The next day Okabe came to pick me up with her grandmother. That caused quite a commotion at the orphanage since her grandmother was one of the sponsors of the orphanage.
The matron agreed for me to go to my friend’s house on the account that they will return me by the normal curfew time. The matron seemed rather happy that I managed to acquire a friend, or it can be that Okabe’s grandmother brought gifts for all the kids in the orphanage, or it can be both.
When we were going to Okabe’s house, I was rather excited.
It was not my first time riding this car, since Okabe would occasionally let me ride it with her. But it was my first time going to her house.
On the way to her house, Okabe started talking to me.
“You asked what my quirk was right?”
I was surprised, whenever I brought up this question, she would avoid this question. So, I didn’t ask her that since I knew Okabe was not comfortable with this question.
So, when Okabe asked me this question, I looked at her curiously and spoke.
“Yes.”- when I answered her question, I could see Okabe’s grandmother looking at her worriedly.
With a determined expression on her face, Okabe said.
“I can manipulate the blood of mine or others.”
I was surprised, it was a rather unique power.
Okabe didn’t stop there and started talking again.
“It was a quirk that was not welcomed by everyone.”
“So, I always tried to hide my quirk Infront of others, always avoiding this question.”
“I was always careful not to reveal it to anyone. But three years ago, when my friend accidentally cut her hand in the science lab. Blood started flowing like a fountain. I was startled and my quirk got activated on its own, all of her blood started flowing toward me, revolving around me.”
I could see her hands trembling, from that alone I could see the courage she put into talking about her quirk to me. She continued,
“But before all of her blood flowed out, our homeroom teacher was able to snap me out of my daze.”
“When my quirk deactivated all the blood floating around me splattered around the lab. It was a horrifying scene. My friend was quickly taken to the hospital. She had severe blood loss since my quirk accelerated her bleeding.”
“Ever since that day, everyone looked at me differently. Even my teachers were looking at me as if seeing a monster.”
“But no one said anything.”
Saying this, the trembling of her hand stopped.
She looked at me trying to read my facial expression. She couldn’t see anything though since my face was covered in fur. I never minded showing her my face.
After a moment of silence, she said;
“Then, my parents changed my school seeing that I couldn’t keep going to that school.”
“I was very afraid to get too close to people, so I always kept them at a distance.”
“That was until I met you.”
She looked at me,
“Getting beaten up in the hallway, I only wanted to help you momentarily, but you got me curious...”
She trailed off looking at me, waiting for me to speak.
I didn’t know what to say. I know all too well about the pain of your friends looking at you with horrified expressions. It always stings my heart when I remember my best friend’s horrified look.
So, I kept my mouth shut, and that was not the outcome my friend was hoping for.
She looked ahead, and let out a sigh.
But before I could say anything we reached her house.
She took me around her house, which was even bigger than our entire orphanage, excitedly as if nothing happened in the car.
Before long she stopped in a spacious room with a high ceiling.
She looked at me with a serious expression on her face and spoke,
“After that incident at school, I started actively training my ability to not let anything like that time, happen anymore.”
She gestured to a maid standing by and the maid brought a bag of blood. Okabe took it to her hand and made a hole in the bag using a pocket knife the maid gave her.
The blood from the bag started pouring on the floor.
Then I saw it, I saw Okabe’s purple eyes turning red, and all the blood spilled on the floor, the blood in the bag, all of it started flowing around Okabe like a river, slowly she raised her hand. The blood all around started to form a sphere above her hand, taking different forms as she willed.
After that, the blood started flowing around her again. After a moment, it splashed across the floor.

To be honest it was not a neat display. When she saw the blood splashed across the floor, she had the urge to gag. But she held it in.
This was her only friend, so she had to hold it in. she understood what Okabe wanted her to see, what she wanted her to understand.
Okabe wanted me to see her quirk, she wanted me to see her ability and see my reaction. To see whether I will look at her in disgust, to see whether I will frown at her and avoid her after seeing her ability.
Okabe seemed rather flustered; she started stuttering, looking everywhere but at me.
“I-I just wanted t-to show y-y-you, my power. Nothing more. See, Yuna here will take you back home. I-I-I will see you tomorrow, y-yes tomorrow.”
She started to sound depressed while saying those things.
I didn’t say anything.
I just went ahead and hugged her, and said;
“You never looked down on me or frowned at me, you don’t have to worry about me looking at you in disgust, I’ve known what is to be frowned upon.”
Hearing me say that made her hug me back. I could hear a soft sniffling sound. But I didn’t say anything and hugged her tightly. Even though I was three years younger than her, my body size was just on par with hers.
After that our days were filled with happiness. She asked me to join in her quirk control training. I hesitated a bit at first but decided to get on with it. after two years of training, I was able to control my quirk and undo my transformation. If anyone asked me what was the happiest day in my life, I would without a doubt say it was that day when I was able to control my transformation.
After undoing my transformation my cat ears and tail remained but everything else went back to normal. I cried a lot back then and Okabe cheered me on.
After that, I became quite popular in the school, Okabe was already very popular with her looks, but now I became very popular because of my appearance of all things. The very thing that was cast upon me as a shadow all these years.
Then one day I was alone walking through a busy road. That’s when I saw a passer-by about to be hit by a villain driving recklessly while being chased. I wanted to help that grandma but I wasn’t fast enough. When I thought everything was over a man covered in green scales jumped in to save the grandma and capture the villain.
The hero looked like a standing crocodile more than anything else, but here he was showing his body proudly and helping those in need.
I started thinking about my transformed state. Ever since I became able to control my transformation, I’ve never used it again. That was when the first seed of becoming a righteous hero was planted in my heart.
Ever since that, I started actively searching for heroes and their great deeds. I started to admire them like any other student, all those times I always had to worry about my appearance and my loneliness. Now that I became very popular and had a very good friend, I had time to worry about more things.
I started training to become a hero. A great hero who will be able to give people hope.
Since then, it was very peaceful days. They were very pleasant days. I always hoped it would always remain like that.
But as if the world didn’t want that, Okabe’s parents died in an accident, and the plane they travelled on sank into the ocean. Okabe was devastated. She didn’t stay longer in Japan anymore and moved to America, where her grandparents lived.
After she was gone, I was devastated as well. I didn’t know what to do anymore. We always stayed in contact but that doesn’t compare to being able to talk face-to-face.
After that, years went by and our contact got shorter and shorter. I got busy with my hero studies at Shiketsu academy and there came a point where we no longer maintained a connection.
After that, I got an internship in a rather well-operated hero agency. And after my studies, I got established as a proper pro hero.
I contacted Okabe to celebrate getting my hero license. And I heard from her that she found a boyfriend abroad, who was also Japanese.
After that, it was my time to shine as a hero. For three years I was the hot topic among the rankers since I was raising in ranks at a ridiculous speed.
That was until a fateful, the day that I tasted despair. The day I realized what a madman with power can do. The day that I tasted my utter powerlessness.
That day I lost my sidekick to a villain, that was also a serial killer. He immobilized me and made me watch as he tore through my sidekick limp to limp.
I was forced to watch as that madman dragged the bystanders into it and started killing them, I was thoroughly paralyzed that I wasn’t even able to take my eyes off that horrible scene.
I can still hear the sound of flesh tearing and the sound of my sidekick crying out loud.
I could hear her begging to be killed. I could hear the caught bystanders begging to be left alone.
All might was able to come by and capture the villain before he escaped. But the captured bystanders still got killed.
I was devastated that day, I quit my pro-hero job and had to go through a lot of counseling sessions to get myself out of that pit of despair.
By the time I was able to get myself back, I was about to go broke financially. Since I donated most of my salary to the orphanage, I only kept what is minimum for my needs and small savings.
I was about to look for a job online when I heard a knock on my apartment door.
When I opened my apartment door what greeted me was a beautiful woman in her late twenties with white hair and purple eyes. Okabe, she came looking for me. I couldn’t say anything as she suddenly hugged me. I hugged her back and started sniffling and slowly started crying in the arms of my friend letting it all out. She sat me on the couch and listen to me saying things through the muffled sentence. We chatted for a long time and I was able to calm down.
Hearing about my situation she offered me a job. It was to be a babysitter and bodyguard to her son.
She was married, I was also invited but I couldn’t attend her wedding because of my hero matters. And I knew she also had a son.
After contemplating for a bit, I agreed.
What could go wrong, I only have to babysit a little kid. No?
