Chapter 2: Chapters 1 — A crazy encounter!

“Hello!, is anybody there?”

I could hear several knocks coming from the door of my house, surprised by the sudden visit of someone, I went from the kitchen to the entrance with my knife in hand because I forgot to leave it on the table where I was cutting the vegetables.

It was there that I saw a young man about my age with a very well-groomed appearance and equipment. In my head, I got the idea that he was a scout by the clothes he is wearing.

“Are you…? Isuke!?”

I noticed that he was quite nervous, as he kept shaking.

“Yes, that's me, in fact, I'm the only one who lives in this house. Would you stop yelling?”

Accidentally, I raised the knife and the boy nodded hurriedly.

“I am Petris and I come here on a recommendation from Alexia because she said that you were….”

“Am I…?”

“That”.

“No, I don't know what you mean by that”.

The boy hesitated for a few seconds to continue, but went on:

“A student”.

There was an awkward silence between the two of us.

Alexia… Why do you have to spread such big lies?

I thought to myself as I let out a sigh.

“Look…”

“Yes!” The boy straightened his back and gave a military salute.

“I don't know how much she told you, but it's all a lie” I expanded my arms to express myself better. “A big, big lie, that big! Don't you know that demi-humans like to lie? They are great liars. Don't believe that girl next time”.

Having made this clarification, I thought he was going to leave, but he stared at me quite determinedly.

“Sir!” He paused and knelt down on his knees. “We need you! Weren't you a student of the Great Magic Academy of the Kingdom of Astarock?”

I had no comment on that statement.

What a blatant lie

I thought.

After several seconds, I bent down and touched his back several times as a signal for him to get up.

“Hey, hey… Did you seriously believe a lie that I was an outstanding student at the top academy of the third largest and most powerful kingdom on the continent?”

For some reason, the boy began to cry. And before I could ask him the reason, even while still kneeling, he exclaimed with emotion:

“You are a very noble person!”

“What?” was all I could think.

“Since he disagreed with the evil student council that mistreated and insulted the useless demi-humans… he decided to leave the academy! As much as graduating from, there would give him a great status and a good life, he quit without caring in the least!”

“Hey, I think you just insulted them too….”

The boy stood up from the floor, and even with tears in his eyes, began to narrate as if his life depended on it.

“He won competitions! He was number 1! And his dropping out was definitely a blow to the academy's reputation! Currently, he lives a humble life but, still….”

The boy glanced at the window of my house, in which a rather old book could be seen on top of a table.

“Still studying on your own” This last I noticed that he said it with quite a bit of admiration. “Isuke, please… Help us with this mission!”

“Look… we really need to clear this…”

And before I could formulate a good argument against that pack of lies, interrupting me, the boy exclaimed:

“We'll pay you well! That's 5 platinum coins as a reward!”

Without thinking twice, I stretched out my hand.

“It's a deal”.
