The next after waking up and having breakfast, I got ready for the journey back home. I was of course wearing casual clothes for the journey.

 

I say I got ready for the journey but it was in fact Cindy and the other maids and servants who got everything ready.

 

After waiting for sometime in the couch of the waiting of my dormitory, Cindy came and informed me that everything was ready and I got up and walked towards the carriage.

 

And, yes, my dormitory had it’s own waiting room. There were two carries waiting for me.

 

One contained the coat of arms of Ackerman Duchy, consisting of two eagles facing each other with a golden shield behind them. The other was an ordinary carriage.

 

The carriage with the Duchy’s coat of arms was where I would travel, the other one was for luggage. I also had some knights of our Duchy accompany me in horseback.

 

They also came with me when I first journeyed to the academy, as an heir of a Duke cannot travel without security. They mostly stayed in the dormitory servants’ quarters during my stay at the academy.

 

Before boarding the carriage, whose door was held open by Cindy, I turned and looked back at the academy once more.

 

Things have been quite hectic since my reincarnation, so I just took a look in a clear mind and admired the view.

 

Cindy asked, “Young master?”. I shook my head and said, “Nothing.”, and got on the carriage.

 

Cindy got in after me and closed the door. Then she signaled to start the carriage.

 

As we were moving, I looked out of the window, taking in the view.

 

After we exited the gates of the academy, I was able to see the outside world for the first time, after reincarnation.

 

We were in the capital city of the empire called Acropolis. Streets were paved and well maintained. The houses were well built and maintained too, sometimes two or three stories.

 

As, we were going, I saw a street diverging from the main street, which was filled with luxurious looking mansions. They were probably the mansions of the nobles in the city.

 

The streets were bustling with people going about their daily business, there were some vendors, here and there. There were some shops with open windows and so I could inside them, they were confectioneries, cake shops, restaurants, etc.

 

The streets were relatively devoid of carriages as we decided to leave early in the morning to avoid the rush of other students returning home.

 

So, we could pass smoothly.

 

During this time, I decided to reflect on the last days, that is the days after I became David Ackerman.

 

I didn’t have much time to think about my situation as I had a lot of things to take care of.

 

My previous life, huh? It’s true that I died and have no way at getting back and I don’t have any regrets, but it still feels weird suddenly reincarnating in a novel world.

 

Back in my previous life, I had to do a lot of part time jobs to take care of my school and personal expenses as the orphanage didn’t provide much support.

 

However, I don’t hate them, they were kind and took carte of us and provided us with 3 meals a day, I am grateful for that.  Also, I had a good relationship with my mates at the orphanage and we played and hung out together like family.

 

Now, I did a lot of part time jobs, like working as a cashier in a convenience store, serving as a waiter in a restaurant, stock checking in a warehouse etc.

Due to this, other than the requirements, I was also able to afford my hobbies and hence I was able to read this novel. I worked 5 days a week after school.

 

I was also able to learn accounting and was able to see a lot of people, hence I was also able to become a good judge of character.

 

I had to do with studying in the little spare time I had. Hence, I wasn’t able to get a good result but was barely able to pass.

 

But I don’t regret doing that as I gained experience from it and able to pursue my hobby.

 

My life was, at the very least satisfying to me.

 

Suddenly the carriage stopped and Cindy said, “Young master, we are entering the warp gate.”.

 

This jerked me awake from my thoughts, I looked out of the window and saw our carriage standing in front of a structure which was created on one side of the road. It was an open air structure which had an arched gate made of stone with intricate runes written on it, and was guarded by imperial soldiers.

 

A bit away from the arched gate, separated by paved stone steps was another similar gate, however that had a wormhole like structure in it. That was the warp gate.

 

It can be used to teleport to long distances instantly. It helps avoid dangers in the road.

 

This was located, almost at the end of the capital city.

 

It requires a certain fee to use, as well as identification. One of my guards went to the soldiers and handed them 30 gold coins, after which we were allowed inside. Identification wasn’t required as the Duke’s emblem was on my carriage.

 

The pathway was wide enough for the carriages to go through. There were walls on the other three sides of the structure and even behind the warp gate.

 

Everything except for the wormhole was white in colour.

 

There was a man sitting with a small glass orb, mounted on a small platform. You have to give your coordinates to the man and he will add them to the orb with magic.

 

Then you can use the warp gate to go to your destination. One of our guards gave the coordinates to the man.

 

After conforming we travelled through the gate. Now, if you travel through the gate, you will have nausea and may even vomit.

 

You can get used to it, after using many times. But, since it was the first time for me, I wasn’t really sure, even though the original owner of the body did it countless times.

 

I braced myself and close my eyes, and for a few seconds, I felt nausea and almost vomited but held myself.

 

But after the seconds passed, I felt better again and as I opened by eyes, I was greeted by a small town with small and simple houses. We were also in a similar structure as in the capital, however this time, it was guarded by my family’s guards.

 

They bowed to us as we left the platform. This town in which I arrived in a border town of the Ackerman Duchy. It’s name is Rosewell.

 

The reason why the warp gate is not located in the Duchy’s capital is that this was built during the foundation of the empire and at that time, Rosewell was the capital of the duchy but later it was removed to the new capital of Arkville, to which we are headed.

 

The journey will still take some time and will involve travelling in open roads which can be dangerous, so we have to be careful.

 

 We didn’t rest as we have barely travelled since the capital, we decided to rest upon arriving at the Duchy.
