Characters
Raul Cross (age 20): After his father passed away, he was adopted by the current patriarch of the Vault Family, George Vault. He has a condition that makes his body reject qi when he absorbs it from the air and can’t cultivate as a result. The cause of this is unknown. He agrees to Marina’s deal to gain the ability to cultivate. For reasons unknown, his father kept his last name despite being an official member of the Vault Family and holding a high title, Raul has opted to do the same to honor him. His dream is to travel around the world. Likes traveling, girls, eating, partying, storytellers, and fighting.

Marina Cross (21): A descendant of the powerful Norn Family who’s married Raul. Filled with rage, she’s sworn revenge on someone and chose Raul as her tool of enacting said vengeance. She’s skilled in multiple professions and is Raul’s primary teacher. Likes anything that brings her closer to revenge.

Tai Vault (20): Son of the patriarch of the Vault Family. He and Raul have known each other all their lives and treat each other as close family members. He had to carry the burdens of being the son of the patriarch and took many responsibilities while growing up. Though the Patriarch position is not hereditary, he’s already been named successor due to his outstanding talent and capabilities. He’s a couple months older than Raul. His dream is to make the Vault Family a Duke rank household. Likes reading, studying seals, metalwork, partying, music, and drinking.

Ellen Vault (19): Tai’s personal guard/assistant and girlfriend. She met Raul and Tai four years ago and quickly grew a strong bond with them. She only started dating Tai recently. She has the rare shadow attribute. Her dream is to become a legendary beast master. Likes eating, teasing Tai, partying, beasts, fighting, and gambling(new).

George Vault (???): Tai’s father and Raul’s guardian. Though he was around often until the boys were fifteen, he’s now away at the fronts often and mostly interacts with the boys through an enhanced screen.

Matthew Vault (24): A young guard of the Vault Family. He’s a rare body cultivator in the family, because of that it’s been hard for him to progress. He’s straightforward and blunt, but he’s surprisingly easily embarrassed. His current dream is to get accepted into the Southern Academy before he ages pass the enrollment limit. Likes training, studying seals, music, and model making.

Mortal Nations

Nations are put in place to manage mortal day to day life. Mortal population is important to cultivators because most new cultivators come from mortal routes. It’s hard for cultivators of higher ranks to safely conceive a child, and it’s hard for a household to populate itself with just descendants. Nations receive rewards for producing cultivators, however cultivators are not allowed to hold any offices in mortal nations

Cultivators generally try not to get involved in mortal affairs, and violators of this are strictly punished. A mid-level cultivator can kill thousands of mortals in moments, such slaughters can seriously damage the population in a short time, which can have long lasting impact on the amount of cultivators produced.

Language

About twenty thousand years ago a mandate came down from all the high-level cultivators to change the taught language in every nation on every continent to a new universal one. Though many households and nations still teach their original language after teaching the universal one, thousands of old languages have been lost to time as a result of this mandate. Even though the language is the same everywhere, different dialects and accents can sometimes make communication difficult.

Household system

The household system is the predominant power system in the Western Continent. Households are ranked from Baron, Viscount, Earl, Marquess, and Duke in ascending order.

For mortal nations, the rankings are tied to the contribution of the household to that nation, through war, commerce, resource management, or cultivator production.

For cultivators, rankings of a household are tied to the number of high-level cultivators in the household and their strength, as well as their contributions on the front lines. Cultivator household rankings are connected to how many branches a household can open up. A Viscount Household like the Vault Family has one branch in the Southern Region, while a Duke Household like the Norn Family has four branches, one in each region.

Traditionally a person’s last name is changed to the household name when they join, it doesn’t actually mean they’re related.

Academy

The Western Military Academy is the strongest singular power in the Western Continent. Though they accept many students from households, their primary goal is to help loose cultivators achieve their full potential. For that sake, asides from the four main academies, they have hundreds of thousands of preparatory schools spread throughout the land to stop cultivators without any background from making silly mistakes like learning many Qi Cultivation Methods or skipping their smelting trials. Most books on cultivation in open market are also published by them.
