Chapter 11: So are you gonna help me?

It has been three days already. I have been doing practically, nothing. Other than watching some TV and speaking to Alice, yes I got to remember her name. I was just sleeping.

I honestly hate wasting time like that. But well, I can't speed up my recovery, even if I wish to.

Actually, I made a discovery. Well, I don't know if you can even call it that. But I had been pretty bored these days. The buttons on my bed the one for the nurse and the other for the doctor.

The button for a doctor only calls Alice but one for a nurse actually calls the closest nurse to my room. But most of the time still will arrive this nice nurse from before. What, I mean is that all the nurses here seams to be nice but I still prefer the first one.

So yup I'm bored. I am used to always working and suddenly having nothing to do is really an unnerving feeling.

Suddenly a door cracks open. I the other hand didn't even bother to look at who it is and kept staring absently through the glass at the city beneath me. Dunno but I feel kinda depressed today.

'It's surely because of this cloudy weather.'

I thought to myself.

"Hey what are you staring at?"

Said a cheerful voice beside me.

I don't need to turn back to know that she's probably now trying to look at the same spot I'm gazing, to know what got my attention.

But she would be disappointed because I am not looking. My mind is somewhere else.

"Nothing"

I answered dryly. Taking a peek behind me. Only to find my head a couple of centimeters next to hers.

This girl definitely doesn't know the definition of "personal space". But I will not comment on that. It seems that she is pretty obvious about it.

"Is that so?"

She answered.

'Ugh.' That is my catchphrase. She stole it from me.

"Well whatever, I have something for you "

"For me?"

I said, finally turning to her. Looking at her suspiciously.

She stood at the base of my bed with her hands behind her back.

Trying to look the most natural as she can be. But I saw it. The smirk that she was trying to hide.

"Yes, yes so close your eyes for a moment okay?"

"Why I would do that?"

I looked at her with the expression "dream on".

"Common just for a moment "

She looked at me with a pleading expression.

"Hm, you wish"

I said and turned away from her.

Only ten seconds later I heard the sound of someone sitting on my bed... Violating my sacred place where I sleep is a crime against humanity. So I obviously turned to reprimand her for that.

But...

As I turned around something is instantly put in my mouth?!

A spoon?

Looking at her, I see her looking at me with a determined expression.

"If you don't want to do it an easier way, I am forced to do it"

On one hand, she held a spoon and on the other, she was holding a plate that was sitting on her lap.

The food.A mush of something "health".

'Ick.. disgusting' even in the army as a recruit, I ate better-looking food.

I held an instinctive reflex to gag.

Seeing that I am still unwilling to gulp down the food she said.

"Do you know how many times, I got complaints that you don't eat anything?

You could hear an angry undertone when she said that.

"From today on you will no longer get any nutrition through a vein. So there is no way, I am exiting this room without you eating fully this plate.

I grimaced at her words, there is no way I will eat it all.

But in the end, I swallowed the food in my mouth.

I am honestly afraid, if I don't do it she will forcefully feed me.

Seeing me actually eating, softened her expression a little bit and soon afterward next portion was waiting near my mouth.

I was so unwilling but what I can do?

Keep my jaws closed?

I am not that childish.

I ate it. She finally smiled and came a little closer for easier access.

"Good girl" she muttered silently. When I ate the third one.

I can only hope that at this moment my face didn't turn red too much because I'm so embarrassed right now.

Trying to stop this awkward situation, I asked.

"Are you always feeding your patients like that?"

I asked her with a hint of mockery.

She seems surprised by my question and a blush started creeping up her cheeks but soon her face turned annoyed remembering something.

"I do not, but it seems you charmed nurses too much and they are unwilling to force you to eat"

I perked up my ears after hearing this. Eating another spoonful of this cream. Honestly, it's not that bad it's just the texture is kind of disgusting.

"I didn't charm anyone"

I defend myself.

She raised one of her eyebrows provocatively and looked at me.

"Yea you sure did not"

In a couple of days, we talked kinda a lot. I don't know if it's because we are similar in age. (body-wise) or something. But she seems to be fairly comfortable in my presence.

She doesn't even act as a doctor anymore and I could see more and more of her true rotten personality. Dunno honestly how I should act.

I mean in the military I didn't interact with the woman too much.

The last time when I truly interacted with the opposite gender was at school. So yeah, I don't even know how to act as a girl now, besides I don't even want to pretend to be girly.

I guess I should just be myself for now. My meeting with Kete's true life will not come so soon, anyways.

I turned silent after her words and just ate silently.

When the plate was half full, I thought it was enough.

"I'm not gonna eat anymore"

I said crossing my arms.

"Why"

She said sounding confused by a sudden change in my demeanor.

"I don't want anymore. I will not even eat it if you tried to force it down my throat.

Suddenly eating something in a long while. Seems to make my stomach upset. So currently, I was trying not to throw up.

She looked at me, her gaze softened.

"I know that it's maybe not the best food you ate in your life but it's good for your recovery. So eat just a little ok?"

I looked at her. Clearly not willing.

This made her sigh. Putting a plate on the table nearby and taking a cup that was there.

"Drink this at least"

She said handing me the cup.

This I can do. But as I started drinking. So bitter...

I coughed a couple of times.

Alice was just to speak to me when in another gulp, I finished it all.

"Here"

She said handing me a glass of normal water. I drank it instantly to get this horrible taste from my mouth.

"I hope, I didn't drink some kind of poison become if I didn't it surely tested like that."

I said jokingly.

She smiled amused by my behavior.

"I can guarantee you that was just not the best-tasting medicine"

"Not best? It was horrible."

This made us chuckle a little until her smartwatch started vibrating.

"Sorry I have to go, if you need me just call"

She said taking a plate and 2 cups with her. Opening a door with an arm and going somewhere in the rushed steps.

Honestly, I was tempted to thought what I would do to her when I will be finally healthy for all embarrassment she pulled me through today.

But I don't know maybe I'm kind of forgetful but I don't feel like doing it anymore...

'So it's a TV then?' I don't have anything else to do and I'm still not sleepy.

I am really impressed with the technological advancements in this world. I mean it's nothing new. In my world, it was possible too. But making it easily accessible and universal is another thing.

After an hour, I became a little drowsy and decided to sleep. But unfortunately, my bladder has another opinion. I tried to ignore it.

But it seems to be impossible in this state so I had to get up and walk to the bathroom. Even though I felt too lazy to do that.

Placing my feet on the ground I stood up, almost without support, and slowly made my way to my goal. In a couple of days, I already got used to this.

I didn't feel as weak as before so it was even easier. But I still use sometimes furniture as support. I don't want to risk it. So I'm playing safe.

But as I took just 2 steps. Someone opened a door. I don't know but I kinda feel that something like that would happen.

I looked at who that is and not unexpectedly Alice was standing there at the door. She really has the worst timing.

Seeing me out of the bed she run to me and unceremoniously took a hold of my waist.

"Where are you going?

She asked me surprised

"You shouldn't move too much..."

Her holding me like that helped me stabilize but...

'I don't need your help, I will do it myself, you are too clingy'

These were the thought that went past my mind when I looked into her eyes.

"I need to pee"

I said not bothered to cover it.

"Oh..Is that...I will help you.."

She said awkwardly surely not expecting my answer.

"You don't need to. I am feeling better. I can walk be myself."

I said this dead seriously. Actually, I even pushed myself a little away from her.

"If you are feeling better it should be fine..."

She said this not really looking at me. Did she just sound sad...even hurt?

No, I'm probably just tired and heard that wrong.

I just took a step. When a familiar light scent of perfumes assaulted my nose with the same hand on my waist, I stopped.

I looked at her who was ever tighter holding me now. Trying to desperately avoid eye contact with me. Too sleepy to argue I just let it go.Only this time...

I let myself be led. When we were finally at the door she let me go. But before I went inside, I have something to say.

"Now go out of the room."

I said nonchalantly

"Eee.. Why? I know that you didn't like.."

'Does she sound like crying?'

I didn't let her finish and just added.

"I can't do it if you are just behind a door, listening...Do you get me?"

I said this with a tangle of red on my cheeks.

Dunno but I am too anxious to do that in peace if there is another person in the cabinet near me or someone just behind a door. I was always like that.

Finally, in her eyes, I could see a hint of realization which made her back away to my bed.

"Further"

I said, so I could be completely sure.

I could see it in her eyes "Isn't that enough" but she still backed away to the exit doors but refused to go any further.

I guess that is enough...

So I opened a door and did what I had to do.

5 minutes later...

I exited the toilet. Seeing her still standing at the door, even when I exited the restroom. Not moving, I became a little perplexed.

I guess I was too mean to her...

"Come here"

I looked at her and said in a softer voice.

She hesitated but still came to me. Sanding at an appropriate distance from me. Looking at her now trying to create a distance between us.

I don't know but that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

"Are you going to stand there or are you going to help me?"

I said trying to fake my confusion.

"I can help if you want..."

She said finally looking at me. But still unsure what to do.

I tried to take a step. She saw my action and instantly went to my side.

Embracing my waist.

I thought and did the same to her. Embracing her waist... for support obviously.

That made her surprised and stare at me.

I raised one of my eyebrows and said.

"What?"

She looked at me with a complicated expression on her face but soon turned her gaze down.

She said unconsciously tightening her hold on my waist. We took a couple of steps but I had to stop because she was holding me too tight.

"Alice you are holding me too tight"

I said little helpless

"Do I? Mmmm... sorry is that better?"

Now she wasn't holding me at all.

"I'm not made from porcelain you can hold me a little tighter you know?"

"just don't go overboard and I will be fine."

I said with a smile. Little entertained by her behavior.

"Okey...sorry I mean is that okay now?"

"Yes, now it's perfect"

I can't help myself but want to tease her when she is so flustered.

Like a shark that just sensed blood in the water. It's irresistible.

Finally, near the bed, I lay down on it.

"If that's all I will be going"

She placed her hands behind her back and bit awkwardly turned away from me, not really waiting for my response.

But as she did that I caught one of her sleeves. Which forced her to stop.

With hidden amusement in my eyes, I said.

"Kate"

"What?"

"My name, you should use it next time"

We are not on a first-name basis so this is kind of a big move from me.

After saying these words I let her go. But I didn't cease our eye contact. I kind of wanted to communicate that I really mean it.

"I will remember"

After seeing this she moved swiftly out of the room like something was chasing her.

After the door closed behind her.

I collapsed on my bed. Feeling drained and wanting to sleep. Not really thinking that my actions could bring some unexpected consequences in the future...
