A few days passed. Naruto was getting used to living with Mikoto and her family. He was imposing himself more and more, irritating the young Sasuke. Itachi, on the other hand, was very discreet. Naruto had only seen him a few times. He was quite isolated, usually staying alone in his room or going on secret missions.
Managing all these people at the same time was not easy for Mikoto, who had hardly any time for her. She was often busy all day, encouraging Sasuke who was depressed in the face of his brother's power, forcibly accompanying Naruto to the academy, taking time to chat with Sasuke, and dealing with the internal conflicts between the two rivals.
Fortunately, Itachi decided to stay home one day. His presence soothed the two boys. Sasuke was far less concerned about Naruto's antics, and Naruto had always been rather calm around Itachi.
“If you only knew how your presence relieves me…” Mikoto whispered, at the end of the meal.
“Mother, take your day for yourself... You need it.”
Mikoto, surprised, didn't ask any questions, though. She took note of his advice and went out to clear her mind. She walked through the Uchiha District. She knew where to go...
Entering the Konoha Police, she met Shisui. Some Uchihas, present nearby, immediately raised their heads, intrigued, wondering what such a meeting could lead to. However, the two Uchihas passed each other without exchanging a word. Was it tension? Or on the contrary implicit mutual respect? Or perhaps both?
Regardless, Shisui let Mikoto go to Minato's cell, much to the astonishment of the Uchihas who witnessed the scene.
When she arrived, she found Minato, sitting cross-legged, pensive, staring at her as if waiting for her.
“Hello, Mikoto.”
“Minato…”
She sat cross-legged on the floor and looked at him through the bars.
“How is Naruto?” He asked.
“He’s fine.”
“Fine…”
“How about you?” Mikoto inquired.
“I’m all right.”
Mikoto smiled at him.
Not far from there, Shisui was leaving the building.
“Mikoto,” Minato continued. “I wanted to talk to you.”
“I should have known..” Mikoto suddenly understood, thinking back to Itachi’s words.
“It’s important.”
Mikoto didn't answer and listened.
“You must know that, despite my current position, I am still well-informed of the latest information from the village.”
“You're like him…” Mikoto whispered with tears in her eyes, thinking about Jiraiya.
“Unfortunately, the information I heard doesn’t augur anything good.”
Mikoto frowned.
“The organization that Orochimaru joined, Akatsuki, has been unusually active in recent weeks. The information received by the village even suggests that the reason would be my imprisonment and that they would also know about Kushina’s condition.”
“What?!” Mikoto exclaimed. “But... How could this information have reached them? Even the villagers know nothing…”
“There may be a spy among us.”
Shisui, having arrived at the meeting to which he was invited, sat across from Danzo, also present, as well as the Sandaime, his advisers, Tsunade and Hiashi.
“As you all know, confidential information seems to have leaked from our village,” The Sandaime said. “We have a spy among us.”
"That's why we called on you to participate in this meeting, Shisui Uchiha," Koharu said. “As Chief of Police, your role can be crucial.”
“And also because you are a potential suspect,” Danzo added, changing the atmosphere of the meeting.
Mikoto frowned.
“And you? What do you think, Minato?”
“It could be him. But he wasn't the only one who knew.”
Hiruzen intervened in the meeting.
“Danzo, Shisui is not the only suspect. We must take into account that others were also present.”
“Yes, the Uchiha clan for the most part.”
“The people working at the hospital as well, Danzo,” Shisui interrupted.
“They’ve been under ANBU surveillance since the incident. No one was able to leave the village. However, we can’t say the same regarding the Konoha police.”

“In that case, we should also suspect the members of the Root, of which you are a part. I doubt you're under special ANBU surveillance…” Shisui calmly replied.
Minato yawned. His days in prison were boring.
“Shisui, Danzo... Both of them hide their game well. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of them.” Mikoto said.
“It could also be Hiashi.”
“Do you think that…”
“Of course not. I'm just stating everyone who knows. Tsunade, the Sandaime, or one of his advisers as well.”
“Well, and you while we're at it!” Mikoto quipped.
“Or you,” Minato replied.
Mikoto fell silent.
“Let’s not accuse each other,” Hiruzen said. “The enemy wants that. From now on, I will consider that anyone who expresses their doubts, without evidence, about another person is trying to stir up trouble, and they will therefore be the first suspect.”
“It should be noted that all this was done quickly,” Homura intervened. “Maybe we weren't careful enough and maybe Minato's arrest, as well as Kushina's condition, didn't go unnoticed due to our negligence?”
“Impossible,” Danzo said. “Significant means have been put in place by the Root…”
“Yeah, as usual, Tsunade replied. The Root is always doing dirty tricks in the shadows…”
“Don’t forget that those dirty tricks sometimes suited you,” Danzo calmly answered Tsunade.
“But anyway, if the leaks had taken place by our simple negligence, then the news would have spread to the village as well. Such events would not go unnoticed. The inhabitants would talk about it and would seek to know more. However, it is not the case. This means that the Akatsuki was informed in a different, more direct way. This again brings us back to the question of the suspect.”
“I would like to know if a member of the Hyuga clan could have seen the scene with his or her Byakugan,” Hiruzen asked Hiashi.
Everyone in the room was surprised by Hiruzen's question.
“It is indeed possible,” Hiashi admitted.
“But very unlikely,” Danzo added, who surprisingly seemed to defend the Hyuga clan.
“It remains a possibility,” Hiashi insisted. “Especially since some members saw me rushing off towards the hospital, I could have been watched.”
He turned to Shisui.
“However, given the relationship between our respective clans, I think it would be best if I investigate my side… to avoid some unnecessary tensions.”
Shisui nodded.
“Good,” Koharu said. “Now that we've rounded up the suspects, another question arises... Konoha no longer has any jinchuriki, and the enemy knows it. We need to act fast.”
“Indeed,” Homura said. “We must think of a new receptacle for the Nine-Tails…”
There were a few seconds of silence.
“Wait,” Tsunade said. “You're not seriously thinking of removing it from Kushina, in her state?”
“Tsunade, the safety of the whole village is at stake…” Danzo said.
She glared at him.
“Taking a Biju away results in the death of the jinchuriki. Kushina's chakra may be special, but she wouldn’t survive extracting Kyubi from her. Besides, I don't even know if it is possible, in her condition. And then, we have to find a new host for it... Kyubi is not a Bijuu like the others!”
“We know that,” Danzo replied. “Only two people in this village can claim to be potential hosts, Naruto Uzumaki...
“Naruto? He's just a child!”
“And you, Tsunade.”
There was another silence.
“You know, Minato,” Mikoto said, standing up. “I would love to face you in a one-on-one duel one of these days.”
Minato was surprised by her words as Mikoto walked away.
“But first, I have a lot of things waiting for me. Unlike others, I can't afford to spend my days sitting around and waiting for things to happen.”
She winked at him.
“By the way, isn't today the day you train your little student, Kakashi Hatake? You do this every month, don’t you?”
Minato didn't answer.
“He must miss you, Minato."
