“Ahem, I believe I was saying something about magic before this whole discussion of whether I am your new… your mother.” It was pretty clear Root was trying to change the subject of the little girl's mother. “Yes mom, did you say I could use magic to hide my wings?” The fairy looked back at her wings. “Hmm, I don’t wanna! I like them the way they are!” She really did not want to hide her wings because she liked being a fairy afterall.

“You won’t have to hide them all the time, Avvy. It will only be when we are near a human settlement, and besides they will still be there it will just be illusion magic.” The little girl looked like she wanted to protest, but instead she flashed another grin before saying, “if this is what my mom thinks is best then I will have to learn it, but can I really use magic?” Avvy was reluctant to have to hide her wings, but she also seemed excited at the prospect of using magic.

“Indeed, you can use magic; in fact, your magic should be relatively powerful for your age. Also take another look at the ice beneath your feet.” Avvy looked down at the ice, but she tilted her head. She was unsure what her mother was even talking about. “Avvy, all of this ice was caused by you, but you were unconscious when it happened. This is indeed your magic, and you should have a great affinity for ice and dark elements.”

“Ice element? Dark element? What does that have to do with illusions, mom?”

Avvy had no clue about anything to do with magic. Afterall most of her memories were wiped, and even before she didn’t even become a teenager before her execution. “I suppose, you would not know about magic and elements. Well there are an array of elements each with their own schools of magic. Your main element would be Ice, and your secondary element would be darkness. We will have to tap into your second element for the illusions, but don’t worry we will properly get you accumulated to your primary element. Afterall it will be a requirement if we go to a human city, or if we come across any monsters out here in the forest.”

As Avvy was actually focused on her mothers words she managed to follow along. “What can I do with the ice element? Ah, you said I froze the ground, but can I do other things with it, mom?” As it turns out elements can be very versatile depending on how one uses magic. “You can do many things with Ice magic other than freeze the ground, but first you are going to have to learn… or rather remember the sensation of your own mana. You will just have to do exactly as I tell you, and the sensation should come easily for you.”

“Yes, mother! Hehe” Ignoring the cheeky little girl, Root went on to explain. “All you need to do is focus on the core of yourself, and you should be able to feel something. This should be an easy task even for you.” Avvy sat down on the frozen grass beneath her. Surprisingly the grass did not feel cold to her. There was not even a wet sensation from melting ice; in fact, the ice was not even melting during midday.

Nonetheless Avvy closed her eyes and started to focus on the core of her being. After not even a couple seconds there was an immediate reaction, and inside of her core she could sense two floating orbs. There was a big white orb, and at about half the size of the white orb was another black orb. She held her hand to her chest as she sensed the orb, and as she did that a transparent hand appeared inside of her core reaching for the orbs. The moment the transparent hand grabbed the white orb. Ice started to pour off of Avvy’s body, and the transparent hand seemed to slowly suck out the mana of white orb; however, the amount being drained was very little in relation to the size of the orb. She had already learned to channel her ice mana to create a phenomenon.

“I knew this would be interesting, indeed! I am glad you were the one! To be able to do this so naturally. It is almost the same as when I last came here.” If Root could jump right now, she would be jumping for joy. She had found the perfect being to descend down into the mortal realm with. The little girl even claimed Root as her mother. This situation was perfect for the god even if she had to close the abyss to descend upon the mortal realm.

—-----------

The Kingdom of Arbhor was a wealthy kingdom. That was before it became known as the Arbhor Kingdom. When King Arbhor the first took the throne from the previous lineage in mortal combat the kingdom took the new family name at the behest of their new king. It was over 40 years ago when first king took the throne from the previous family who had begun to rule like tyrants. Currently the Kingdom of Arbhor is under their second king, Arbhor II. The Kingdom sits just south of the center of the Continent of Shole. It is a fairly large kingdom, but recently it has been on the decline as they lost their trade with the Bazul Empire. The Empire did not support the new rulers of the kingdom, and that has been made public.

King Arbhor II currently sits alone in his office trying to find a remedy for their decreasing funds. He is a just king who will not overly tax his people, but currently he is in a bind hoping for any sort of good news from the Kingdoms treasurer. Olon the king’s treasurer was currently in a meeting to discuss this very topic with the aristocrats that were at least above the baron level. The King could not attend this meeting himself as there was an urgent report from the scholars foundation about a recent occurrence and they would be by his office soon.

King Arbhor II did not even have to wait 15 minutes before there was a knock on his door. The king's stewart Intor spoke. “Your Majesty the scholars will soon be let into the throne room for the report.” The king stood up from behind his desk and desk and adorned his king’s robes and crown. King Arbhor II was a handsome individual with nice features and long black hair and gentle eyes. He was only 28, and had taken the throne after his father had passed away at 68. His mother died giving birth to him.

King Arbor II opened the door of his study. “Very well, let us walk there together.” As soon as Arbhor finished his sentence Intor and two of the kings elite guards began to follow the king. They walked down a long stone hallway with several paintings and red carpet with gold trimming. They turned right at the end of the hallway to enter a massive throne room with equally massive pillars. The carpet turned from the hallway and continued up the stairs to the throne. It was the same for the other side of the throne and in front of it was another red carpet leading towards the exit of the castle. A giant golden chandelier hung from the center of the throne room, and off to the left side of the entrance was the steward Intor’s personal quarters.

The King sat down on the throne, and the guards assumed their position to the sides of the throne. Intor was situated at the bottom of the stairs leading to the throne. Once They were all in their standard positions, several guards and three scholars entered the throne room. The guards stood at attention to the sides of the red carpet and the scholars walked the red carpet until they were in front of Intor where they kneeled. “Intor, I will allow them to speak freely.” King Arbhor II finally spoke. “Yes, your Majesty!” Intor bowed and took a step to the side, staying on the red carpet but standing at attention nonetheless.

The three scholars were adorned with black robes with a golden tree crest on the back. This was the typical crest of the Scholars Foundation. The gold symbolized the wealth of the kingdom, and the tree was a symbol for knowledge. By the way, the crest for the kingdom was a golden rhino crest symbolizing wealth and power. The three scholars looked visibly nervous as they were about to deliver their report to his Majesty. The one in the middle was the head of the Scholars Foundation Eedron. He was one of the only elves in the kingdom, and he had long green hair along with green eyes. He was actually the newly appointed head of the Scholars Foundation, and he was relatively young for the position at age 30. Even though he was a friend of the King he still looked visibly nervous as well.

“If I may speak freely, your Majesty…” The king nodded and replied, “You may speak. The room is yours.” following his Majesty’s words Eedron stood at attention to deliver the news. “We of the Scholars Foundation are to believe that the recent tremors throughout the Kingdom are no coincidence. In fact, we think that the monsters in Forest of Woe have also become restless. Reports say people spotted more goblins leaving the forest than usual.” The king looked visibly distraught from the news.

“Is that all for the report?” The king asked hoping there was no more bad news. “Your majesty… I think this will be a repeat of that calamity from 1200 years ago… If…if that witch descended again we may need to research that very topic before this gets out of hand.” The king rubbed his chin before saying, “we need to treat this with care. No one is to make any rash moves. We will tighten our security on the smaller villages to make sure our commoners are safe, especially those close to the forest. Intor be sure to let the aristocrats in the region near the forest know this!” Intor bowed “yes, your Majesty!” The king slumped back on his throne before mumbling “If that thing really did descend once more, may the gods help us all…”
