There is a common tell for judging a male’s aptitude——Through appearance. It’s not foolproof, but it’s reliable.

The better the appearance, the higher the aptitude is. Of course, ‘good-looking’ itself is subjective, but having a ‘good appearance’ for aptitude purposes simply means to have facial features with the ratio and proportions that make up a golden appearance, so to speak. Put simply, things like their mouths are not slanted and their eyes are not a strange distance apart, that sort of thing.

“If you have a shemale by your side when you Awaken, he will be able to guide you along, and make it less painful to endure,” Mr Liang watches Cheng Zhaoci’s cheeks slowly flush with red. Ah, it seems the male has already figured out what guiding him along meant even without explanation.

Truly, sometimes Mr Cheng Zhaoci’s wisdom and talent puts all others to shame.

Though Cheng Zhaoci would certainly disagree with the notion of him being ‘talented.’ It’s simply a result of him having read a distressingly large quantity of that kind of novel in his past life. Never mind those novels-that-must-not-be-named, but even more typical wuxia or xianxia novels would involve a guy and a girl ‘dual-cultivating’ by undressing and then, you know.

A male being guided by a shemale? He thinks he knows exactly where it is going.

“Grade A? Possibly, but also possibly even higher,” in some undisclosed facility, a bunch of researchers in white laboratory coats are discussing a certain insectoid that is often their topic du jour these days.

“He might break through to grade S,” a male with goggles still on quickly swallows his mouthful of meal, and continues, “but grade S mortality is no joke.”

The mortality rate for grade A Awakenings stands at 3%, but grade S Awakenings are at 80%. The pain is more than what most males can take.

“Hey, Bai Jun, what do you think?” A male with long hair pokes Bai Jun with his elbow.

“My father has been paying attention to Cheng Zhaoci a lot recently,” Bai Jun thinks, and replies, “he’s very clever; he almost got me to spill our secrets.”

“His comics are all my cijun and concubines would read these days. Oh, and my kids too,” a male sighs, looking up at the ceiling at 45 degrees, “when they cry together they look like they’re trying to flood the house while glaring at the holodeck like it killed their parents. That’s not even as bad as now, when they’re all making these creepy smiles at the holodeck now. It gives me the goosebumps.”

“Hahaha, not just your cijun and concubines, even Bai Jun tried to find a reporter at the broadcast building. Speaking of, did you succeed?” The male with long hair elbow pokes Bai Jun again.

He didn’t, and almost starved to death on the way, but Bai Jun isn’t going to talk about that, “I didn’t find one, but I at least ran into Cheng Zhaoci himself.”

“Bai Jun, honestly, research is all you’ve been doing from young ’til old. Is the President not worried you won’t be able to find a cijun?”

“It’s fine. I’m not the only insectoid in my family this generation,” Bai Jun lowers his head, poking the egg in his bowl of meal, “though my dad and uncles are all telling me to find someone.”

‘Uncle’ is what they’d call the other shemale and demi spouses of their fathers. Bai Jun’s father, the President, has more than a few concubines in addition to his cijun, but they are mostly on good terms.

Or they wouldn’t be worrying about his marriage together, and Bai Jun says, “it’s getting really troublesome to shrug off, and I read the comic, so…”

Another researcher pats his stomach in solidarity. Them researchers are always busy in the lab. It’s not easy to find true love.

“But honestly, if Cheng Zhaoci really turns out to be grade S, the Director will probably do whatever it takes to get him here, won’t he?”

Shemales evolved with an emphasis on physical strength and dexterity, while males evolved with an emphasis on thought capacity. After the Awakening, their memory and rational abilities will be massively changed.

Practically every male seated here would be considered geniuses back on Earth, having pristine, photographic memory.

There may still be shemales among the politicians, but the highest research institute of the land is truly male-exclusive. There is not a single shemale or demi to be seen.

They are even the ones in charge of their own security; the Institute is always the safest place of the entire Capital planet.

If war breaks out and spreads through even the Capital planet, the protective shield of the First Research Institute can cover and lockdown the entire building.

Not even the most advanced particle weaponry can leave a dent. Even if the entire Capital planet was cracked, the protected ball that is the First Research Institute will still be able to keep the males breathing, eating and drinking while drifting through the vastness of the universe for some twenty-odd years.

As the President calls it, they’re the ‘toughest little buggers’ of the entire insectoid race.

And the toughest little buggers of genius intellect actually take it as a praise.

Of course, this only speaks volumes of how powerful a grade S male would be when Awakened grade A males are already this capable. Then again, that is assuming the grade S male doesn’t die during the Awakening process, which is all the more likely if he hasn’t a shemale or demi guiding him.

“Don’t we already have a grade S shemale? They’d make a great couple.”

The male with long hair disagrees, “unlikely. That shemale’s father is another typical male with added sadism on the side. The shemale has successfully split himself from his family, but he still carries the scar from the splitting on his face.”

“Ah, great, another male-phobic shemale ruined by those good-for-nothing males,” another of their colleagues, chewing a healthy handful of greens, chimes in, “they’re always there to ruin every bloody thing they get their hands on. The Male Protection Laws? The Criminal Immunity Laws, more like.”

“What else can you do? We are but a few to many,” it is really uncommon for a male to be as high-achieving as they are. They are an almost invisible minority within a minority.

Most of the males have not capability nor drive. Their only purpose in life is to eat and sleep and die. A few of them have unspeakable fetishes, even.

“But doesn’t that mean it’s going to be seriously dangerous for that male? That won’t do. We can’t be short such a capable member,” this young male has already sentenced Cheng Zhaoci to working with them in the Institute, it seems.

“He likes drawing comics, though; are you sure he’d be interested in doing research?” Bai Jun asks.

“Drawing is already too draining on my brain cells,” Cheng Zhaoci mumbles, reading the Mecha Operating Manual on his holodeck, “do males have nothing but weird trivia to learn?”

‘How to Become a Great Xiongzhu,’ fine, but that got changed to Basic Mecha Fighting Principles. Why would a male be learning mecha fighting? There aren’t even mechas suitable for male use in this world.

He can go play in the virtual fights, sure, but that’s playing a game.

“Would you like to study mathematics, then?” Mr Liang is quite lenient and easygoing, seemingly happy with whatever Cheng Zhaoci wants to learn, “starting from the basics. Or if you’re more interested in Mecha Manufacturing or Holodeck Fundamentals. These are all useful skills to master.”

“Never mind. Mecha fighting is good enough for me,” maths?! Yeah, no thanks. In his past life, his marks in mathematics have always hovered just above passing. The most mathematics he’s ever had to do after graduating was calculating the most cost-saving way to utilise his Double Eleven holiday coupons.

Though when Cheng Zhaoci was all determined to subject himself to more torturous studies, he spots a familiar insectoid outside his window.

Sun Wushe? He’s off duty? Why is he already home?

Normally, the shemale soldiers are rotated off duty later than Mr Liang going home. Maybe he had a sick day?

Mr Liang sighs, seeing Cheng Zhaoci’s attention drift away, “xiao-Ci, I would have to tell your dad if you keep this up.”

“Wah! I’m sorry!” Cheng Zhaoci quickly turns his head back to his holodeck. He doesn’t know half a word of what’s going on, but his attitude has to be there!

Sun Wushe is looking at the window as Cheng Zhaoci turns his attention back to his materials. He watches quietly for a while before going home.
