John picked them up the next morning and they traveled to the academy.
As they rode past the buildings, they noticed that the Academy is a bit similar to a western university in the past. It didn't take long to reach the administrative building. John parked the car, and they walked inside the building and into the enrollment office, where an officer was waiting for them, along with the vice president of the school.
Rome had already contacted the academy after Javier reported to him of the two Transported. Because of that, the enrollment finished quickly as the system uses their accounts to fill out most of the information. Both only had to verify their information and fill out the place where they were ‘dropped off'.
Afterward, the vice president gave them their IDs. He informed them of their classes Rome had mentioned; History and Magic History, Magic Theory, Material Studies, and Magical Beasts and where to find them. Next, he picked up the booklets and papers beside him and handed it to them. "These are your timetables and some of your booklets. Ask your professor to give you your other books."
Afterward, he left and one of the professors approached them from one of the rooms in the administrative building. She introduced herself as Janice and led them around the campus for a tour.
Looking around, Noah felt like he was back in his university. People streamed around, going in and out of buildings. Some littered around on open spaces, doing whatever they felt proper. Others watched another on their seats inside one of the lounges, enjoying the scent of caffeine on their hands.
A reminiscent look formed on his face, then he smiled.
The group walked to an open area where many students face a silver wall. The thick metallic wall stretched from one side of the area to the other end, while giving the aura of sturdiness.
Janice held out a hand. “This is the area where students train magic.” She stared at the students, and signaled with her eyes.
The newbie mages received her hint and stared at the two newcomers for a while, before back to practice their spells. Seeing someone cast a fireball, both of them became envious once again.
They watched for a while to see them cast magic. A student created tiny icicles that pierced the wall. After the icicles crumbled, the wall started healing until the damage disappeared. Another one created a wind slash, but the wall regenerated once again. Afterward, the same thing happened to other students who cast magic at the wall.
Seeing the two amazed by the sight, Janice pointed out. “The self-healing wall is created by Earth Magic. Then maintained by a mana generating formation below it.”
The two looked down but didn’t see the formation lines. Instead, Janice commented that the lines were actually connected via a hidden line wire under the wall, and the mana gathering formation is at the top of one of the buildings in the area as mana tends to be richer the higher the altitude.
Next, they visited a crowded area. Many students stood close to a large bulletin board in the east of the area. While some were conversing on the tables in the middle.
There were also a small kitchen and a canteen situated on the north and west side respectively.
Looking closer, the board had parchments stamped on it. Students picked up the papers before heading south of the area where they handed the papers to a lady sitting in front of a computer.
“The Adventurer’s Guild bulletin board. This is the place where students pick a quest to go on adventures.” Janice picked one of the quests and showed it to the group. “After choosing a quest, you need to hand it to the counter.” She pointed at the lady earlier.
“So, it works just like those in RPGs and light novels..” Noah exclaimed.
“Yes. In fact, the earliest mages created the Adventurer’s Guild based on those sources… Moreover, this area is added so that every student may feel at home.” Janice placed the quest back on the bulletin board.
That makes sense. I guess when magic was created, everybody tried to make their dreams possible. I wonder if clans or guilds exist. Noah smiled at the thought.
Next, they went to an arena. Two students were facing off on the stage. One of them cast a fire spear, while the other dodged it by turning into a shadow that moved to the left.
“This is the dueling arena. A testament that people would always like to show off their strength, so this was added as well...” She pointed at the man standing near the contestants then she continued.
“The protector, they help protect and prevent grievous injuries or worse, death. Be sure to have a protector if you ever want to step into the arena.”
The two nodded.
After watching the shadow mage defeat the fire mage with a shadow sword to the back, they proceeded to the classrooms.
The vice principal mentioned the Transported only needed to attend the afternoon classes, so most of the classrooms they visited were empty. However, there were some classrooms filled with students.
In one of them, teens and adults alike were listening to the bald instructor in front of the board.
“A study found out that the spell only worked on Transported who are over the age of fifteen. That means all of them are either high school students or working individuals. Of course, some were also uneducated. This lead to re-education program being added to the pre-existing Transported rescue initiative.” Janice waved at the students who waved back.
Noah looked at the board. They were learning math. He chuckled. Even if it’s a magical world, they still have to learn math. How unfortunate.
After leaving the room, they visited the Literature, Cooking, and Economics classes before going to their Magic Theory class.
The classroom is a traditional theatre-type setting. There aren’t any students except the blonde-haired instructor in the front. He was busy typing on his computer and looking at the papers on his desk that he didn’t notice the group enter the room. Janice coughed to get his attention.
She was successful as the man stopped his moving fingers. He stared at the group for a while before he approached them.
Janice smiled. “Noah and James, meet Lukas van Delve. Lukas meet Noah Royer and James William.”
“I’m Lukas. Nice to meet you.” He extended his hand to James who grabbed it and also introduced himself. He repeated the same thing to Noah.
“Lukas will be your Magic Theory and Combat instructor. He will teach you anything about magic, whether it be theoretical or combat magic. He's a former adventurer, so if you have any problems, please talk to him. He will gladly help.” Janice said with a smile.
Lukas also smiled but for a different reason. “They must be the two new students the director mentioned. Though I didn’t think you two will arrive at the academy this quick. But that’s a good thing. Have you two awakened your elements yet?”
Earlier today, Lukas was inspecting their profile in the system. He wanted to know their elements, so he can give specific advice for the newcomer’s magic development. But when he received the information, he found out the two had not awakened their elements. Moreover, the system report even said these two were ‘dropped’ three days ago.
They didn’t even have time to relax and adjust before being sent to the academy. Lukas sighed and shook his head.
It is known that most Transported spend usually a month adjusting to their new world.
But what he didn’t know was that the Peruvian city of Cusco did not have any capacity to take care of the two as they had just been attacked by a monster horde before. There were also unrest in the city due to crowded living facilities, and barely sufficient necessities.
Moreover, there is a chance for another monster attack, so everybody is on alert and unable to provide peaceful accommodations to Noah and James.
Still, after finding out they’re unawakened, Lukas used his free time before his class compiling basic information in different magic types. From the basic level to the advanced level, he needed to arrange the data based on advantages and disadvantages.
However, the two Transported had already arrived on his classroom before he could finish the guide.
Meanwhile, the two shook their heads and James said with a pleading face. “Actually, can you help us pick our magic?”
Lukas smiled. “Sure. I’ll even help you awaken your magic if we have extra time today.”
"Great." James said.
Casa and the patrol group never helped them choose the most suitable magic to awaken. In fact, all they did during their time with the two was show off their skills, tease them, or argue who’s the strongest among them.
Now, the instructor will help pick and awaken their best magic.
But truth be told, they only want Lukas to help them how to awaken magic. Since even awakening the most useless magic type would make the two happy.

“Very well. I can help you pick your element. Come in.” Lukas waved at the group to position themselves on one of the tables. He then gives Noah and James a piece of paper and a pencil each.
Noah and James sat in the front most seats, while Janice, Casa, and John placed themselves behind the two.
Lukas spoke. “First off, take notes. I want you to choose three types of magic you want to awaken…” He then raised his hand and made a V sign.
Then he narrated. “There are five levels of magic: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, Master, and one pseudo level: Grand…”
“Normally, a person can awaken one magic type per level. However, a Transported can awaken two and sometimes three magic types. That is because awakening depends on two factors: the person’s constitution, and the magic attribute of the mana particles around the person.”
“Your constitution is what allows you to take in more elements than a normal person.” At this point, Noah raised his hand.
“Does that mean a Transported can have twice or three times as many elements than a normal person?” He asked and Lukas shook his head. So many students have asked him the same question.
“No, usually your advantages disappear after the intermediate level. However, there were cases of a Transported awakening an extra element at the advanced level. That means you will at least have two more elements up to twice the elements of a normal magician. Do you understand?”
Noah nodded and Lukas continued.
“The magic attribute of the mana particles around you determines the chances of you getting that same magic type. For example, awakening in a fire-attuned environment increases the chance of getting the fire magic type.”
“So, if I want the light magic type, I need to surround myself with light?” James asked.
“Yes. In fact, awakening during sunrise also increases your affinity to light magic.” Lukas replied.
Seeing no one else has any more questions, he turned on the projector.
“Noah and James. Please take notes and remember to pick three types you want. Okay?” He asked. When he saw the two Transported nod, Lukas presented his compiled data.
For the next two hours, the middle-aged instructor presented different types of magic, their advantages, and their disadvantages. For example, fire magic is a powerful element with great area of effect but lacks mobility. The lightning element is similar to but also opposite of fire magic such that lightning attacks are concentrated and possess defense piercing abilities yet also lack mobility.
There is also an earth element that is one of the best defense type magic, along with space magic.
The wind element, which is the best mobility type magic, has decent power as well.
There are also dimensional types like the aforementioned space, stasis, contract, summon, and sound magic. However, they cannot be awakened normally.
This obviously puzzled the two as they asked Lukas why.
“Dimensional Magic is unique because its magic attribute is present everywhere. Essentially, awakening it is more like winning a lotto.”
..
Next was the two opposing magic categories: black and white magic. Black magic has shadow, psychic, necromancy, and dream magic usually used in society. White magic has light magic, illusion magic which is a subtype of light magic, and healing magic.
He also mentioned unique applications of certain magic such as the projection technique of light magic, the nightmare technique using dream and psychic magic, and the blink technique using space magic.
“Phew. That was a ton. So, what do you think? Any type you want to awaken?” Lukas smirked. That was more tiring than he thought. But thanks to his adventurous younger self, he had a decent knowledge of most element types.
James spoke first. “First I want to get the wind type. If I can’t kill the monster, I can just run.” This earned him a chuckle from everyone.
He continued. “Next, I will get an offensive element. So, maybe like fire type, lightning type, or light type.”
“Lastly, I would like defensive magic. So, either water or earth type.”
Lukas nodded and smiled. “Good choices. A powerful mage must have powerful attacks but most importantly be able to defend themselves. So many mages have died because they couldn’t move faster. However, have you thought about dedicating your elements to a specialized role like in a party?”
James frowned then changed to a smile. “Like a damage dealer, tank, or healer?”
“Yes, that’s the gist of it, but there are more roles like-“
Noah interrupted him. “Like a scout, support roles like a healer or buffer, and a controller.”
Lukas smiled. “You know your stuff, young man.”
Noah made an awkward laugh. “Thanks, I play RPGs when I have free time… However, if we take this path. Would that leave us vulnerable when we’re not at a party?”
Lukas pulled a whiteboard right off the projector screen and picked up the pen. He began scribbling. “Yes but mages usually have one element dedicated to themselves, so the strategy is picking two element types related to your role and one element dedicated to yourself. For example, a controller type would have plant, and earth magic types as role elements and an offensive or mobility type like wind or lightning element as their backup element.“
“Oh.”
This time, James slapped his hands. “I know now. I will pick the scout role, so my role elements would be wind and earth. As for my backup element, I’m picking an offensive type like the lightning element. Is that good?”
Earth element, huh? Lukas would never think using of using the earth element for only mobility. As earth element is better used for defensive magic. In fact, the shadow and light elements are more suitable for a scout than the earth element.
Eventually, he gave up thinking and nodded. “Yes, it is. The wind element is the best mobility type. Although, the earth element is more of a defensive element; however, it could also be used for mobility as well with spells like earth tunnel or earth wave. I would pick the shadow element over the earth, but I respect your choice...”
He then turned at Noah. “How about you, Noah?”
Noah raised the paper on the table and spoke. “I want to be the damage dealer in the group, so my role elements will be fire and lightning. I use will wind element type as a backup.”
“Good choices. Fire and lightning are two of the strongest magic types. So, now that you have picked your elements, I say we should awaken them, don’t you think?” Lukas smirked.
Finally!
The presentation was two freaking hours long and both struggled to keep their eyes open. After hearing what he said, the two perked up and grabbed their papers, and approached him.
Lukas pressed the power-off button in the projector and the screen disappeared. Next, he invited the rest of the group to come with him.
…
…
They arrived at the tallest building on the campus. Noah and James looked up and realized the building stood forty floors above the ground. Only 10 floors short of the Mage Association building they went in at Cusco.
Lukas led the group and spoke. “Come, we’ll awaken your wind magic first.”
