The streets were filled with patrons and vendors.
There were people playing instruments and showing off their talents to get some donations from people passing by. The architecture was similar to that of Scofinia but the buildings weren’t destroyed. There were… dragons?! I stared at one in the sky. Wait no they were wyverns. They had 2 legs, and not 4. It was hard to see them properly from the ground. While I was staring at the skies to try more wyverns, I bumped into someone. I looked down to see a man with a snout?
“Hey, look where you are going!” He shouted at me.
“AH! I’m sorry.” I apologized and bowed a little.
He seemed to not care too much and kept on with his business. I looked around and finally noticed that some people had animal features. They had tails, animal-like ears and some even had wings like that of birds. Some seemed more animal-like than others.
“Kara, don’t try to stare too much.” Leanna warned me and I looked at her.
“We don’t have such people in my world so I was just surprised.” I replied and kept on walking.
Historia and Sasaki were back to being silent. I had to pretend we were married so I was holding Historia’s hand while Leanna was holding Sasaki’s hand. Part of the reason was to make sure they didn’t get lost in the crowd since it was the main market road and it was packed with people.
“Anyways, is there a term for people who have animal-like features?” I asked Leanna.
“Demi-humans. Some people call them beasts but that is offensive to them as it makes them look barbaric.” She whispered to me.
Ah, yes. Racism. How could I forget that? I can relate since I’m an Asian.
The main market sold many things. I could see fruit-like edibles, meat, clothes and toys as well. Most people were buying food. I looked at prices and for some reason I could read it.
“Is… 450 giz a lot for eggs?” I asked and Leanna looked at me surprised and then at the rate to check again.
“That is about 10 times as expensive as pre demon occupation.” She gulped at the price.
So it is hyperinflation. I think these people are hit economically by demon occupation of 1/3rd of the land.
In Australia, I remember it cost about 5 dollars so I wonder if there is a relation between this world’s prices and my world’s prices. So far it seems like there is a difference of 9-10 times.
“How much does apples cost?”
“Around 25 giz.” She replied again.
“And onions?”
“Same. About 25 giz. Depends on the weather though.”
So, I’ll just assume that the currency difference is 10 times for now.
On further inspection I could notice people being weak and unhealthy. Such hyperinflation would ruin anyone’s life who is not filthy rich. On map, Deem did have a considerable coastal region so hyperinflation of such an extent made little to no sense. I’m pretty sure they have better alternatives. Inflation was pretty much unavoidable but to such an extent. Is Mira stupid or greedy? I wonder.
I saw some people in the alleyways who were passed out. I felt bad for them but I can’t do much as of right now. Economics isn’t my strong point but I might be able to do something if I’m allowed to run the economy.
“Give this to me!” I heard someone say in one of the alleyways.
I turned around to see where it had come from and saw a man robbing a kid.
I rushed over to the kid and helped her stand up.
“Don’t touch her. She is my slave.” The guy was going to kick me but Leanna jumped in and punched him into a wall.
I dusted her clothes and noticed all the wounds on her body. It made me physically sick just thinking about what she had possibly gone through.
What can I do for this little girl? Getting rid of her ‘master’ would give her freedom but she can’t survive at such an age especially when the economy is crashing so fast. I can’t let her go with that man either. I can’t bring her with me either because I don’t have resources and I have too important of a job to do. I looked down at her and she was staring at the man with pure bloodlust in her eyes.
Interesting.
“Hey, how old are you?” I asked the little girl.
“I’m 10.” She replied and looked at me with confusion.
Too young to be a bodyguard for me but I think if she channels her bloodlust enough, she might become a strong soldier.
“What’s your name?”

“Alice.”
“Alice, what do you want right now?”
“I want that man to die.”
“Then do it.” I handed her a knife and told Leanna to stop holding the guy back.
“If you want something so badly then take it with your own hands. Take your freedom back from that man.” I said and waited for her reaction. She charged forward and stabbed him in the guts with a moment’s notice.
I gulped.
I didn’t expect such an immediate response. I was expecting at least a bit of hesitation but this was too comical but I can’t laugh.
I wonder if I have gotten used to murders.
“Sasaki, could you please heal him?” Sasaki obliged without saying anything. I don’t think murdering people in broad daylight would be a good idea.
“Then come with me, Alice.” I smiled and left the alleyway with Alice, Leanna, Historia and Sasaki.
I feel like Alice would make a fine bodyguard for me. I looked over at her and saw an immense amount of highly concentrated magic leaking from her. Why can I see such a thing? I don’t know but her magic seems too strong but she has never been taught how to use it.
I think with my knowledge she can quite easily surpass me and become as strong as The Grand Order but before that, I need to evaluate her on whether she is worthy of that knowledge or not.
“Kara, you do know that slavery is legal right?” Leanna asked me.
“I think so. Back in my world, slavery was legal too till some point. There are still many slaves in my home country. During occupation of this certain empire, they forced my countrymen into slavery and forced them to fight and develop their own nations. But it was outlawed after many efforts.” I replied.
I was thinking about Alice and how she almost killed the guy. It might seem extreme for a child and you can call me a monster but in the long term, this will help her. Sometimes peace can’t be achieved through talks. Plus this is medieval times when laws weren’t as humane as my world.
If I think too far ahead of this time then it’d be just me shooting myself in my foot.
I’m thinking of having her join the army but would it be able to cultivate her true strength?
“By the way, why are we bringing this child with us? Don’t tell me!... Kara, she is too young.” Leanna seemed disgusted by her own conclusion.
“I- shut up you disgusting pervert. I’m thinking of getting her trained to become a knight.” I answered Leanna.
The castle had come into our vision. It was grand. Its walls of the castle were made of white bricks and the roofs were shining gold. The castle seemed similar to French castles. I could see all the flags hanging from different windows and the outer bailey and the towers looked imposing too. It was obvious that breaking into that castle was next to impossible. The outer bailey was far too tall to climb. There was something majestic about the castle but had they sold those gold roofs and used normal brick roofs, they could’ve lowered the hyperinflation but who am I to say things, right.
The gate of the castle was at least 20 meters tall and 10 meters wide. I can understand the width but why is it so tall? Seems pointless. Maybe if they want to bring in something tall but something 20 meters tall? Anyways, I’m just nitpicking things at this point. The guards checked our stuff and I noticed how they had completely different demeanor than those we met at the entrance to the capital.
By the way, capital of the country shares about 5 kilometers of border with Scofinia which is unbelievably stupid but it is what it is. I would expect capital to be more in the center of the country but whatever.
Back to the guards, they looked strong and really disciplined. They were all carrying a sword which looked really expensive too. We were allowed in and the moment I walked in, I saw all the cool architecture. The gardens seemed to be the best. The flowers had bloomed so it gave the entire place a really faint fragrance. As we kept walking, I could see that emphasis was put on gardens and greenery in general. There were trees on either side of the path leading up to the castle. There were many animals running around too. They seemed like versions of squirrels, rabbits and birds. I say versions because they were a tad bit different from my own world. For example, the tail of rabbits was a bit longer and squirrels had a single horn in the center of their foreheads. And then there was the castle itself towering above everything else.
My mom was the minister of defense but we lived in an apartment. Of course we had Z-Level security but still an apartment is an apartment.
This seemed way too over the top for my taste. I think it’s because an apartment is easily maintainable which my mom seemed to prefer in a house. We don’t have servants so that’s why. Plus my room itself is far better than this entire dark, hot, humid and smelly castle. I’m also a clean freak so I would lose my mind living in a medieval castle.
Why am I roasting this castle unprovoked? Maybe because this castle is pointless, it should be sold off and the money should go into the economy to handle the hyperinflation. But reputation, I guess. Whatever.
We entered the castle. On the inside, it was just as majestic as the outside. The walls were decorated with the most intricate artworks and so were the ceilings.
Mira seemed like a patron of the art.
There were two flags of the country hanging on either side of the massive hallway. There were massive stairways. One in the middle and then there were 4 corridors, 2 on each side of the hallway from the entrance. We were asked to walk up the stairs to the royal court. The entrance to the royal court was directly in front of us as we walked up the stairs but the corridor stretched to either side as well leading to god knows where. We entered the royal court and there were dozens of people standing on either side of us. The queen was sitting in front of us on her throne.
Mira Deem. The ice queen of the Kingdom of Deem was sitting in front of me. She had barely any expression on her face. I could see her deep blue eyes, pale as snow skin and crimson hair. She looked too majestic and cold for someone who couldn’t even manage her economy despite having a coastal region in her country. Leanna, Historia, Sasaki and Alice bowed but I can’t be bothered to. I’m too lazy for that.
There were a bunch of people on either side of us. I think they’re nobles asked to be here because someone related to The Grand Order was coming.
“Bow in the presence of her majesty!” A man ordered. I think he was a minister of some kind since he was standing next to Mira.
“I can’t be bothered since you’re not my queen.” I replied and shrugged. I’m just that petty. Had she taken care of her country I would’ve shown her respect but right now I hate her.
