Chapter 5: Chap 5 – Cold War

Emma joined the party to keep her brother safe from the twins.

Adriel felt a chill run down his spine as he watched Emma dance.

"Why did she do this? I wondered," he thought.

Suddenly, Emma stopped dancing and walked straight toward the twins.

Albert's eyes widened, and he looked between the two sisters.

"Don't worry, Adriel," Nuile said as she entered the hall. I've been looking forward to this all week."

Adriel shot Nuile a questioning glance. The younger sister smiled sweetly.

"You two look so cute together."

Adriel didn't understand why they were smiling at each other. He turned to Nuile.

"We have something to discuss privately," said Emily. "Will you excuse us?"

He nodded.

The twin sisters moved away and began whispering.

Because Adriel's goal was to be popular, the girls made a pact not to flirt with him; they didn't want to show him that he was already popular and attract more competitors.

But as soon as Adriel stopped believing he could make a dream come true, one part of the pact came undone, leaving only cooperation to keep him out of the magical world and mutual help to ward off more competitors.

"We have to deal with Emma soon," said Emily.

"Emma isn't the type to back down easily," said Nuile.

"But we can't let her win."

"Of course not. We simply need to distract her while we prepare."

"Exactly."

"What exactly do you mean by that?"

"Mere seconds separate us from victory," Emily answered. "There's nothing else to say."

Nuile nodded.

The twins continued whispering.

"Emma is just a child."

"True, but she has her uses."

"She could be dangerous."

"But we have her secret in hand; if something happens, we'll tell you how she was adopted."

Emily was the twins' strategist, while Nuile was the brute force.

Emily had the secret of all the girls around Adriel, including her sister. That was what the twins referred to when they talked about "having Emma in hand."

"But we don't know how far she'll go to stop us from getting to Adriel."

"Emma is fearless."

"Even though she's not much older than us,"

"And we have to realize that she might attack."

"Or even kill."

"So we must make sure that she doesn't succeed."

"It will be difficult."

"Yes, but possible."

The girls looked at each other for a moment.

"Enough talk. Let's prepare."

The twins left the room, leaving Adriel behind.

Nuile would be in charge of distracting Emma, and Emily would try to move forward with the relationship with Adriel.

The plan depended on how Nuile would use magic without Adriel knowing. If she failed, she would alert all the girls, especially Elizabeth.

"How are you today?" Adriel asked.

"Fine, thank you," Emily answered.

Nuile asked Emma to dance, and Emily invited Adriel to sit with her.

Emma quickly saw through the twins' plan and knew she must get rid of Nuile quickly.

Nuile started dancing with Emma, using magic to make her stronger. Emma tried to find a way to get away, while Nuile danced with her.

"That wasn't the deal, Nuile; we were going to move forward together," said Emma.

"You think we don't know about the park visit?" Nuile replied.

"Tsk."

Emma knew she had to end the dance before Emily reached her goal, so she started to push Nueli.

"You won't get off that easy, Emma."

"If you don't want him to find out about your magic, suppress it," said Nuile.

Emma made another attempt to escape.

"Now I must hurry, or I won't beat her," thought Nuile.

Nuile used magic to make Emma's arm numb.

"Oh!" said Emma, surprised. She couldn't feel her fingers.

"What happened to my arm?"

"Just relax," said Nuile.

But Emma realized there was no way she could stay in control after being paralyzed.

Nuile pulled Emma into a hug and whispered in her ear, "He's ours now."

Emma felt as if she were encased in ice. Her heart pounded.

Nuile pushed a few strands of hair from Emma's face. "He'll forget all about you once he has us."

"I can't believe this."

"Don't worry. You've done enough damage to our plan."

Emma's eyes widened.

She broke the spell by using her magic knowledge.

Emma quickly went to where Adriel was and then ended the party.
