The black abyss was there. Not as a void, but a lake of darkness. The tracks slowly lowered deeper into the shadows, while the train followed suit. Kano didn't know what to do. The train shuddered. Shin'u frantically searched for an exit.
"Shin'u! Up there!" Tou Han pointed to the emergency roof hatch above. The two of them grabbed onto the latch. Pushing with all their might, Shin'u turned his head towards Kano.
"Help us! We're about to fall into Buddha-knows-what!" He urged over the sound of hissing metal.
"..."
The hatch gave way and swung open. The train tilted downwards, as it started to derail. Tou Han climbed out first, while Shin'u stayed. Kano's legs felt weak. She laid frozen as the train shook. Kano thought it was her fault she met them. She thought it was her fault that the train was falling.
"Kano!" Shin'u called her by her given name. He walked up to her, holding both his erhu and her phone. He took Kano's hand and placed her phone. "It's dangerous to stay here."
"No..." She declined, her voice was unsteady, "I'm the reason why you're in danger. You and Uncle Tou must go."
"You said that we were placed here for a reason. And that reason is to be saved by you," He said brazenly. Shin'u lightly held her hand as he positioned her at the emergency exit. Tou Han was on standby, and pulled the two onto the roof of the train. Outside, the sky mixed with blue and black. The train shook again, causing them to stumble.
"Let's jump onto the tracks," Tou Han suggested, his tie fluttering. "It's the only way."
"Not until she comes with us," Shin'u exclaimed. Kano was resisting.
"Please don't," She begged them, "I couldn't do anything."
"When you told me about that scenario, I was surprised you forced me to be myself. You didn't judge me."
"But I'm a narcissist... I only said that to make you feel better, only to maybe hurt you..."
"That online article on your phone," He pointed out, "I don't know whoever told you that's what you are, but they're lying. Don't believe the label they gave you."

They were at such a steep angle they began to slide. Tou Han from above locked hands with Shin'u.
"I'm a bad man. The past can never be remedied. All I've ever done was run away," Tou Han shouted to her, in which she looked up. The abyss swallowed the bottom half of the train.
"I don't know your pains, and I didn't understand your situation. I have no empathy!..." Kano responded back with conviction, with water in her eyes. She held onto the hatch door for dear life.
"No, young Kano. The moment I was vulnerable was the moment I began to have an indescribable hope."
"..."
Tou reached for the side of the train, which was already almost horizontal. His parents' will and the erhu started to glow with such intensity. Staring at them, tears streamed down her face. Just as when she thought she was going to vanish, a 'light' called Ka Shin'u held a hand out to her.
"You've just improved the two of us for the greater good, and now it's time we help you. Whether in Nihon or Morokoshi. So let's go, let's become a hero!"
Her eyes widened. The minute the train fell into the darkness, Kano deep down didn't want to despair. She held onto the light. Clasping his hand, the loose strings intertwined over and over. They overflowed that they knotted together. Shin'u pulled her close, while Tou Han pulled the three of them onto the railroad. Her phone shone brightly in the dusk, along with the other items. She had been looked down upon, endured, and survived it all. But she wanted to grab ahold of 'now'.
The train disappeared as they stood on the tracks. Stillness came forth. After the storm, would come a rainbow. In the abyss, the golden sky appeared above them, as if Buddha celebrated their tribulations. The three of them looked upwards, into the blinding light. It was time they returned home.
"I will play the erhu to you guys in the real world someday," Shin'u promised, while they grouped together.
"I'll probably go to jail, but it's what I need to do to change the future," Tou added on, rubbing his head.
"..." For the last time in the strange dimension, Kano said a few words. "Thank you."
