I started working in my friend’s residence in the Aichi prefecture. I got to meet her husband.

Taiga Toda. From our conversation, I could see that he was an excellent husband. Always having a calm smile on his face. He was a loving husband and also a doting father.

But whenever I see his calm smile. I always get chills down my spine. I didn’t know whether it was my trauma acting up or my hero intuition. But I always had a bad feeling.

But after a while of knowing him, I discarded that thought. He was a kind man; he was overly kind. He always had that kind smile plastered on his face. Whatever the situation that smile never faltered. Yeah, that was his smile, I couldn’t see any other emotions on his face. That was kind of creepy in my opinion.

Anyway, their son, Aito Toda, when I first saw him, he was only two years old. He had his mother’s white hair and his father’s deep blue oceanic eyes. I saw him looking at me from his father’s shoulders, with wide curious eyes. But after inspecting me head to toe he lost interest.

I didn’t know how to describe that he looked as if he had no interest in me whatsoever.

After that, he introduced himself to me. He got out of his father’s hold and introduced himself to me in a gentlemanly way. For a two-year-old his speech was excellent.

I became his babysitter and started teaching him stuff. He was like a sponge absorbing water, he absorbed everything I presented him and it looked like he didn’t have any interest in any of the stuff I taught him at all.

He was never a stubborn type and he never cried all the while I worked as his babysitter, if he had any needs, he will try to do it by himself and if he couldn’t he will call me.

He always liked neat and tidy stuff and he always tried to carry himself as a noble gentleman. Needless to say, he was cute. A three-year-old boy trying to look neat, coupled with his cute face, it was the epitome of cuteness.

He never liked people calling him cute. But he always had a smug expression on his face, when his mother would compliment him for looking like a proper gentleman.

He had a special collection of neat outfits that he himself picked. I always tweeted his pics in different outfits on Twitter and my follower count increased more than when I was a pro hero.

He always enjoyed going to the park and sitting on the bench, enjoying the cool scenery or browsing in his tab. He always had a liking for heroes.

He never cried and he never got into any disagreements with his parents. But when he was asked to join playschool, he promptly disagreed. Saying that the snot-nosed brats can’t even properly communicate. His mother finally got him to attend the first day of school, but his expression the same day evening can only be described as unsightly, that day he cried saying he won’t attend play school with those brats. After a while, his parents agreed to his reasoning and let him be homeschooled till elementary school.

I was worried he might develop social anxiety at this pace but, when attending social events with his parents he always had a calm confident smile just like his dad, and he always had a way with his words. It was like a veteran taking the lead in a conversation.

But from a grown-up’s point of view, he was just acting cute.

It was a day like any other, we were in a park sitting on either side of the bench.

Aito was browsing through the world’s history. He wore black short trousers and a white shirt, he looked extremely cute. Sitting in a straight posture, he had a calm smile on his face and a curious look in his wide eyes. I was in my usual maid outfit.

Some passersby can be seen taking a look at him and some can be seen trying to touch him but a glare from me was enough to scare them away. I was scrolling through some webtoon. And occasionally taking some pictures of him, while keeping an eye on him. There was also our escort and driver standing a little away from us. It was just a normal day.

Suddenly, I got a phone call it was an unknown number, I was a bit skeptical but I picked it up, and moved a little away from him. I could see him looking my way and quickly losing interest.

The caller said he was my diseased sidekick’s friend and started arguing with me, I was perplexed. I couldn’t think straight because of remembering the sight of that day, and all of a sudden, they started blaming me. I was confused and my mind went blank for a second. I lost sight of Aito for a second. Quickly coming out of my daze. I looked towards where he sat. All I could see was a tablet falling to the ground and its screen shattering.

I could see a blur zooming past the passerby and going towards a car with its door opened.

All my superhuman senses got activated, and the time around me slowed down.

My brain started quickly processing the information. The sight of my sidekick being torn to shreds started playing in my mind. Before I could think of anything, my body started moving on its own.

I entered my full transformation and started running on all fours toward the man running with Aito in his hands. He had a speed-type quirk so, he was really quick. But I could see his every movement, I could see his movement didn’t mean I could catch up to him in a movement. By the time I crossed halfway through, they already started the car with the young master in it, I could see him looking through the window towards me.

They started driving disregarding the traffic and citizens. Likewise, I started running behind them jumping over the cars, I ran at my full speed disregarding everything. But in my excitement, I didn’t see them firing bullets at me.

It hit me, I disregarded the pain and ran. It wasn’t a problem to me since my body had a regeneration factor far superior to humans.

But I could feel myself slowing down. It seemed like there was poison laced in the bullet. And there seemed to be something constantly trying to attack my mind.

I knew that feeling from when my mind got clouded over before.

I looked over to the car that was speeding ahead. I could see a faint silhouette of a man holding his head with both his hands looking at me.

I glared at him with the intention to murder him. That was all I could do before I fell and rolled on the ground losing consciousness. With my momentum, If I crash onto a car on the highway there was a high possibility that an accident would occur. But fortunately, our escort who caught up to me prevented any further damage from happening.

By the time I regained consciousness, what greeted me was Okabe’s calm face. Her usually light purple pupils were red and she was sitting on a chair next to me looking at me calmly. Whenever she talked with me, she always had cheerful look on her face. There was no such cheerfulness present on her face now, only extreme calmness. She opened her mouth to speak;

“There was some poison in your system but your regeneration factor was able to overcome them. You will be good for anything after a few minutes of resting.”

There was a slight chill to her tone,

“Tell, me everything that happened. EVERYTHING.”

“Yes”

There was a well-hidden spite to her voice, she had the right to. It was her precious son that had been kidnapped. Her precious son she entrusted me with.

I recounted to her everything that happened.

“I-I’m s-sorry.”-I said to Okabe. My voice was stuttering.

I was overwhelmed by guilt for not being able to protect him, I was once again reminded of my powerlessness. I started imagining all sorts of things they would do to him. I wanted to cry out loud. But I held it in, I had no right to cry in this situation. I had to find him.

Breaking me out of my inner conflict Okabe spoke.

“You worked hard.”-she said this with a calm face and stood up, walking out of the room.

She didn’t say anything else, she just walked out. She didn’t scold me, she didn’t get mad at me, and she didn’t strangle me.

If she did any of that I would’ve been fine. But she didn’t do any of that, I didn’t know whether to laugh at my pathetic self or cry out loud. In the end, I sat there still.

After a while, I walked out of the room and met with the driver.

He filled me in on the situation.
