A dark void where nothing happens except the occasional flickering of lost souls. This void is eternal, and it is one of two realms of the dead. The void is nameless, and most of the souls that happen upon this void are damned. In here souls will remain and eventually fade into nothingness. The “God” that rules over this realm is ageless. Unlike the void, she does have a name, and her name is “Root”.

Root just so happened to find her favorite type of soul floating floating alone in the void. It was a little girl playing pretend, and the little girl was ever so desperately and greedily clinging to half memories. “The little girl’s soul is breaking” the god spoke while observing a soul that was near expiration. “Hmm, I should do something about this! Yes, yes Indeed! This will be very interesting, as a matter of fact…” her voice trailed out before she grasped the soul in her hands.

“Ah yes indeed!” Root was elated once her hand grasped the soul. She was unable to contain her excitement “This is definitely interesting! Yes, this is interesting indeed!” The soul flickered a few times, but in here souls cannot speak. “I can see your selfish desire. You desperately and greedily cling to these memories like it is a matter of fact. The memories of your pretend mother. Oh yes! This is amazing!”

“I will help you achieve your greedy desires! Isn’t this amazing!? It is not often that a soul like yours finds itself into my domain! You should be elated! Indeed, I am elated! With this you will be able to struggle to find your happiness, that is your ‘mother’, and I will be able to descend upon the mortal realm in a form I desire!” When the god finished her excited speech the soul flickered wildly.

“Oh sorry, I do not wish you harm. I did mean to scare you; in fact, your existence makes me happy to no end!” She gently petted the soul in her hand, and the soul seemed to calm down. “There, there little one. I will grant you power for the sake of mine and your goal. It will only come at the price of your memories, but fear not, you will gain them again through your experience. Let’s see… All you need is some of my power and a name. I will also make it so you remember my name as well, so you can call out to me.” Root grasped the soul and flooded it with her power. The soul flickered wildly for a while; however, eventually the soul became stable. “ Your name shall be… Avvy!” Once Root said the name, the soul disappeared from the void. The same day the soul entered the mortal realm, there was a tremor felt in the Kingdom of Arbhor.

—-------------

Alone in a clearing in a forest there is a little girl lying face down in the grass. This part of the forest is extremely quiet, and there are no animals nearby. Not even a bug is making sound. The grass surrounding the little girl is white and frozen. The little girl has white hair that goes down below her shoulders. She is adorned with white robes. She would seem like a normal 9 year old little girl if not for the silver wings growing out from behind the slits in her robe. Her height also betrays being a normal fairy, for she is Avvy.

Avvy wakes up and slowly starts to blink her eyes, but as she fully opens her eyes she realizes the immense pain that assails her head. Her breathing starts becoming rough as a result. “AHHH! Make it stop! Make it stop!” She grabs her head in an attempt to deal with the pain. “Someone please help me!” Suddenly a voice resounds in her head. “Very well then, I will indeed help you.” The pain in the little fairy’s head slowly starts to die as her breathing becomes normal.

“I fixed the pain in your head. Feel free to thank me, but I am not ‘someone’! I have a name remember?” Avvy releases her head and nods, “Thank you, Root! You are amazing!” The little girl turns her head and starts to make out her surroundings through hazy vision. Not only is the ground beneath her feet frozen, but the trunks of the trees around her are also frozen. “Where are we, Root?” The fairy spoke aloud to the voice in her head.

“Hmm, we are currently in the Kingdom of Arbhor. That is what humans call this place now. We are currently in the Forest of Woe. There is a human settlement about 10 kilometers to the north, and there seems to be an orc settlement somewhere in this very forest?” Once Root finished speaking, Avvy just tilted her head in confusion. There were many things she did not understand about Root’s words.

“What is a Kingdom of Abor? This forest is called, Whoa? Looking at it doesn’t make me want to say, Whoa. I don’t even see a bunny or any other little animals…” She was about to continue before Root cut her off. “Okay, I don’t know how it is possible, but you got every single part of that all wrong. Well, it is indeed true that you are only a little girl. This much can be forgiven, I suppose.”

“Hey! I am not a little girl! I am Avvy! You are a meanie, Root! Blaah!” The little girl stuck out her tongue. “Yes, yes I am sorry. Will you forgive me, Avvy?” The little girl put a finger on her chin. “Hehe, I will forgive you Root!” Avvy forgave her as she had a mischievous smile. “I can see you will be a handful. I pity any human who comes into contact with you.” Just like that, Root was back to her mean persona.

“You should start heading north towards the human settlement. If you do, I can promise something fun will happen, but first you are going to have to learn magic to conceal your wings, and your slitted pupils.” The little girl walked over to a tree that had ice clinging to the trunk and looked at her own face. She had deep purple eyes with black slits in the middle of them. Some of her white hair was dangling in her face. She tried to blow it away but failed horribly. Her hair was a mess. She turned to the side to reveal the reflection of her silver wings. She grabbed one of the wings with her hand and felt a familiar sensation.

“I forgot I had these! I love them! I am a real fairy!” Avvy had a huge grin on her face as she spoke with excitement. “Yes, this is how it has always been. Of course you are a fairy. You were born one after all.” As soon as Root finished speaking, Avvy looked like she wanted to ask a question. “What is it, girl?”

“I am not ‘girl’! I am Avvy!” The little girl shouted in retort. “Yes, I am sorry, Avvy… What is it, Avvy?” Once Root finished her question Avvy immediately asked, “If I was born as a fairy… W-Would that make you my M-mother?” As soon as she asked, Root had no words to say for a bit. Eventually she finally said, “Indeed, in a way I would be your new…” she paused, “No, I am indeed your mother.” A bright smile returned to Avvy. “Then can I call you, mom?” As soon as she asked, Root breathed a sigh. “Haa, it is fine Avvy. I shall be your ‘Mother’”
