Chapter 8: Wow

As we approached the edge of the town, I could see a woman standing there with her back to us, but even from behind, I could tell that she was breathtaking. She had long, flowing hair that cascaded down her back in gentle waves and curves that would make any man's mouth water. Considering that I was told I would not like her, I couldn't take my eyes off her.

 

"Wow," I whispered under my breath as we got closer, and Fiona giggled before squeezing my hand gently. 

 

"She is beautiful," Fiona said in agreement as we came to a stop a few feet away from her, and the woman turned around to face us with sparkling blue eyes. 

 

"Hello! You must be Azriel! Fiona has told me so much about you!" The woman said while stepping forward and giving me a hug which caught me by surprise because I wasn't expecting it. It was only then when she stepped away from me did I realize how perfect her body was, with creamy white skin that looked smooth as silk.  

 

 "Y-yeah... it's nice to meet you too," I managed to stutter out while trying not to get lost in those captivating eyes of hers, but then Shadowfax appeared next to us abruptly and cleared his throat loudly before everyone turned toward him with wide eyes like they had forgotten he was there. 

 

"I hate to interrupt, but I believe we should be going now if we don't want to be seen by humans! You are going to have to figure out how you are going to get her back into the castle! It is not safe for us out in the open, or other Hunters will be called!" Shadowfax hissed and then vanished into a shadow as I started to hear some voice coming this way. 

 

"Come on! We need to go!" Fiona said while grabbing my hand and pulling me into a run with Melty following close behind us. 

 

We wove our way through the streets quickly until we arrived at the castle, and Fiona pushed me inside with Melty close behind us before following after me and shutting the door firmly.

 

"Gah! That was much too stressful! I really hope no one sees us, or there will be talk all over town, and Queen Melodious really doesn't need that right now. People are already on edge about her ruling them and not being human. If we start bringing monsters into the castle all the time, people are going to start to revolt for sure!" Fiona said with a sigh of relief while leaning against the door and closing her eyes. 

 

"I'm sorry; I didn't mean to cause so much trouble," Melty said apologetically while wringing her hands together nervously. 

 

"No, it's not your fault; we just need to be more careful in the future. Maybe we can sneak you in through the servant's entrance next time? There is a lot less foot traffic back there," Fiona suggested while opening her eyes and looking at me, but I was still focused on Melty, who looked like she was about ready to faint from all of this excitement.  

 

 "Are you alright?" I asked as I stepped closer to her and placed my hand on her shoulder gently in an attempt to comfort her, which only seemed to make things worse as she started shaking uncontrollably.

 "I-I don't know... This is all just so sudden! First, I am attacked by some kind of demon thing that can transform into anyone it wants! Then, Fiona shows up out of nowhere with some human that she claims is gonna save us! It all just seems so surreal!" Melty exclaimed before finally fainting dead away into my arms which caused me to fall backward onto the floor with a thud and knock the wind out of myself momentarily and Melty to hit her head. 

 

"Azriel! Are you alright?" Fiona asked in a panic as she rushed over to me and knelt down by my side, but I just waved her off while trying to catch my breath.  

 

"I'm fine... Just help me get her up on the bed, would you?" I said after a moment while attempting to stand up with Melty's limp body in my arms, and Fiona nodded before leading the way into one of the bedrooms.  

 

We placed Melty down on top of the bed gently before she started to stir slightly and moan softly, which caused both Fiona and me to sigh in relief that she was coming around. 

 

 "What happened? Where am I?" Melty asked groggily while rubbing her head as if she had gotten a headache from all of this excitement which caused Fiona to chuckle softly. 

 

 "Don't worry; you just fainted, is all! You hit your head when you fell, though," Fiona explained while walking over to where we had left our bags near the door. 

 

 "I see... Well, that has never happened before," Melty said with a frown as she attempted to sit up, only for me to push her back down onto the bed firmly but gently so that she wouldn't hurt herself any further.  

 

 "Just stay there for now until you have fully recovered; we don't want anything happening to you," I said while walking over to where Fiona was and watching as she started to rummage through one of the bags. 

 

"Here you are! This will help with the pain and make sure that you don't have a concussion!" Fiona said while holding up a small vial for me to see, but I just frowned at it.  

 

 "What is that?" I asked curiously because it looked like water with some type of plant floating inside of it. 

 

"It's called willow bark tea; my mom used to make it all the time when we were kids whenever we got hurt," Fiona explained while uncorking the vial and walking back over towards Melty, who was now lying down with her eyes closed. 

 

 "Here, drink this; it will help take away the pain," Fiona said while holding the vial up to Melty's lips, but she just turned her head away slightly and frowned.
