Chapter 10: What was her name?

"What to do, what to do.."

I am sooooo bored. I just woke up but am so full of energy that I feel like running.

Well, maybe I exaggerate a bit too much. But I indeed feel much better today. All these hours of sleep helped me for sure. Honestly, I have been kinda worried about that.

Do you know? Knowing that this body has an incurable illness. I hoped that when I woke up for the first time in this world. Someone that reincarnated me would naturally heal me.

Like reincarnating me only for me to die soon after doesn't make sense does it?

But thankfully I don't seem to have any symptoms of the original illness. It just seems recovery from near dead-state to normal will take me a while.

These are my thoughts about it after analyzing my situation a little.

Actually, this can even be helpful. I need to adapt to my new environment. Which is easier said than done. I am still pretty confused about a lot of stuff.

I guess my first goal should be a conversation with Dr.Rozenberg. I don't want to speak to him if I was, to be honest, and it's not like I hate him or something from memories, I got to know that he is a really nice old man.

He was a doctor that was taking care of Kate from a young age. When she was only 10 years old and got a sudden attack of the illness in the classroom which was really painful btw.

In my recollection, it was really hard to watch. Seeing her in pain only for other kids to ridicule her. If the classes didn't start and the teacher didn't enter the room in time.

I do not know what would happen.

But moving that aside he was always nice to her. Even though at first he was kinda cold. Her smiles and her stupid questions. I would defend her in that sense, "there are no stupid questions only stupid answers".Kinda melted his old, cold, bitter heart.

Well, I think I use the term: "old", a bit too much. But I can't help it because Kate liked to always refer to him as "old man".So I kinda just adopted that.

He is really getting on in years. It's really surprising that he didn't already retire.

So that is why I'm pretty hesitant. I have these two buttons on my bed. One is for calling a nurse the other is for a doctor. I guess I should call someone?

I don't need anything from the nurse. So it's a doctor then?

Interesting if there will come some random dude or someone that I already know.

'Well, let's see.'

Not waiting anymore, I clicked a button.

The button seems to light up after I clicked it. So I just relaxed and waited.

I hope, I didn't click the wrong button. Like some emergency or something?

That would be bad, wouldn't it?

Kate didn't have a perfect memory. So the memories that I got are not always perfectly clear. Especially those from her childhood. I think I clicked the right button but well I am not 100% sure.

After a little time, "my doctor" entered a room. What was her name again?

'Lol, I can't remember.'

"Hey, how are you doing today?"

She asked me with a nice smile.

"Well much better today"

"We thought that it's time to take you off from a drip"

Said a girl at the same time typing something on the tablet.

"Well you are a doctor here so, do what you have to"

I said not having a problem with that.

"Okay give me your arm"

I did exactly that and shortly after she took the needle from my arm"

"I really can't believe you were so reckless to take it out by yourself, last time"

She said bending over my bed and placing a little gauze over the puncture site.

A looked at her that is still looking at my arm and answered.

"Well, I couldn't take that off like the other wires. So I had to take that off entirely."

I said matter of fact.

She took her eyes off my arm and looked at me now directly. 'So close...'

"I will not ask you what was so important to you that you did that.

But..you shouldn't do that again okay?"

It was clear that she will not take "no" for an answer.

I can't promise, what if I had to go to the toilet again?

But outside I nod my head and replied.

"Ok"

"I am happy to hear that"

She said with a smile and took away the gauze.

She walked a couple of meters away to the medical supply cabinets from which she took something and came back to me.

Putting a band-aid plaster on my little wound?

"That should work better"

She murmured to herself and took the drip bag going to the door.

I said aloud and snuggle into my covers.

It really has been a long while since I could be so carefree. Not needing to do anything. Just sleeping.

It's completely different from my old life. Yeah, I decided to refer to my life on Earth as "old life".The end of something.

Always brings a new beginning and honestly, I want to start anew, try something different, not make the same mistakes, and be happy.

One lonely tear traveled down my face as I thought about my parents.

But I was unaware of that. Thinking about what the future will bring...

Walking through the corridor returning to my patient's room. I thought about calling Dr.Rozenberg. But in the end, I stopped myself midway.

Last time when I gave him my last report (he is my supervisor basically) and told him that she fell asleep again.

He told me after reading it that even though he needs to talk to her. Health is the most important thing and I should only call him when she feels better.

I guess today is too soon.

Finally opening the door to my patient's rooms. Her name is Katherine, isn't it?

It's a nice name. Let's see if she's fallen asleep. She kind of sleep a lot. Most of the time when I visit her she is doing exactly that.

Closing the door behind me, I head in her direction. She seems to have closed eyes like she usually does but actually even if she's awake she likes to keep them closed.

As I was to speak to her, my words stopped at my throat. When I saw the clean path of a teardrop on her face.

'Did she cry?'

I thought to myself and asked.

"Hey I'm back, are you okay?"

I couldn't ask her directly. So I tried a different approach.

She pursed her lips and glanced at me with her watery eyes.

"Yeah I heard you long ago"

Her face morphed into confusion and added.

"and yes I'm fine, didn't you already ask me this question?"

Well if she doesn't want to tell me. I am not gonna pry as long as it's not a physical problem.

"Well anyways, I will have to leave you if you are fine. I'm on a tight schedule today. Any questions?"

"Well, actually do you have a Tv in this room? I am kind of bored."

She asked me a little unsurely. I dunno, but I can't help but think that she's cute. When she's acting like this.

"Yup you know just standard. But you have to say: /Tv down/"

On this command, the ceiling seems to open and the big monitor seems to come from it. Stopping not too far not too close to the patient's bed.

"or /Tv up/ "

After these words screen retreated to the ceiling.

She looked at me and said: "Thanks"

"No problem"

I smiled and turned away from her.

Placing my hand on the door handle, I turned back after thinking about something.

"Call a nurse and ask for some food. You should eat something"

She only turned her head in my direction looking at me skeptically, I met her gaze and she just frowned.

"Are you my mum to remind me that I should eat?"

Sometimes she is so cheeky that I feel like, she wants to especially annoy me. Her small smile at that time really infuriates me. But I know better than that, to hold my mouth shut.

I learned my lesson from the last time when she argued with me. She just waits for my response only to destroy me even further. Like, she already anticipates my answer and knows exactly what to say.

But I don't hate it. She never says it in a serious tone and...

She seems to be having fun. It's not often that she's smiling. So I will overlook that. I supposed...

I just hope the news about me getting bullied by a girl one year younger than me. Wouldn't spread. If so my coworkers surely wouldn't let me stop hearing about it.

Just a thought seems to send chills down my spine. So I hurried up and left the room.
