“A miserable end will be waiting for that wench.”

Realizing that there was now no way for Lydia to manipulate anyone, Elena let out a sigh of relief. As Hansen said, Lydia did not deserve to exist.

“The captain will be here soon. Let’s all move and get ready to greet him!” Hansen announced.

Elena’s body was horribly sore and screaming violently in pain from being thrown on the floor; even so, she managed to stand up with Rowena and Marina’s help. Everyone started to move busily. Hansen and William moved the bodies scattered throughout the hall, and Lenoa instructed the maids to clean the floor with wet mops. It seemed like they wanted to create a tidy place to greet Gareth, not one stained with blood. After all, it made sense to do so since he was the one who emerged victorious from his battle with Logan. A bright smile bloomed on Elena’s face.

Seeing the cleaning come to an end, Elena requested Hansen, “Take me to Gareth, please. I’m sure he’s worried about me.”

However, William butted in with a worrisome expression. “The situation might be dangerous out there, Lady Elena. Let’s wait in the castle just in case.”

Elena showed a charming smile in response and said, “Gareth would have taken care of all the dangerous things. I believe him, and I can’t let him worry any longer. William, please take care of my sisters and Lenoa. Hansen, let’s go.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Hansen replied.

Hansen carefully helped Elena walk by having her hold onto him. Elena took small steps forward in excitement, thinking, ‘I won’t sit here and wait for Gareth. I’ll go out there and greet him. He must be anxiously waiting for me. He must be… worried about me.’

Hansen and Elena had not walked for too long when they heard the sound of a horse rushing toward them. Reflexively, Hansen quickly pulled out his sword, but he let down his guard when he realized that the man on the horse was Cobain.

Barely wielding his sword with throbbing arms, Giggs watched Gareth with a dreary expression. ‘There’s no way I can stop him. He has gone completely insane. No one can stop him now, but…’ Giggs turned his attention toward the women and children who were screaming and wailing in fear. He had done his best until now to not kill them, forcefully pushing them to the side while battling Logan. But now…

Giggs gritted his teeth again. ‘I can’t give up now. By the way, why is that damn Cobain so slow to check whether Madam is alive? God damn it!’

Meanwhile, Gareth strode toward the vulnerable and innocent people, who had gathered together and were trembling in fear.

Watching his superior, Giggs mumbled to himself as if he had made a decision. “We’ve been pretty good, haven’t we?” His comrades looked at Giggs with pale faces. The same thought crossed everyone’s mind at that instant. Giggs straightened his shaking body and spoke with a plaintive voice, “It was all thanks to our boss that we were able to live until now, so I will be happy to die by his hand. Let’s all die together. I’ve lived a very good life thanks to you all.”

“Thank you, everyone.”

“Thank you for accompanying me until now.”

The remainder of Gareth’s men calmly exchanged goodbyes. It was Gareth who had rescued them in moments of crisis; his hands had saved their lives, and the same hands would now end them as well. Wanting to die rather than watch Gareth kill himself, the men lined up in front of Gareth, blocking his way. Drenched in blood, Gareth stood still, his breathing light and even. His indifferent, pitch-black eyes contained nothing but bloodlust.

“We’ll go with you.” Giggs took a defensive stance. The rest of Gareth’s men did so as well, and soon, the shrill metallic sounds of swords echoed in the air.

Clang! Clang!

Elena, who had been rushing Hansen to go faster, could clearly see what was happening once she reached the villages. She saw Gareth swinging his sword at the nine men, pushing them back mercilessly.

“The captain is beside himself after hearing Lydia’s lies about Madam being dead,” Cobain, who had rushed to the castle, had said.
