“Welcome ladies and gentlemen! To the annual fighting tournament!”, the announcer spoke through a microphone that augmented his voice to be audible to the whole stadium.
The crowds of people cheered in excitement, their long awaited tournament was once again about to initiate.
“This is literally the worst case scenario for a introvert like me…”, I whispered to myself.
Today is the tournament, they still haven’t announced the courses of the tournament. Thus, I am still a little troubled.
“Hey, you’re in the way scram!”, a arrogant person in armor pushes me out of his way and moved forwards.
Yes, as of right now I am among the other contestants, they were all in one line towards a gate to make their appearance before the stadium.
‘I thought that I was prepared for this… but I’m definitely not!’, I thought.
“Alright ladies and gentlemen, here are our contestants!”, the gates opened and the participants squished themselves onto the open field inside of the stadium.
‘At this point I don’t even need to walk to get there…’, I was being carried by the crowd of adventurers.
In this tournament only adventurers could participate, that is one of the many reasons why there were a lot of variety in the crowd.
I saw elves, dwarves, Demi-humans and some of these aren’t any of these… I think. I might simply be assuming.
The adventurers/contestants arrived on top of a platform specifically made for this event. The adventurers were as excited as the people on the stadium.
‘Are these people really that excited for killing each other?’, I began to doubt these people’s sanity, despite the fact that I have a skill that would prove my insanity’s level.
I inspected the cheering crowd and found Willow together with Alice and Azure among the rows of people.
‘Athena… what have you been doing…?’, she hadn’t been present for straight three days, Alice and Azure told me she was fine, but I still couldn’t get a peace of mind.
“Where are you…!!”, I realized what I had been thinking and got instantly embarrassed. I shook my head in denial, and snapped back to what was about to happen.
“Wow! The crowd is going crazy ladies and gentlemen, but please control yourselves.”, he spoke in a jokester like manner. “This year we’ve got over five hundred contestants, however only three can come out victorious!”
‘So they’ll be having around five hundred corpses this year?’, I thought pessimistic way.
“Now, now, I’m sure all of you are excited for the tournament this year, so without a further ado. Let’s announce the first course of event!” the announcer who was speaking behind some sort of booth took out a love of paper from his pocket.
“This years starting even will be…”, the people were trembling from excitement, the tension between the adventurers were rising as the announcer slowly folded the paper open.
“A battle royale!”, he announced.
The adventurers were excited, some of them even fist bumped in the air as if saying ‘victory is assured’. The crowd was still as excited as before, whatever the challenge or trial it would be the excitement would stop no matter what.
And me? I was terrified.
‘Seriously? I’m done with these types of games, and now I have to experience them here as well!?’, I clenched my fists in defeat.
“Settle down, please! I now will be explaining the rules.”, another person appeared with a microphone on its hand, he had black colored eyes and dark bluish bags under his eyes that made you think ‘does this person sleep at all?’.
“Listen closely, the contestants will be teleported into a ‘Reality Marble’ created by our finest mages provided by the kingdom. The ‘Reality Marble’ is limited in its size and time, the insides of the reality marble are randomized.”, the monochrome like voice explained. “You’ll have five hours to reduce the number of contestants to half, that mean two hundred and fifty contestants. Once set number has been reached the reality marble will decimate. Worry not, you will be safely teleported back to the stadium.”
“However, is the set number is not reached within the time the reality marble can stand, everyone will be disqualified.”
Right the moment he said that, the adventures started feuding amongst each other. “Isn’t that a little too harsh?!”, a adventurer shouted towards the second announcer. “Yeah!”
“I can see as to why… you’re upset…”, the man dozed off a little bit snapped right back. “However, this is a measure we must hold, in the case that all of you think that doing nothing will get you anywhere.”
He is right, this isn’t like a game where if you died you can just try again. Here you might even receive a fatal injury and have to retire as an adventurer. That’s why some even try to just not do anything and try to win. If there was no consequence one might even try to just wait until the time runs out.
The adventurers calmed down and the announcer sighed. “I hope all of you understand. Now onto the next rule: it is forbidden to team up, if you are caught teaming up with another adventure you might get disqualified.”
‘It’s not as if I have anyone to team up with…’, I looked around, the adventurers weren’t as shaken as before. This was a ‘Battle Royale’, the main objective is to survive, though this one might be a little different.

“Any questions regarding the battle Royale?”, he asked and nobody responded. “Okay, get ready to fight!”
Mages came from left and right surrounding the small platform we were standing on, twenty over them together.
They readied their staffs and commenced the chanting, and a huge magic circle appeared below us.
‘Ugh, it’s this weird feeling again…’, I felt my body twist again in a weird way, despite it being perfectly fine.
“Remember, if your opponent gives up, spare them. And they’ll be teleported back. If you do not respect this rule, you are disqualified. ”, he left one last note behind before a pillar of light erected below our foots.
And thus the tournament started.
I looked around, my sense of self was hazy and my head hurts. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster, so to say I was feeling sick.
‘God I hate this feeling, I just needed to be so sensitive to mana…’, I complained as I checked my surroundings.
I found myself inside a forest, the sky was pure blue and the trees swayed perfectly aligned with the wind.
“I wonder how people make these ‘Reality Marbles’?”, I spoke to myself, there were no life signatures that I could pick up through the ‘No-Attribute Magic’ spell 'sense'.
I checked my equipment, my two swords were there despite them being un-materialized, and my staff I altered was with me and my body was alright. No abnormalities found.
“I was worried that something might be misplaced or that I wouldn’t be brought over, what a relief.”, I speculated. That meant that the reality marble teleports everything within it’s range of Fire instead of just the 'physical' entities inside.
“Now, let’s test my new armor.”, I extended my arm, and my body began to glow in a purple and red color. “‘Spirit Armor’!”
My body was covered in black clad armor, my arms, legs and chest were covered by red black steel looking substance. It looked like basic armor anyone could get until you realize the actual color of the metal.
“This armor is still just a ‘prototype’ in the future I’ll make a better one.”, I noted for myself, it wasn't that the armor in itself was bad. It was just that I didn't like its design.
This armor was made while I was in ‘Ashen’, it’s ‘spirit’ clothes, pretty much they’re not visible to the eye unless I materialize them. It’s like one of those anime transformation clothes from anime’s.
I inspected the surrounding area, the spell ‘sense’ sort of did the same thing. Though the sensing part is less accurate, it’s more like a radar. For example if I would sense a building I would feel a square like signature from the spell.
“I’m in the literal sense, in the middle of nowhere.”, everywhere I looked, I could see nothing but trees and bushes. Even the very atmosphere felt empty, dead even. It was even scary how silent it was, but I couldn't really blame them.
If my hunch is correct, a reality marble is a spell that recreates or creates a custom space, that means this place either exists somewhere in the world. Or these mages must have Picasso mind level imagination.
“How big is this ‘Reality Marble’?”, another wonder had been raised.
There were twenty mages needed to create this place… or was it reconstructed by an already existing place? “If only twenty mages were needed to create a place like this, then it means they must be specialists."
“Okay, I need to start strategizing.”, I prepared myself for the tournament.
I already knew what to do, this was the only way of being able to save the twins in time. If I failed I would have to resort to unsightly methods.
That’s why I have to definitely win.
