I woke up in an abandoned building with about four corpses laying around.
It was an unfamiliar surroundings but it was still the same setting of an apocalypse.
It was the same dream--no!
This is no dream. This is a curse.
Yeah a curse. I don't know how they did it but I was sure someone laid a hefty curse on me.
I sat up.
One side of the building had fallen off and laid open and though I could see the darkness of the night, for some weird reason I couldn't see beyond about 4,5 feet ahead, and my ears were so sensitive that I could hear the silent feet of the people walking far below.
7 people. 5 males and 2 females.
How did I know this? I don't know and I didn't care.
I was unbothered by it, just like I was unbothered by the corpses around me who seemed to be more asleep than dead. I was over all tired. Tired of been surprised, tired of been afraid.
Someone is punishing me with this curse and I would be damned if I give them the satisfaction.
I laid back on the ground and interlocked my fingers behind my head.
It is not eternal. I will just stay here until the time runs out.
30 minutes in I heard a very quiet footstep on the staircase downstairs. The corpse closest to the door was stirring up which means he heard it too.
The person downstairs laid the next step more quiet than the last one but the corpse was already getting up. It made a weird noise that sounded like someone who had their tongue yanked out and I doubt the persistent newcomer heard it.
But I wouldn't be bothered.
I closed my eyes and started going through my thoughts again.
How the fuck did this happen?
My mind instantly went to the morning of the lightning strike.
I let out a loud sigh.
No doubt at all. That was definitely the moment I was cursed. It was no ordinary lightning, Mrs. Patel said so herself. Surviving a lightning strike is a rare incredible luck but to get out of it unscathed was absolutely impossible...unless someone has other plans. Someone downright powerful.

Well fuck you. I will be damned if I give them the satisfaction.
A loud female cry teared through the night and my sensitive ear drums.
I clasped my hands over my ears as the sound quickly subsided.
The corpses were awake now and were rushing downstairs towards the direction of the sound. There were more of them than I thought but I wouldn't be bothered.
I closed my eyes again and I could hear her low sobbing and a lot of wood moving and pressure against wood.
None of my business, I told myself. And it is not real.
All these is not real, I repeated. Just some nasty mean curse meant to get at me.
If I don't get involved and wait long enough then it will go away.
Her sobbing continued and their attacks increased.
Fuck.
I found myself getting up.
I rushed out of the room and started running down the long hallway. My body was incredibly light and I felt like I could run so much faster if I put a bit of effort.
I did and seconds later I was jumping down staircases then to the packed lobby.
It was a horde as far as my 4 foot sight could see and more were coming in. All responding to the girl's sobs.
They act like they couldn't see me, or they didn't care I was there. I was even shoved a couple of times. Not that I cared much.
I started going closer to where they were gathered, fighting through the crowd.
Most of them couldn't see her. All they had going was her sobbing, like me.
"Stop crying!" I called out over the indistinct sounds of the corpses. "Do you hear me? Stop crying!"
"Dad?" I heard her whisper in a little girl-like voice that sounded oddly familiar.
Shit. What now?
