachful look. Belial then avoided my gaze as if he was ashamed of his doings.

“After breaking up with you, I just lost my appetite…”

“Oh, right. I was dumped”.

“What?”

The Mont Blanc was so good that I totally forgot about it. It was definitely Mont Blanc’s fault. How could this be so delicious? As punishment, I’ll eat this without leaving any crumbs. As I took another bite, I scrutinized Belial with my gaze.

If it is really true that he suffered enough to skip meals, he became very emaciated overnight. His white face looked sullen, and dark shadows were cast under his eyes.

“If someone saw you, they might think that I was the one who broke up with you.”

But even in the midst of all this, he’s still very handsome. Is this what decadent beauty is? What’s this precarious atmosphere that makes me feel like I’m standing on the edge of a cliff? I continued to say.

“You shouldn’t be having a hard time after breaking up with me. You should be living your ‘happily ever after’.”

Belial ruffled his hair without saying a word. Even such a simple movement adds a tempting vibe to the dangerous atmosphere we’re currently in. He’s like a demon that tempts people to fall into the abyss with him.

I’m really glad that Belial isn’t the devil that I thought he would be. If he was, I might have ruined many lives for him. Oh, I might have already done that unknowingly. As I had that thought…

“Don’t you hate me?”

Belial asked abruptly.

“Well, you just ran away on the spot without even saying goodbye.”

He is definitely reflecting on his mistake subconsciously. I really can’t get used to this.

“I thought that you’d hate me for the rest of your life after what happened, but then you come the very next day.”

“…….”

“I’m happy but miserable at the same time.”

Belial bowed his head.

“Do you really want me to hate you?”

“…I don’t wish for that. As I’ve already said, you should meet someone better than me.”

I can feel his strong will. Is it time for me to do something rude? He then paused while raising his arm.

“Aren’t you both beautiful and compassionate?”

What should I do? Cold sweat ran down my forehead. An unexpected problem has occurred.

“I’m sure you’ll meet a good person.”

Should I cry and beg and pull the hem of his clothes, while saying “Don’t leave me please, because I can’t live without you.” I traced my eyes with my fingers.

“Just go back. Forget about me. The farewell gift will be sent over in the afternoon…”

Tsk. I can’t even cry. I’m not even angry at him. But if I shouted out words with no emotion attached to them, it wouldn’t sound truthful. No matter how dull I am, I still know that.

Should I flip the table? No, that’s not okay either. Since the table is full of untouched desserts. I can Imagine the chef lamenting upon seeing the ruined desserts. Do I have another option?

“Rose?”

Since I can’t do this or that. If so, then… I clenched my jaw and asked seriously.

“What defines a good person?”

“What?”

“Whom do you refer to as a good person?”

To be honest, I have no idea why I said that. I just went with the flow. Belial hesitated at first. Then he answered my question.

“A person who is the opposite of me would be considered a good person.”

“Who said that to you?”

There was a moment of silence after that. Then Bellial tilted his head to the side.

“Do I really have to say it?”

“If you don’t want to say it, then don’t say it.”

Bellial shook his head right away.

“There’s no way that I don’t want to answer your question.”

“Then tell me.”

As his long fingers spread out. Belial, who suddenly reflected on what I said, folded his fingers one by one.

“If there is something that I want, I can somehow get it no matter what. If I were wronged, I would punish anyone. I would never tolerate even the smallest mistake.”

Belial’s voice got smaller as he spoke.

“But you’re innocent…”

Oh, can I  finally hear the words that I didn’t get to hear back then? I got a bit excited. Then Belial, who had stopped talking for a while, suddenly grabbed his face with the palm of his hands.

“I can’t really say it. I’m sorry, Rose.”

That’s a shame. It seems that I won’t be able to hear those words today. But I didn’t bother to pry. Everyone has at least one thing that they want to hide. Above all, I wasn’t that curious. That’s when I decided to get back to business.

“When you are born as a noble, you know that we have to marry a noble person as well, right?”

“Of course I know that.”

“Then, you must know that there are no good people among the nobles.”

“What?”

“It means everyone is a little bit like you.”

I’m telling you right now. There is no one in a high position without blood on their hands.

Just looking at the female lead and male lead, they committed a lot of murders for the sake of their own happiness. I would even say it would be almost impossible to find a virtuous person in this novel unless I had a good status.

As I stroked my chin, I murmured.

“Ah, I couldn’t think of anyone who would be considered a good person.”

“… Rose?”

“My family cannot even be considered to have a good status. At least when I met you, my name became known to people.”

“Rose.”

Bellial called my name again, but I pretended that I didn’t hear him.

“Since you broke up with me, I’ll become a worthless person again.”

Of course, my mother and father will find the best marriage candidate for me, but no one will treat me like Belial. They will treat me well if I have a pretty face, but once I get older, then they will start to treat me poorly. I closed my eyes and nodded.

“What you did for my happiness will bring me misery instead.”

“·······”

“But I can’t help it. If your heart thinks that this is right…”

Belial became serious even before I finished talking.

“Let’s get married, Rose.”

(Rose’s POV)

“May I escort you home?”

“No, it’s fine.”

James politely opened the door as I shook my head.

“Then may I offer you a carriage?”

“Our family’s carriage is waiting.”

“Then I’ll walk you to the place where the carriage is.”

“I have something to think about. You may return to Belial.”

James nodded his head. I grabbed the railing and went down the stairs. Good thing there’s something that I can hold onto, so I guess I can survive. After possessing this body, I hated going down the stairs because of how often I tripped on the hem of the dress.

“It’s getting on my nerves.””

Next time a seamstress comes, I should ask them to make several dresses that I can wear comfortably.

As I went down the last stairs grumbling, I saw Mira waiting. She was busily chatting with the maids who worked here. It was a very ordinary conversation, such as saying that the weather is nice these days and that it is the best for walks, and that the knights who train in the gym are so cool. Mira found me laughing while covering my mouth.

“Oh my, the lady is here.”

“Then we’ll go as well. Goodbye.”

“Take care.”

The maids bowed their heads to me as well and left quickly. Mira, who looked at the back of the maids, became sentimental.

“This will be the last time I talk to the maids here.”

“Really?”

“Well, I can’t help it, since I promised to support my lady.”

Mira then stretched out. She put her hands on her waist and asked cheerfully.

“How did it go, my lady? Has everything been clearly finished?”

“We’re getting married.”

“That’s great… What?!”

It wasn’t part of my plan, but I think I was half successful. I managed to put myself back on the original route again. Mira was startled by my poker face.

“I told you to end it for good, but instead, you got a proposal?!”

The house was turned upside down again. My brother grabbed my shoulder and shook me wildly.

“I shouldn’t have left it to you! What the hell did you say?!”

What did I say, well I just said that other nobles were just as filthy as Belial. How should I explain this? My brother’s kind of stupid so I have to explain it in simpler terms. I pondered and answered awkwardly.

“Dirty aristocrats…”

“But you’re an aristocrat, too!”

My brother continued to shake my shoulder. Though, it doesn’t compare to how Mira shook me to the point that it made me nauseous earlier.

“How much have you planned already?! What else did you talk about?! You haven’t set the wedding date, right?!”

“There’s no way that we would have set the wedding date already. We decided to get engaged first.”

“Then you’re saying that the date of the engagement has been set?!”

“How can the two of us decide that? Belial and I decided to discuss the details with our parents first.”

At that time, Mira approached and tried to stop him.

“Young master, calm down. She’s not getting married right away. Don’t worry too much because she can break the engagement at any time.”

My brother squinted his eyes.

“Put your hands down.”

Mira lowered her hand that was covering her mouth. The corners of her lips were upward, unaware that she was smiling broadly. That was the reason why she kept on covering her mouth.

“Hurray! They’re finally getting married! They’re finally getting married!”
