Cultivation
A cultivator is someone who uses the process of cultivation to evolve themselves. Cultivation is the process of absorbing Primordial Qi into the body and processing it through their Essence Heart. Raul was considered a non-cultivator despite being able to absorb Primordial Qi because his Essence Heart wouldn’t process it.
Qi
Primordial Qi: Primordial Qi is the natural qi the planet produces. It comes in various attributed forms and is intrinsically tied with all life and effects on the planet. Despite the intrinsic and omnipresent nature of Primordial Qi, humans without cultivation talent can’t interact with it on their own, as if they exist on two separate planes of existence.
Essence Qi: Essence Qi is the result of a cultivator processing Primordial QI with their Essence Heart. Though it theoretically can turn into all attributes like its predecessor, it is not as transformative as Primordial QI and tends to prefer a few attributes. A cultivator’s inclination to certain attributes is known as affinity. Raul’s affinity is wind, Ellen’s is shadow, and Tai’s is fire.
Beast Qi: Beast Qi is the beast equivalent of Essence Qi. Instead of an Essence Heart, beasts have a Beast Core. Beast QI is wilder and inherently stronger than Essence Qi.
Known Cultivation Realms
Refining: The first real step of a cultivator. Cultivators have thirteen additional organs that are formed in this realm, the dantian and the twelve meridians. The dantian fully forming is the signifier of entering this realm, but the twelve meridians are phantasmal until fully materialized. This difference is due to the meridians needing a higher quality qi than the Essence Heart’s processing can provide, therefor, a proper cultivation method and accumulation is required to materialize the twelve meridians and break through to the next realm. Raul, Marina, and Matthew are in this realm.
Spirit Ascension: The second realm of cultivation. This realm deals more with a mental change than a spiritual one. Range cultivators can operate their qi at becomes significantly larger in this realm. Ellen is in this realm
True Pillar: The bare minimum realm to be considered an elite. This realm is extremely crucial to the future development of a cultivator. A lot of people spend a long time in it, and it’s the realm where switching cultivation methods and other drastic changes are most common. Tai is in this realm.
Professions
Professions are non-combative ways for a cultivator to use their qi. It’s the use of qi for crafting, cooking, arts, raising, and sciences. Most Spirit Ascension Cultivators start learning a profession. There are many professions, and even more branch professions under them.
Known Professions
Physician: They’re extremely skilled at scanning the body for problems, but most can’t do anything about the issues themselves. Cultivators suffer many internal injuries that can be hard to find or deal with, so they are vital. A popular profession. The massages and acupuncture Marina uses are branches of this profession.
Immortal Chef: They turn dangerous qi, like Beast Qi, into Nourishing Qi which a cultivator can digest to improve themself. They’re a body cultivator’s best friend.
Immortal Smith: They make weapons and armor. The making of houses, fortifications, immortal boats, battleships, and siege weapons also falls under various branches of this profession.

Formation Master: They create spaces with set effects. A formation is a boundary with an inside, outside, and border. The effects of the formation will affect one or more of those positions, but most affect the inside or border. Difficult to master.
Beast Master: An advanced profession. They raise animals into Beasts by making artificial Beast Cores inside of them. Has a high bar of entry and is difficult to master.
Sealing Master: Creates special runes that seal qi or other powers. These special runes can be applied to most objects, but the object must be able to hold the power of whatever is being sealed. Has a high bar of entry.
Spirit Tailor: They deal in making special strings. These strings can be used as materials in a lot of professions, or a Spirit Tailor can further process them to make clothes. A popular profession.
Talisman Maker: They make talismans. Talismans hold prerecorded skills that can be activated by the user. They have a use limit depending on the skills of the maker, but most can be used at least three times and are controllable by the user. They do require qi and mental energy, so non-cultivators can’t use them, and it’s hard for cultivators to use ones much stronger than them. Amulet crafting is a branch of this profession.
Artificer: An advanced profession. Requires some knowledge on Talisman making and at least two other professions. They make artifacts, items with abilities more complex than weapons and armor. It’s an easy profession to start, but becomes harder and harder as you advance. Mirrors, spatial rings, and attribute testers are made by them.
Alchemist: They use various materials to make medical items. Pills, creams, powders, the bath solvents Marina used, all are the result of alchemy.
Healer: A profession made up of those with the talent to heal. The teaching of this profession is very personalized depending on a person’s talent and attributes.
Cultivator’s arsenal
Techniques/skills: Ways of using qi and meridians with relative safety. Skills have contingency plans and limits built into them to protect the user in case they make a mistake. Most of them also don’t use much mental energy.
Attribute/Qi Manipulation: Manipulation aims to get the same effect of skills on ones own. Skills are like an automatic while Manipulation is a manual. There are no safety nets involved and it’s easy for a qi deviation to kill a cultivator dabbling in Qi Manipulation. It also uses up considerably more mental energy than skills. The advantages are its greater flexibility and faster activation speed.
Technique Categorizing: Techniques are organized by matching activation type with effect type. Activation types are cast and channel. Cast activation uses a bundle of qi to activate the skill. No more qi or mental energy is expended in the use of the skill, regardless of how long the effects last, but the skill will have to be recast once the effects wear out. Channel activation requires a continuous stream of qi to keep the effect active, burdening the user with qi and mental energy cost in favor of adaptability and not having to recast.
Effect types are burst, enhancement, and augmentation. Burst has a quick and explosive effect, enhancements make something better at doing what it could already do, and augmentation adds new properties/capabilities. A fireball is a cast burst skill, a leg muscle enhancement movement technique is a channel enhancement skill, and giving a rock a sharp edge for a limited time is a cast augmentation skill.
Miscellaneous
Cultivation Methods: Cultivation Methods are techniques that change the properties of a cultivator. It has three branches, body, qi, and spirit. Though there are major differences depending on the type, all branches involve qi to some extent. The difference between Cultivation Methods and regular skills is that Methods involve runes instead of just meridians.
Runes: Runes are symbols that interact with Primordial Qi. They can use Primordial Qi in ways Essence Qi and meridians can’t. They’re a vital part of most professions, and are applied to the body in cultivation methods as well. Anyone aiming to truly master a profession aims to master runes as well. Runes don’t work without Essence Qi and Mental Energy. It’s why professions are strenuous work, and it’s also why Talismans, artifacts, weapons, and armors can’t be used by mortals.
