Chapter 30: Into the action(1)

A week slowly passed. I went to Air Temple Island since I didn't have any new orders and I was stuck at improving my gear so I thought it would be a good time to relax and spend some time helping Pema and the air acolytes.

I didn't see Korra there, she was probably training with Tenzin so I didn't bother to find her. That afternoon I had lunch with Tenzin and his family.

I could see that Tenzin was fuming and I asked him what was the problem. He told me that he was teaching the avatar air bending and she was being difficult. He kept telling me how much of a muscle head she was. It was nice seeing him so invested in this.

"Well, it seems that the problem is with both your method of teaching and the avatar impatiens."

"What do you mean by that?!"

"There is no need to get mad. Just hear me out first and then tell me what you think is wrong about the statement. Firstly you told me that Korra is very good at bending the other elements and that she is a very proficient fighter. Am I right till now?"

"Yes, you are. But what does this have to do with anything."

"I'm getting there. As a fighter one does not need to be a spiritual person, one simply needs to be proficient in bending. Here comes the first problem. The avatar might be a good fighter but that doesn't mean she is a very spiritual person. From what you described she seem that the only thing she is interested in is to learn air bending to fight.

Of course, it was easy for her to learn the other bending styles. Over the years, the other bending styles started to lose their art and spiritual aspect and became more simple to learn. The reason for it is industrialization. In order to be able to be called a bending master in the past, you needed years of training, now people don't have that time to learn the proper way.

They need to put food on the table so of course, they try to learn as fast as possible and teach their children as fast as possible. Why would you hire a bender that isn't proficient in bending when you could hire a non-bender with less money and less hassle to do the same thing.

In order for the bending style to become more simple some parts needed to be taken out and since the spiritual aspect doesn't have any usefulness in the society we live in, it was obvious the part to be abolished. Where air bending doesn't have this problem. Since there are so few air benders there is no industrial application or problem with employment so the need to change from the old ways is almost nonexistent.

I take a pause to see if he still listens to me and say.

"If both of you could compromise things would go better. You can try to teach more practical things alongside spiritual one, and she can try to understand your point of view. But none of this will happen if you don't make the first step because she surely will not. Since your the master you need to have a conversation with her and tell her that you'll meet her halfway but she needs to try as well."

"You're right Ethan. I don't tell you often enough but your wisdom is beyond your age."

"Thank you for the compliment."

I take my leave and I go to take Nya from work. I saved up enough money to make myself a motorcycle so when I went to take Nya from work I wouldn't need to pay somebody to take us or take the bus. The motorcycle didn't look like the standard one that Future Industries sold. It looked like a sports model from my original world, I modeled it after a Ducati Panigale, the only difference was that it was a bit bigger than the original since I made a secret compartment where I kept the new suit Wu gave me, the old one was still at home.

The motorcycle was pretty hard to build. Since I wasn't that big of a gear head in my last life there were details about the motor I didn't know and I needed to reinvent the things I need. Nya helped me acquire the parts I needed and I couldn't get alone.  All in all, it was a work of art, a beast that could move at 250 kph. She was very impressed with the end result and wanted one herself. I'm currently building one in secret as a birthday gift.

I arrived in front of the factory where she was waiting for me. She looked gorgeous in the blue dress that she was wearing, then again she looks gorgeous in anything. I take her and we head to the arena to see the Mako's and Bolin's pro-bending match.
