Chapter 21: Chapter 18 – Slimes!

The dwarf Willow brought me deeper into his office, there was a grindstone and an anvil ready to be used.

Athena followed us into the dwarf’s office as well, while holding her equipment.

The dwarf picked up a hammer and passed it to me. “Show me what ya got.”, he said, asking me to make a sword.

“…”

“What’s with the hold up?”, the dwarf asked as he looked at me impatiently. “Uh… I don’t know how.”, I said a little embarrassed.

The dwarf face palmed himself. “Aight’ meet me tomorrow mornin’ sharp. We’ll start your blacksmithing lessons. If ya don’t have anywhere to go y’can stay here.”, the dwarf said.

I apologized and thanked him and then gave him the money for the equipment and left the store, I was grateful that he wouldn’t mind teaching me blacksmithing, however did he have any ulterior motives or something else, however I chose to trust him for now.

We still had around two silver and fifty bronze, it should be enough for now, but we still need money.

We went back to the inn, since we ordered one night with breakfast, we could still use it for a bit. We put on the equipment, I had a chain mail and a leather armor with some metal plates covering my arms, chest, and knees.

Athena chose an agility-based armor, it was pretty much the same thing as me.

“Master are we going to do a quest now?”, Athena asked as we were leaving the inn. “Yeah, let’s go to the Guild.”, I answered.

We went to the guild, the people in the streets did not look at us like before, now we looked like adventurers, up to some extent.

We finally entered the guild, the adventurers again looked at us with the same expressions as last time, but now they were smirking even more.

“Seems like pretty boy got money from his mommy for equipment.”, one said with a grin.

Athena got a little annoyed, but I told her to let it go, we came up to the bulletin filled with quests.

There were eleven ‘F’ ranked quests most of them were goblin slaying and others wolf slaying, there were also quests to gather certain herbs or metals.

Athena picked up one of the quests. “Should we take this one?”, Athena suggested.

I looked at the quest for more information.

 

Quest: Subjugate twenty slimes and bring back the remains

Information: A certain Alchemist is seeking for slime rests and is requesting for slime resources.

 

Seems like a good quest in my opinion, slimes are supposed to be weak monsters or maybe in this world they are dangerous as all hell! “Yeah, let’s take this one.”, I said.

Athena nodded and then we went to the receptionist. “Is this the quest you’re taking?”

“Yes”, I answered and thus commencing the quest.

 

 

 

The quest we took was to slay slimes, so one of the best places were either swamps or caves by chance. But they could also be found in plains in the open.

We were currently outside on the road to Sintel which is the capital. We found some slimes on the road.

There was one problem though, the slimes looked way too cute! Slimes are known for being a monster that disintegrates metal and skin depending on how many times they’ve evolved. The slimes we found were kind of like newborn slimes and they were inoffensive. They were just wobbly, and they simply just jiggled there.

“Wiggle”, the slime wiggled.

“That’s it! I’m not going to kill them, or at the very least I want to bring one with me.”, I declared. These slimes were just too cute, even if they would one day disintegrate beings, I am going to at the very least bring one with me!

“Master if you are going to bring a slime with you that means you’re going to have to register it as your pet.”, Athena said.

At the guild if an Adventurer tames a monster they can be registered as pets, however those are very rare though.

“Please be careful.”, Athena said worried that I might get disintegrated. “Don’t worry I’m a ghost so even if my body disintegrates, I won’t actually die.”

The damage that ghosts take doesn’t actually exist, only magic can effect ghosts or at the very least really high strength attacks.

I approached one of the slimes, the one I approached was blue and it was wriggling at my direction, so I chose it. I tried picking it up and nothing really happened. Since I was suppressing my ‘Dark Aura’ it did not really react towards me.

I tried caressing the slime. It did not react! I thought that maybe it would react like a dog, but it seems it is tougher than I thought.

“You can do it master!”, Athena cheered me.

Wait a minute… aren’t we supposed to be on a quest? Welp, it doesn’t matter I will take this slime with me first.

I suddenly got an idea. I held my hand over the slime and started pouring mana into him. The slime started wriggling a lot more and then started sticking itself to me. The slime was about the size of a small dog, so it wasn’t heavy.

“I think I did it.”, I said as the slime started to rub itself on me. Athena looked at it with a sharp look, as if she were jealous?

“What are we going to do about the other slimes?”, Athena asked as she unscathed her sword. “Yeah, we have to take them down, but this one stays.”, I said as we went subjugating the slimes.

Athena sliced one, two, three and eventually seven, since slimes have low vitality they’re easy to defeat.

What was I doing? I was playing with my new pet slime and fighting at the same time. I was using some swords skills and I was trying to use new spells as well.

I created some more spells for ‘Dark Attribute Magic’.

After the spell ‘Brainwash’, I have created the spell ‘Dark Bullet’ I know it is very creative. (Sarcasm)

‘Dark Bullet’ is the ‘Dark Attribute Magic’ version of ‘Mana Bullet’. The only difference is that the dark bullet does more damage to the enemy and not just that it inflicts two times the pain.

The second Spell is ‘Dark Shot’ you can guess what this is. It the dark attribute magic version of ‘Mana Shot’. This one pierces the enemy and makes them suffer for as long as the wound  is open.

I also created a spell that is related to ‘Fire Attribute Magic’, however since I don’t have that attribute, I had to improvise and make something different.

It is called ‘Black Flame Ball’, I created it by imagining a flame, I couldn’t possibly manipulate fire without the right attribute, so I made something that is related to my attribute. Black flame ball is a spell that is created by copying the shadow of a flame, it makes something like a fire ball. The effects are that when it hits a target it pierces their body and starts spreading black flames throughout its body and reduces them to ashes.

It is difficult to explain how exactly I made these spells, it was kind of like drawing without having an end image to it, just an idea drawn on the canvas.

Casting these spells are hard, since normally you need chant to cast a spell, these cost you a lot of mana. However, thanks to the skill ‘Mana Control’ it reduces some of the amount of mana needed to cast it.

I tried using the ‘Black Flame Ball’ spell against one of the slimes, and the black flame shot through its body leaving a hole. The slime tried recovering the missing piece of its body, but black fire started to spread throughout its body ending up turning it to ash.

Athena watched that happen, and her eyes were shot open. “Master, what spell was that? I’ve never seen it.”, Athena didn’t know that I had an attribute that might not have existed in this world.

“Oh… I guess I did not tell you. I have a magic attribute that doesn’t exist.”, I told Athena about my attribute.

“Wow! As expected of master!”, Athena exclaimed. “Yeah, it’s not that impressive, I still don’t know how to use it completely yet.”, I told Athena as we continued to subjugate the slimes.

“No, it’s amazing! If you were to report that to the guild you would receive tons of gold for whatever informs you could get about your magic!”, Athena said.

‘Tons of gold!’, I thought about me swimming in a tub of gold, but I got that thought out of my head and went back to reality. “No, it would be better to keep it secret. Imagine what would happen if people found out.”, humans are greedy beings, if they could get their hands on a magic not seen before they would take it.

“Understood. Master.”, Athena said with a nod as if she understood what I meant, and we continued subjugating the slimes.

After we finished our quest, we went back to the guild to finish our quest and received our rewards. I brought my new companion together to the guild as well so that I could register him as my familiar.

Athenas sword was rusty because of the skin of the slimes, the slimes ended up rusting her sword and mine as well.

We entered the guild and went towards the receptionist, the adventurers were looking at my slime who was in my shoulder. The adventurers were probably thinking ‘why does this guy have a slime on his shoulder? Does he have a death wish?’, and of course that’s what they would be thinking.

Slimes are known for being monsters that do not just disintegrate armors and weapons, they can also disintegrate human flesh and bones as well.

However, I am a ghost to begin with, so my body will not exactly be affected by it. And also, this slime is my new friend! Do not talk bad about it!

The receptionist looked at the slime. “I-is that one of the slimes you were supposed to subjugate?”, the receptionist asked. “Yes, I was able to tame it and would like to register it as my familiar.”

The receptionist gulped since slimes are known for being quite dangerous. She took out a sheet of paper. “Please fill out this paper.”, the receptionist said trying to keep her professional smile.

The sheet of paper asked me where I got it from and asked what name to give it. It was not asking much of me, so I filled everything out.

“A name… what should it be?”
