OF COURSE, it just had to be Amethyst's mansion.

Out of every rich person in this town it just had to be Amethyst who lives in the subdivision very near to Laia's.

Great. Splendid. Brilliant. Amazing!

Due to the girl's internal turmoil, she failed to notice that Amethyst was already in front of her as she had opened the gate. "Laia?"

"Uh," Laia sheepishly waves. "Hi,"

Amethyst smiles, her white set of teeth almost sparkling. Laia wonders what toothpaste does the other girl use.

"I don't want to be rude and it's not that I don't want to see you," It was obvious by the tone the girl was using that she was really trying not to be rude. "But isn't it a bit too late for you to visit-- Oh."

The smile on her face disappeared and was replaced by an annoyed expression. Laia turned around and saw that the reason why the girl's mood suddenly soured was due to a certain actor carrying his younger brother on his back.

"Hi beloved," Sawyer grins wolfishly as he leans in to kiss the girl on the cheek when he was close enough. "Do you mind if we crash for the night?"

Amethyst rolled her eyes but makes no movement to block any of her nightly visitors from coming inside. "It's not like I can just kick you out when you're already inside of my property,"

The boy laughs. "No kiss for me, then?"

"Don't test me," She glares at him. "I'll tell the guards to tighten the security so go in first,"

Sawyer blows her another kiss before making his way towards the mansion that was quite far from the gate without another word.

Laia raised an eyebrow at what just happened in front of her. Were they still together after all?

Yet based on how Amethyst treated Sawyer in an almost nonchalant manner Laia finds it difficult to think of what she just thought was true.

Various trees and flowers decorated the sides of the path that led to the mansion. Statues of animals and humans stood side by side on each corner of the mansion's front door.

Laia wouldn't be surprised at this point if someone tells her that Amethyst was secretly a princess in hiding at how beautiful and huge her property was.

Thalia whistled when they reached the mansion, fawning over the small diamonds that were carved across the linings of the front door. "Are these real?"

Sawyer opens the door with a kick. "Yeah, but don't worry about dirtying them or anything," He lays his younger brother down on one of the sofas on what Laia thinks is the living room. "Ame has lots of those,"

"Lots of what?" Andrei asks as he sits down on one of the sofas opposite the sofa where the asshat was.

"Diamonds," Sawyer sauntered towards the kitchen and takes a bottle of wine from the refrigerator. "Wine, anyone?"

Everybody shook their heads in unison making the actor shrug and drink from the bottle without a single care.

Until the owner of the house came in, that is.

"Is that my wine?"

Sawyer was quick to hide the empty bottle behind his back but when Amethyst placed her hands on her hips the boy immediately handed her the bottle.

Grimacing, Amethyst throws the bottle on the trash can. "That was an eighteenth-century bottle,"

"I'll buy you a fifteenth-century one," Sawyer kisses her on the cheek again. "Can you take a look at my younger brother?"

At this point, Laia doesn't even know what was happening. A week hasn't even passed when Sawyer punched his younger brother outside Brewing due to Amethyst and now he's asking her to take care of him.

What the hell?

Jake seemed to share the same thoughts as Laia as he sat closer to the still unconscious asshat. "Are you a doctor?"

"Do I look like a doctor?" Amethyst replies, raising an eyebrow.

"More like a model," Andrei doesn't even bother hiding his admiration for the girl. "How do you know Samuel?"

At least someone around here knew the right question to ask, Laia thinks.

Regardless of her knowing that the asshat and Amethyst were romantically involved, it just didn't make sense that if Sawyer knew that his brother and his fiancee were together then why would he act like everything was okay?

What's the point of punching your brother when you're still going to lead him to your so-called fiancee later on?

Amethyst ignores the question and crouches down to check if the asshat was still breathing. When she deemed that he was, she turned towards the group behind her. "You should all get some rest, you won't be of any help anyway,"

Laia's eyes widened at how blunt she was. Just earlier and the last time they talked Amethyst seemed like a different person than she is now.

Not that the girl minds. She honestly thinks this version of Amethyst is way better than how she was when she tried so hard to be of how people imagined her to be especially since she was a social media influencer and everyone knew her.

Except for Laia.

"Um," Thalia fidgets nervously. "Where should we stay?"

Laia turned her with a bewildered expression. Was she seriously okay with the idea of staying for the night in this intimidatingly luxurious mansion?

Who was Laia kidding, she was probably the only one among her companions who weren't used to all these luxuries around her.

Amethyst beckoned Sawyer over who seemed to be already drunk based on his flushed face. "Just when I thought that you're already used to drinking," She pushes him away when he leans in close. "I told you not to drink any of my wine,"

"It's really good, though?"

She rolls her eyes as she pushes the actor towards the same couch where Jake and the asshat were. "Stay there and take care of your younger brother,"

"I'll be leading your friends to their rooms for the night," Amethyst looks at each and every one of her guests. "You're not opposed to an all-white themed bedroom, right?"

With no one opposing to what she just said, Amethyst walked in an almost elegant manner towards the stairway and stopped in front of a bedroom. She opens the door and beckoned the group to enter.

The bedroom was probably bigger than Laia and her mother's rooms combined. Just like how Amethyst told them that the bedroom was white-themed, it indeed was. From the walls to the tiles and even to the curtains. The bedsheets were a combination of beige and white though but Laia would probably still be terrified of leaving a single speck of dirt on the sheets.

The social media influencer makes her way to the air conditioner that she turned on with a remote. Within a few minutes, the room was immediately cold and even made Laia lean a bit closer to Thalia who chuckles at her reaction. "Are you not used to this temperature?"

Laia nods. "Yeah,"

"I don't really set the temperature to my room this cold either," Thalia whispers. "But it's not like we can tell her that right? Let's just adjust it later when she leaves,"

"I'll be leaving you then," Amethyst says after using another remote to play a classical tune. "Just ring the bell for a maid."

"Thank you," Laia says when none of her companions said it first as they seemed to be distracted by the moving lights on the ceiling that came along with the classical music that filled the room. "Have a great night,"

Amethyst smiles and gently pats Laia's cheek before closing the door behind her.

Jake was the first to speak after a few moments of silence. "This is a nice room,"

Thalia lets out a laugh after laying down on the bed and propping her chin in her hands. "Is that your idea of small talk?"

"That was awkward," The tall boy chuckles and swiftly ties his hair in a short ponytail before fanning himself. "It's still hot,"

Laia couldn't restrain herself from scowling at the boy as she pulled the sheets closer. "Are you kidding me?"

Andrei agrees with a nod as he turns the temperature lower using the remote that was near him. "It's not even Christmas yet,"

"It's already December, though?"

"Yeah, but we're still on the second week,"

Andrei and Thalia continued their banter while Laia contemplated whether to call her mother or not regarding her current situation. Maybe her mother can read her mind because just as Laia was about to press dial her phone rang loudly.

Her companions turned to her. Laia sheepishly leaves the room before answering her phone with hushed tones, not wanting anyone to hear her. "Mom?"

"Laia? Where are you? It's already eleven!"

She guiltily sits down on the floor. "Uh, we have a group project,"

As if her mother would believe that lie.

"Oh?" Laia could almost see her mother's eyebrows knotting. "With Brie?"

"Uh, no,"

A moment of silence. "With who then? No offense dear, but you don't exactly like being groupmates with your other classmates,"

Laia rolled her eyes. It's not like they were allowed to choose their groupmates anyway.

"I'm with Jake," She decides to be honest. "You know, Brie's boyfriend?"

More like an ex-boyfriend but her mother doesn't have to know.

"Oh, the tall one with long hair?"

"Uh-huh," She steals a glance at what was happening downstairs and saw an unfamiliar man pressing an ice pack to the asshat's face. Amethyst and Sawyer were nearby and were talking in hushed tones. "I'll be back tomorrow,"

"Okay. Just stay safe and text me when you leave that Jake's house,"

Not that they were in Jake's house but Laia choose not to tell her mother that.

"Okay, mom. Good night."

"Good night, dear."

She ends the call after that and was about to steal another peek at the situation downstairs but stopped herself when she noticed Amethyst's eyes on her.

Shit!

Laia enters the room she shared with her companions in a frenzy and was surprised to see that Thalia and Andrei were already asleep.

Jake was still watching a documentary and waves at Laia. "Your mother?"

"Yeah," Laia positions herself on the space next to Thalia. "You're not sleeping yet?"

"I'll probably check on Samuel later," He lowers the volume of the television. "How about you?"

"Sleeping already,"

"Okay," He laughs softly. "Good night."

Laia wasn't able to mutter a response as the moment she hugged the pillow beside her she had already fallen into a deep slumber.
