The man who hired him, a member of the adventurers’ party, scolds and kicks Cyclo as he walks with the adventurers’ luggage.
Cyclo grunts in pain, but carries his luggage without complaint.
“Sheesh, you skinny son of a bitch. You can’t even carry a luggage, you’re even more incompetent than the rumors say.”
“I agree with you. I don’t even know if this guy is being useful when he’s sent out to help.”
“That’s true. Hey, you heard that, waste! Walk faster!!”
Despite being told all of those things, Cyclo silently complies. With a heavy pack on his back, he gathers his strength and picks up the pace of his walk.
How did I end up in this situation? — Cyclo was thinking back to the day right after he arrived in the northern frontier of North Folia.
Over the course of several weeks, Cyclo was sent to North Folia as a criminal slave.
He was dragged straight to the Adventurers’ Guild, where he was handed over as if he were an object.
“This is a sudden replenishment, but did something happen in the royal capital?”
“He committed quite a few crimes, it seems. There was some pressure from the church and others, and they wanted to bring him to justice as soon as possible.”
“I see.”
Such a conversation took place between a man from the Adventurers’ Guild and a knight from the Royal Capital.
The man from the guild then turned his attention to Cyclo.
“You, what’s your name?”
“…… Cyclo. Cyclo Owen.”
“Owen? Where have I heard that name before …… Don’t tell me!?”
As soon as he hears Cyclo’s name, the man leaves the place in a hurry.
Then, a short time later, he returns to this place with another man.
“I am the Guildmaster of North Foria’s Adventurers’ Guild. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
The man brought in identifies himself as the guild master and speaks as if he knows about Cyclo.
“…… Do you know me?”
“Yeah. She’s famous, after all, your sister. Alice Owen …… One of the greatest adventurers, a rare Great Sage.”
Hearing these words, a slightly optimistic imagination came to Cyclo.
Maybe – just maybe – he would be treated a little better because he was a relative of Alice’s.
It was a pathetic story, but even so, Cyclo could not help but put his trust in such a possibility.
However, the guild master replied with words that were the exact opposite of what Cyclo had imagined.
“You’re famous among adventurers, you know. That the great sage Alice Owen has an incompetent, incorrigible scum of a brother.”
“…… Huh?”
“The Great Sage himself has spoken of it many times. His brother, Cyclo Owen, is an incompetent man who is always under her care and can’t do his job very well.”
Cyclo did not understand the words as quickly as they came.
Why was he being spoken so ill of by Alice? He could not understand it and could only be stunned.
“…… Be prepared. We are very strict with scum like you, especially those who cause trouble for fellow adventurers. Expect the worst treatment.”
Even after hearing these words from the guild master, which sounded like a death sentence, Cyclo was still unable to comprehend his situation.
