Milaan ran to Romeo’s office, saying, “Daddy, this princess had her nails done.”
Romeo smirked as he looked up. Milaan was a princess, and she knew it, whether people liked it and yes, she was spoiled, but she didn’t show it off, or she didn’t need to because everyone knew it.
She climbed into his lap. Romeo held her hands out and looked at her nails. Smiling, he asked, “Why do you have cupcakes on your nails princess?”
She rolled her hands and climbed off. She said as she reached the door, “Because I wanted them.”
Halo smirked as he walked past her. Looking at his husband, he immediately frowned. “What happened?”
“Go check on your son,” Romeo said. Halo had this thing where he always knew if something happened.
As Halo left, he secretly hoped Juliano wouldn’t tell him what he saw. Halo thought he killed the Steward’s and didn’t know about the third floor of the house.
*
Halo knocked on Juliano’s door, but there wasn’t an answer. He tried to open it, but it was locked. Frowning, he went back to his bedroom, grabbing the spare key, then returned and opened the door.
Juliano was under the blanket and, from the way the blanket was moving, it seemed like he was trembling.
“Are you awake?” He asked.
“Didn’t I lock the door?” Juliano asked.
Halo walked up to the bed and knelt down. He leaned against the bed and said, “Look at me.”
Juliano uncovered his head and stared at Halo, who was frowning.
Smiling at him, Halo asked, “Why did you lock the door? You know I don’t like it.”
Juliano stared at his father but didn’t know where to start. He was open with them, but his father… it seemed like there was much more that he was hiding from him.
“How well do you know dad?” He asked.
Halo sighed. “I know him better than I know myself.”
Juliano tapped the bed and said, “You can sit here.”
Halo raised a brow. “Are you sure?”
He nodded his head. “Mn, I want to hear your side of the story.”
Halo climbed onto the bed. Juliano rested his head on Halo’s thigh. Juliano took Halo’s right hand and placed it on his shoulder.
Halo smiled. It felt like it had been ages since he last held his son and, although this was holding him; it was close.
Juliano turned to him and said, “I didn’t get the full story. We stopped after he told me grandma killed some man named Stephen.”
Halo nodded his head slowly. “I think Stephen is the reason your father can’t accept that his life is perfect.”
“What do you mean?” He asked.
“Your grandmother wasn’t his only victim, even some female police officers filed cases against him, but because he was so good at his job, he got away with a lot,” he explained.
“So where do I fit into all of this? Why did I get hurt?” He asked.

Halo poked his nose, asking, “So, when I met your father, I never expected to be in a relationship with him. All he did was give me a ride home, and I teased him for the fun of it and I guess that’s where we hit it off. When Antonio’s birth father, who used to be my friend, found out about us, he told me your father was supplying the school with drugs because he bought from Romeo too.”
“So it’s true?” He asked.
Halo nodded his head. “Your father confessed to it and later on he also told me about what happened in his life. His life is not something he liked to talk about, and I only found out the truth when your grandmother told me about it. Your father spun so many stories because he doesn’t want to accept what happened to his mother and how he came into this world.”
Juliano sighed, “I’ve thought about it too. I wanted to tell Lilith what happened to me, but I don’t have the courage to.”
Halo smiled, “You don’t have to, especially when there is no guarantee that you two will get married and live a happy life.”
Juliano nodded, then covered his head, asking, “How did you deal with it?”
“I didn’t believe him. Your father and I went through a lot. Do you remember the lady that abducted you from school?” He asked.
Juliano uncovered his head and looked at Halo. “What about her?”
“She is your father’s ex-girlfriend’s sister,” he said.
Juliano sat up on the bed and stared at him. “Dad’s gay.”
“No, bi-sexual like you are,” he corrected.
Juliano frowned, “So why? Why did she?”
“Why did she kidnap you?” He finished.
Juliano nodded his head.
“Your father left Nicola because she was only wanted money and sex. They had been dating for about two years before he noticed me and you can say that Nicola wasn’t happy that your father suddenly turned gay and in the shadows, she tried to manipulate him,” he said.
Juliano stared at him. There was no way he could’ve imagined this outcome, but what did it have to do with him?
“Your father visited me one night and told me he was going to kill Nicola,” he said.
Juliano’s heart dropped.
Halo nodded his head, he placed his hand on Juliano’s shoulder and continued, “Nicola ratted your father out to the cops and that is how we met Anthony. Your father works for a syndicate called the ‘Blood Mafia’ and they are dangerous, far beyond our imaginations. Anthony had been after the head of the mafia and your father was a lead he was following. It was on the day that I realised that everything your father was telling me was real. I had to pretend that I did not know what was happening. Your grandfather bailed your father out of jail because I asked him and then I found out that even your grandfather belongs to the mafia, which is still unbelievable.”
“So this Nicola? She got away with it?” He asked.
Halo shook his head. “No, she didn’t. Your father’s boss…”
“Vanessa?” He asked.
Halo nodded. “Yes, she told him to kill her because she had put the mafia at risk. I thought it was all just a lie, but the cops paid the school another visit, your uncle Anthony to be specific, and he even suspected that I killed Nicola because she was after Romeo.”
“There was no evidence that he killed her, but your father wanted to send Anthony a warning and he gave me a pin before I got questioned. He told me to slip it into Anthony’s partner’s pocket and you must know, I don’t know why I listened to him but I did and thirty minutes later, that woman died in front of the school building,” he explained.
Juliano moved away from Halo and said, “Daddy, don’t lie. You aren’t capable of killing someone.”
Halo forced a smile and sighed, “Because I know how to bake and cook, your father asked me to help make the drugs for the mafia because the one who came up with the recipe went under the knife to get his gender changed from male to female.”
Juliano frowned and hid under the blanket. The more he listened, the more it seemed like he was hearing things that shouldn’t be heard.
