Lukas spoke to the receptionist who in turn began typing on the computer. The man then asked the group for their names to which they replied. Afterward, they went to one of the elevators left side of the reception area.
As they were going up, Lukas turned around. “The wind element awakening area is at the rooftop so it’ll take a while. For now, I will teach you how to awaken your magic…”
Hearing the silent confirmation, Lukas continued.
“Awakening magic has two parts. First, you need to invoke the mana in the surroundings. That’s the easy part. The hard part, however, is the mana rebound on the body and mind.”
Noah knit his brows. “What’s that?”
“The mana rebound is what prevents mages and the unawakened from awakening a magic type. Remember, when I said normal humans can awaken one element per magic level? And Transported humans can awaken two or more elements. This is because of the magic rebound and the constitution of the human… When a person awakens magic, mana gathers inside their body. The stronger the body, the more mana you can store inside your body. The gathering of mana would also feel like getting full as you eat. Except for this time, if you eat too much, you will explode." Lukas made a stern face. "Literally.”
In their minds, a picture of a man exploding to bloody pieces appeared. The two crumpled their faces.
“W-What about mana rebound in the mind?” James asked.
Lukas resisted to snicker before them. “Assuming you don’t explode, you’ll take on the mind mana rebound next. Worst case scenario, your head explodes…”
He laughed when he saw their sour face again. “If your head doesn’t explode, you will be in a coma. It’s bad, but you can still live. Anyway, some amazing people can withstand the mana rebound.”
At this time, Janice interjected. “Just tell them the awakening chant.”
Lukas became quiet, but he soon said. “Before awakening, you must awaken in the best environment for your chosen element. That is why the wind element awakening area is located at the top of our highest building. Wind mana is more prevalent the higher the altitude, with the rest of the mana types scarce which increases the chances of awakening the right magic type.”
He each gave them a piece of paper with handwriting on it. “Don’t read it right now. This is the awakening chant. Be sure to NOT READ IT right now, okay?”
The two gulped as they looked at the words on the paper. “Yes”
“Good… Or else you will mess up your awakening and get the wrong element.”
At this point, the bell rang, and the door opened.
On the other side was an open area with fences at the edges to prevent falling. The group left the elevator and saw several pillars scattered around the floor. Lines run along their surfaces with some of the lines glowing in an irregular pattern. It was also abnormally windy as if there was a storm passing through the area.
Lukas led the group inside the only room in the area. As they stared at the glass panels, he pointed at the center of the area that had an immovable mat on the floor. “That is the awakening area. James, go there and sit. There, you will use the chant I gave you.”
James nodded but hesitated when he is about to leave. He faced Lukas. “I wouldn’t get struck by lightning or fly away, am I?”
Lukas smiled at his words. “No silly. You won’t get struck by lightning, although you might fly away. In that case, I will catch you.”
Noah suddenly had an idea. Maybe the fences were not used to prevent people from jumping, but rather to prevent them from accidentally flying away.
Meanwhile, James went silent for a few seconds before stepping out.
Swoosh.
He squinted his eyes as the stormy wind battered his body. His clothes flapped as he struggled to move to the centre of the area. Sometimes, he’d take a step to the right as the wind hit him hard enough to push him sideways.
It took some time, but he finally arrived at the centre. He sat on the maroon-coloured mat.
Pulling out the piece of paper, he reviewed the instructions and memorized the awakening chat. I got this. He steadied his breath and closed his eyes. As the wind hit him and his already flapping clothes, James spoke the words on the piece of paper.
“IN THE RULES OF THE FIRST MAGIC SYSTEM, I BRING MAGIC.”
He suddenly felt something moving around him. He opened his eyes but he only saw the wind assaulting his body and the group watching him from afar. No lights, nor any indication of magic. Just wind flowing and hitting him.
Ugh.
Soon, he felt his body becoming full, but it wasn’t his stomach. But rather something else in his body.
The surrounding movement suddenly became chaotic and his body became even heavier, more restricted. He opened his eyes one more time and found his clothes moving faster, even so, nothing could be seen.
Suddenly, something hit him. It wasn’t painful, but he became lightheaded. He slapped his face to ease the dizziness and then looked at the group behind the glass panel.
Lukas waved at him, while Noah had a worried face.
Meanwhile, Lukas approached the exit while smiling. “He’s done. Stay here, I’ll fetch him.”
Almost fainting, he finally felt his body stabilize as if it was done feeding. He looked up at the group and saw Lukas coming over. James stood up as he realized the awakening is done. Still dizzy, he tried to walk but found himself swaying to the left side being pushed by the wind.
A hand touched his shoulder, and he felt the wind around him starting to weaken. He moved his head up and saw Lukas’ smiling face, who said something. James couldn’t hear it, but he knew what his mouth said. Good job!
It was easier going back to the room with Lukas shielding him. As soon as they arrived, Noah approached James. “You okay?”
James raised his head up and smiled. “Guess what? I finally awakened. I am now a mage.”
“Nice!” Noah also smiled. The rest also congratulated him.
Afterward, Lukas asked James. “Look at your soul sea. What is the color of your star system?” He wanted to make sure he awakened the right magic type else it’s a failure and he would have to adapt his build or worse, change his role.
James shrugged. “How do you look at your soul sea?”
Lukas spoke. “Close your eyes and feel around your body. If you feel something different, focus on it. After that, an image will form in your mind… that is your soul sea. Next, you will need to look for your star system in your soul sea. I trust you got that?”
James nodded and sat down. Next, he closed his eyes. He tried to feel around his body, focusing on one part before moving to another. Soon, he focused on his chest.
When he tried to feel his chest, something caught his attention, and focused even more. He suddenly saw a light flash and he instinctively opened his eyes.
“Caught something?” Lukas spoke in front of him.
“Yes.” James closed his eyes once again. He then focused on his chest. This time, he didn’t close his eyes when he saw the light. Soon the light subsided, and he saw stars moving around.
Looking closer, he realized the stars were actually small light specks of dust and not real stars in the sky. He moved his attention to a green-colored star with a tint of white. For some reason, he instantly knew that this was the star system Lukas mentioned. He opened his eyes and stared at the professor. “I found it. It looked like a star with green and a white shine, is that good?”
The man smiled and laughed. “Success! Congratulations, you got the wind element!” He patted James’ shoulders.
He continued. “Well, then. Can you move the wind around you using your element mana?”
James widened his eyes. “You can do that? I thought you needed to cast magic using a magic circle.” Casa and the patrol group mentioned mages use magic circles to cast magic, but they’ve never told him and Noah that using element mana also works.
Lukas responded. “Yes. You can do that.”
James smiled but soon frowned. “How do I move the wind using my mana? Do I just think of it, and it will happen?”
“No, you need to grab your mana from your star system. Next, use your will and order the wind to move.”
“Huh? How do I grab my mana?”
“Mentally grab it, young man.” There was annoyance in Lukas’ voice.
“Okay.” James tried to ‘grab’ the star system in the soul sea, and he felt it connect to him somehow. He opened his eyes, but still felt the connection with the star system. Next, he mentally asked the air around him to move. He then looked around and felt nothing.
The air didn’t move, so he tried again. This time, he focused. Soon, he felt something wriggle his hair and his clothes. He stared at the professor.
“Woah. Did I do it?” He smiled.
Lukas also smiled. “Yes. That’s it.”
“Damn dude. I want to awaken my magic too.” Noah stretched out and patted Lukas’ shoulder. “Sir Lukas, can I awaken my auxiliary element before my role elements?”
“Sure. It won’t hurt you if you awaken wind magic first. In fact, you will benefit more since you will get to practice attacking with offensive magic and evading with your wind magic.” Lukas replied.
“Nice. Then, wait for me.” After taking a deep breath, Noah left the room.
He squinted his eyes as the wind started pushing him to the right. He changed his posture and lowered his hips before resuming to walk.
Unlike James, he didn’t get pushed further to the right as his center of gravity was lower. Soon, he arrived at the maroon mat. He then sat.
Noah closed his eyes. He steadied his breath before speaking.
“IN THE RULES OF THE FIRST MAGIC SYSTEM, I BRING MAGIC.”
He suddenly felt his body becoming heavier like it was eating something. He didn’t open his eyes and focused on the process.

This must be the mana rebound of the body. That must be why someone would explode. If your body cannot it the mana and contain it. You would die.
In his chest, something was being added, but he couldn’t pinpoint what it was. Soon, the process finished, and something hit the back of his head.
Next, the mana rebound in the mind. My head did not explode, nor did I sleep in a coma. This means success. Noah opened his eyes and smiled. He looked at the group and waved.
The group then waved congratulations back. Next, he saw Lukas coming over to him just like earlier.
“You okay?” The man asked the dazed Noah.
“Uh, yeah.” Noah got up and swayed. Lukas caught him and put his hand under Noah’s shoulder. Noah felt the wind weaken as they made their way back to the room.
“How are you doing?” Casa came over and asked him.
“Yeah, pretty good. Still dizzy but let me see my star system.” Noah sat on a chair left for him. Lukas and James approached him and stood near him.
Meanwhile, Noah surveyed his body. He started on his chest since James mentioned that’s where he found his soul sea.
It seems the soul sea is usually stored in the chest since Noah easily found it. He resisted opening his eyes as the blinding flash appeared. Afterward, he saw little motes of light floating around. He touched one and it scattered into smaller lights. He began touching other motes of light, playing around until he found a brighter sphere of light.
This is the star system… Huh? Why is it shiny white? It’s not a whitish green… shit, it’s a different magic type. Noah knit his brows and opened his eyes.
Seeing Noah’s face, Lukas frowned. “What? Did something happen?”
“Yes. My star system looks different… It’s a different magic type.” Noah sighed.
“Hah. It’s fine. Awakening magic in a dedicated magic environment does not guarantee you will get your chosen element. You were just unlucky. Anyways, what does it look like?” An unlucky situation, but Lukas hoped Noah awakened a decent magic type for his role.
“Hmm. A shining white star. No, it’s more like a shining blue-white star. Is it white magic?”
“Oh. It’s the ice element type… ” Lukas heaved a sigh of relief and shrugged. “It’s not a bad element type. You can use an ice slide or freeze the floor for mobility. However, ice magic is usually used to attack with ice spears or dominate the battlefield with control techniques. Basically, you lost heavy mobility for extra control and offense. That’s not a bad trade.”
Noah pondered before nodding. “I guess I’ll try freezing some stuff now.”
“No, freezing is too complex for someone who just awakened. Try cooling the air around you.” Lukas and the group gave him space.
Noah nodded and closed his eyes. He took two tries before successfully grabbing the star system. Then, he ordered the air.
Cooling the air means removing the heat of the air particles. Okay… Cool down. Cool down. It’s working. His skin and hair rose. Opening his eyes, Noah saw cold vapor emanating from the floor and his body.
Touching the cold chair under him, he smiled. “Hehe. Now, I can use magic!”
“YAY!” The group celebrated once more.
..
“So, what’s next?” James asked Lukas.
Lukas faced him. “What’s next is your choice. First off, can you take another element? If so, what do you want to awaken next?”
“I’ll awaken my other main element. I want to familiarize myself with mobility magic before using offensive magic. What about you?” James turned to Noah who had his hands together.
“Hmm. I’ll awaken the lightning element type.” He put down his hands. In it were a miniature and deformed version of a human upper body made of ice.
Lukas stood and the rest followed. They exited the glass room and marched to the elevator.
Once boarded, Lukas spoke. “Next, we’ll go to the twentieth floor. It’s the lightning element awakening room.”
It did not take long before they reached the 20th floor. Exiting the platform, they saw the same series of metal pillars they saw on the top floor. However, it didn’t stir the wind, but rather generate and conduct purple-colored electricity. Multiple lightning snakes bounced from one pillar to another, creating a net that almost covered the floor. Formation lines also ran along the surface of the walls. Whenever a stray lightning snake hit the wall, the lines lit up and the snake absorbed.
Lukas led the group to another glass room situated near the elevator.
He clapped. “This is the lightning element awakening area…” He pointed at another maroon mat in the center. Afterward, his head turned to Noah. “That’s the awakening area. Noah, I’ll ask you again. Do you think you can take another element?” Noah nodded.
“Good. Just go there and repeat the chant. Stay away from the pillars if you can. They won’t kill you, but they will certainly hurt.”
“Mhm.” Noah exited the room. The rest of the group picked their seats and watched him from the glass panels.
Without Lukas shielding him, Noah was instantly hit by a tiny slither of lightning. It shocked him, but he proceeded.
Along the way, he kept being harassed by small lines of electricity. He increased his pace as he didn’t need to balance himself like on the wind-awakening floor. Soon, he reached the center of the area.
Noah sat on the floor, with his legs crossed. He closed his eyes and controlled his breath. Soon he spoke.
“IN THE RULES OF THE FIRST MAGIC SYSTEM, I BRING MAGIC.”
Instantly, he felt the magic gather in his body. However, it was much more intense than last time. He adjusted his posture to remove the bloating sensation in his chest. He tried tensing his muscles, but the feeling never went away.
Fortunately, it stopped before it could go out of control and make him explode.
BAM!
Something huge struck him and his mind buzzed. The mana rebound of the mind. He couldn’t keep his posture and fell forward. Noah opened his dazed eyes. Next, he tried to slap himself, but his palm hit nothing. He raised himself using his hands and looked up.
He waved at the group hinting something had gone wrong. However, Lukas was already upon him.
When Noah faltered, Lukas immediately headed out of the room. He knew the mana rebound had severely affected Noah. So, Lukas rushed to his side.
“You okay?” He knelt and raised Noah to his shoulders. He then placed Noah behind his back, carrying him.
“Yeah… A bit disoriented though.” Noah gave a weak laugh.
Lukas carried Noah to the safe room and placed him inside one of the beds stationed on the opposite side of the glass panels.
Janice retrieved a water bottle from one of the storage compartments behind the bed and handed it to Noah. He accepted it and drank.
“You okay?” Janice asked as she checked Noah’s face.
Noah nodded and closed his eyes.
Lukas put a hand on his shoulder and insisted. “Take a rest and maybe sleep. Don’t check your soul sea yet, we’ll do that after James awakened his next element. Right now, I’ll take James to the earth element awakening area and come back after we’re done.”
Noah agreed and positioned himself in a sleeping position. Casa and Janice sat close to him, monitoring his breathing.
James, Lukas, and John left the safe room and boarded the elevator.
Waking up, Noah felt groggy. As if he drank a whole bottle of alcohol last night and was suffering from the hangover the next day. He focused and saw Janice sitting with her eyes closed, while Casa was typing something on his phone.
“Yo,” Noah called out and Janice opened her eyes and came closer, while Casa finished typing and put away his phone.
“How do you feel?” Janice asked.
“A bit better now.” Noah adjusted to a sitting position with Casa’s help. He pondered. “How did someone awaken three elements at the beginner level? I almost died just now.”
“Actually, it’s weird that you passed out from awakening your second element. You have a strong constitution, so you should be fine taking another element.” Casa emphasized.
Janice raised her hand. “You know, you might actually have awakened a strong magic type. Usually, complex magic such as dimensional magic types is a burden to a person’s mind. That would explain why you fainted earlier.”
“Haah, is that it?” Noah resisted checking his soul sea. “That means it’s a failed awakening though.”
“Maybe.” Janice just smiled.
