Chapter 8: Chapter 8 – how does one use magic?

The sun shines through the window slightly illuminating the room.

A Shaman who is slightly drooling has a small wolf laying on top of her face covering her eyes.

Shaman wakes up sitting up instantly letting Wolfy who was peacefully sleeping fall from her face and lands on her lap. Despite the fall it still lays there on its back unaffected by what happened.

*YAWN* Shaman lets out some stretches letting out small moans.

'I don't think I have slept that well since coming to this world, Although its only been like 2 or 3 days it has already felt like I have lived here for years. Well I guess if I take into account the fact that I merged with another person's memories I guess I really have lived here for years.'

Shaman slightly pats Wolfy causing him to wake up.

"Rise and shine cutie we got some hunting to do." Shaman pinches Wolfy cheeks despite Wolfy attempts to avoid her hands he was not able to escape.

"woof~" Wolfy lets out a small howl in response.

"okay let's get washed up and dressed and we will make our way back to the forest." Shaman gets up from bed and gets ready to leave.

"Sir we have got another batch of young ladies ready for the sacrifice, we only need a few sets then we can begin the ritual." A man in robes who looks like a fossil presents 10 women cuffed and not in good condition.

"Well done, it is only a matter of time till we will be able to set up an anchor." A figure who is too hard to make out in the dark room scans the women to make sure there are no problems then he notices one who looks a little different.

"Hmmm, keep the one on the far right alive till the sacrifice, she might be useful." The man picks out a black haired Fox girl who still had life in her eyes unlike the other girls in the room.

"As you wish sir." The old man bows and exits the room pulling on the chain to get the girls moving and exits the room.

Shaman sets out with Wolfy, who decided the top of Shaman's head was the most comfortable spot. She did not mind this and continued on with a cheery smile.

This time Shaman decided to buy a map from the guild house instead of some Shady stall. She also inquires about where she can buy any books about magic theory.

The reception lady pointed her to the direction of the magic shop and set off to buy some books.

Shaman arrives at the magic shop which looks a little too shabby to be one but still enters it anyway, since it was recommended by the guild there should be no problems.

Shaman walks up to the counter to see an old lady reading a book of sorts. The old lady notices Shaman and waves at her to come over.

"What can I get a young lass like you?" the Old lady spoke in a croaky voice.

"I'm looking for books on Basic magic, so any books on magic theory will do."

"oh we have plenty of those, just head to the back right corner on the 3rd shelf should be books on magic theory." The old lady points to a corner of a shop.

"Thank you." Shaman walks off to the shelf to look at the books.

'Hmm this seems to be too accessible. It is either hard to learn or only advanced books that teach higher tier magic are only available for higher ups, But who says I can't self teach surely I can master the elements without some fancy book.'  Shaman then picks out some books that seem relevant, she then heads back to the old lady.

"I'll take these." Shaman presents the few books she got from the shelf.

"Alright sweetie, that will be 1 gold coin."

Shaman froze a little at the price but still reluctantly handed over the gold.

"A-alright  I'll see you later." Shaman waves at the old lady and exits the shop, the old lady smiles and waves back.

'No wonder people don't buy basic books, you have to be at least a decent adventurer to provide for yourself and spend it on books.'

Shaman puts the books in her inventory an head's to towards the forest again.

While on the way to the forest Shaman decides to start reading some of the books to understand the concept of magic.

Too her surprise a system message pops up

Shaman's eyes almost popped out of head , nearly making Wolfy fall off her head.

"YES!"

'oh I wish you were with me in my own world. You are literally the definition of a cheat and it would make me the smartest person in the world and all I would have to do is just pick up the book then bam knowledge.' Shaman lamented this fact as all that studying could have been done in a flash without ever needing to open the book.

Shaman quickly does this with the other books and with her new found knowledge, it also opened up some more memories and they seemed magic related.

'Huh look, by learning what this previous body has learnt I will be able to uncover what she had done.' Shaman then looks through the memories and to get a grasp of how it is done.

'hmm seems like the only thing I can do is practice now.' Shaman continues her journey to the forest thinking about how to go about using her magic.

From what she has learnt, magic uses mana which is a separate energy in the air. Just like oxygen it floats around and they each have different properties like the colour which represent their element. People within this world are able to control those particles to form an element and depending where you are the effectiveness of said element is affected, so using water near lava would be impossible unless you are a tier 6 an above or you won't be able to freely use magic.

The reason for this is that each person has a core within themselves that stores the different elements in them but is too small to be able to form the elements without the outside source. This can be trained and achieved at a lower tier but is extremely hard and is better to get to tier 6 than train it.

She also learnt that people go through evolutions and does not usually happen till they are over 18 years old as that's the time that they are killing monsters. Shaman found this fact interesting and was wondering if everyone had a system but hers was visible and this could explain why people were so weak at her rank as she was able to power up certain stats and does not need to train to use a skill.  this also raised another question: if she reaches a certain level can she evolve?

'Only one way to find out and that's to level up some more!' After processing some of the information, newly lit inspiration sprung on her to level as much as possible on this trip.

Shaman arrives at the forest, she stands in front of a tree a few meters away and prepares herself to use magic.

"Alright let's see how this goes." Shaman closes her eyes and concentrates on her core.

She is able to feel the core welling up inside her, the same feeling she had when using sword dash and slash. Shaman continues her concentration and feels the energy around her to swirl around her hand. She then pictures the green particles around her and tries to harness the wind element. After gathering the ambient mana when she opened her eyes she found a little tornado in her hands.

"YES!!" Shaman jumps up in excitement making Wolfy who was peacefully chilling on her head suddenly fly off and gets woken up in a shock. Wolfy managed to land safely.

"Sorry Wolfy." Shaman gets rid of the small tornado and pats Wolfy as an apology but before she could even pat him, he just jumps back on her head.

"I guess it just loves to sleep, well at least it is not mad at me." Then a system message pops up

'I love this system, it's like everything is easy mode when it comes to doing anything related to magic and fighting.' Shamans eyes were sparkling as she finally was able to use an element.

Little did she know what she had done was a feat that very few people could do at her age and status and will be regarded as a genius.

Shaman plays around with the wind, she was able to pick up small things and even Wolfy with the wind. After freely using it she tries to form a blade of sorts to try to create her own skill.

After making the typical arc shape she threw the wind towards the tree and to her surprise it cut the wood then a system message came.

[compatible with Sword dash and Slash but will cost an extra 10 MP]

[coats the weapon in wind and upon execution of the skill it will send out a slash alongside with the blade.]
