Romeo closed the door and walked up to the bed. He sat down in front of Juliano and asked, “What happened? Why are you crying?”
Juliano looked at his father and asked, “Are you and daddy okay?”
Romeo was confused then he thought back to the conversation they had and asked, “Did you hear anything?”
Juliano nodded his head, “I remembered why I wanted daddy and when I went back, he hit you.”
Romeo sighed. Looking at him, he said, “Juliano, listen. A lot happened between Halo and I when we were together and I forced him to do things he didn’t like.”
“What things?” He interrupted.
Romeo shook his head. “I’ll tell you when you are older because it’s not something I should tell you now.”
Juliano stared at him, then asked, “So those things were bad?”
He nodded his head, “Very bad and I wish I could go back to the past and fix things but I can’t and I know you say Halo loves me and even if he does, he is still scared that I might bring our past into your life and you know Halo only wants what is best for you and I want what is best for you too.”
Juliano let his tears fall and said, “But I don’t want you two to fight. Daddy said fighting is bad, but he hit you.”
Romeo crawled up the bed and hugged him. He kissed Juliano on the forehead and said, “Mn, he was just getting his anger out. Don’t think about it okay, I’ll try to make things right with Halo then we’ll be happy okay?”
“But why can’t we be happy now? I just met you,” he continued, crying.
“Juliano!” Halo called from down below.
Juliano caught a fright, then said as he looked at Romeo, “Don’t let him see me cry. He’s going to say I must cry outside.”
“What?” Romeo asked, then Halo called Juliano again and sounded near.
“Quickly,” Juliano shook him.
Romeo jumped off the bed and rushed out, catching Halo just before he got to the room. “Juliano’s asleep.”
Halo didn’t even look at him and tried to push past him.
Romeo grabbed him by the arm and yanked him. “I fucking said he is sleeping. What don’t you understand?”
“He needs to eat!” Halo hissed in his face.
“He already did, remember? You left breakfast!” Romeo said.
Halo stared at him for a moment, then dropped it. He pulled his arm away and walked off, saying, “You too, come it!”
Romeo sighed. He opened Juliano’s door and said, “I’m going now.”
Juliano nodded his head as he wiped his eyes with a smile. “Thank you.”
“Don’t make it a habit. Halo will kick me out of the house, then you won’t see me,” he said and closed the door.
Juliano stared at the door for a while, then lied down and cried himself to sleep. He had never seen Halo hurt someone, so he was frightened and now he wasn’t sure if it was okay to have his other father around.”

Romeo sat opposite Halo and looked at the sandwiches. There was a variety of them and it was a bit too much.
He looked at Halo and asked, “Do you always feed Juliano so much food?”
He nodded his head as he answered without looking at him, “Yes.”
He nodded his head, then started eating.
His mind drifted, thinking about how he needed to fix his act.
He sighed loudly, then got up and said, “Thank you.”

Romeo went out and sat at the back for almost an hour.
He returned in when he heard Juliano laughing. He saw him eating at the table and asked, “When did you get up?”
He sat down beside Juliano as he answered, “Long ago, when you were still outside. Daddy said I should wait for you to come in before I bother you with my questions.”
Romeo smirked, then kissed him on the forehead and turned to Halo. “I’m going to my mother’s house. Can I take Juliano with?”
Halo raised a brow, then looked at his son and saw that Juliano had a big smile.
He nodded his head. “Okay, but you can’t feed him junk food.”
He patted Juliano on the shoulder and said, “Get dressed when you’re done.”

When they arrived at his mother’s house, Juliano was taken on a tour and spoiled rotten.
Amanda walked up to her son that was sitting on his old bed looking through a photo album he had made with his and Halo’s old pictures.
She sat down and looked at the album and asked, “Are you thinking of getting back together with Halo?”
Romeo turned to her, saying, “Juliano told me he wants us to be a family.”
“That’s good, isn’t it? What did Halo say?” She asked.
Romeo shook his head. Looking back at their photos, he said, “Ma, Halo is only pretending to like me.”
She frowned. “But you and Halo were good together. I’m sure that you’ll work things out.”
Romeo shook his head. He looked at his mother, then his lip started trembling, “Ma, I’m as fucked up as my fathers were. I’ve been doing the same things they did to you and it’s only driving Halo further away from me.”
Amanda’s eyes widened. She stood up and said as she looked at him, “Romeo, I never taught you to hit your partner.”
Romeo shook his head. “Ma, you taught me not to lay my hands on a girl, not Halo. I loved him so much and I ended up forcing him to do things he shouldn’t, and that’s why he left me.”
She wiped her tears and asked, “What did you make him do?”
He closed the album in his lap as he answered, “He killed officer Rowan’s partner. He knew beforehand that I was going to kill Nicola, and he made drugs when I needed him to.”
“Romeo!” She said as she covered her mouth.
She stomped her foot and paced around the room with tears in her eyes.
All of this started because of her and now it was affecting her son even after all these years. She stopped pacing and said to him, “You should have never dragged Halo into that life!”
“I know, but I needed him in those moments. We were ride or die and he’d never eat me out but we have a son together and Halo… Halo’s still fucking that damn cop! And I’m telling you, mama, I’m sure Halo wishes he was Juliano’s father and not me. I don’t even know how to pretend in front of Juliano, and I want to give it my all but Halo? He and I? I don’t think we can work things out if he still wants to be fucked by him.”
Amanda walked up to her son and wiped his tears away. She kissed him on the lips and hugged him, “Everything will be okay Romeo, just take it one step at a time.”
Squeezing his mother he asked, “How will I do that when he is so hopeful? I was hopeful too, but Halo? He’s given up on us already.”
Amanda sighed and hugged him tighter.
Outside, Juliano was walking backwards quietly, then turned around and rushed outside.
He stopped by the tree in the backyard and sat down. He quickly wiped his tears away and calmed himself.
Whenever he wanted something from the adults, he’d always end up rushing in and hearing these strange conversations, but luckily, Juliano couldn’t understand and wasn’t the type to speak another’s business out—can you imagine what would happen?
But these men were his dad’s.
