Yi Liling looked around Ao Ruang’s new living space and whistled impressed “I did not know you were this talented boy! I leave you for a couple days and you got us this great place to stay.”

Ao Ruang had gotten Yi Liling as soon as Lin Yi left. Students directly under elders were allowed to have one servant to accompany them. Often they were servants of rich families who allowed them to cultivate alongside them for additional protection, but since Yi Liling was his only source of reliable food he couldn’t leave her outside. He was grateful that he seemed to be able to drink from her once a day and it didn’t appear to inhibit her health at all. In fact she often seemed to look forward to his cravings now.

“I guess I am quite talented aren’t I?” Ao Ruang said giving Yi Liling a smirk “you are dazzled by my talent?”

“Oh yes, most certainly Master!” Yi Liling said, rolling her eyes.

Without wasting much time Ao Ruang described his first day’s events to her leaving out some of the minor details.

“Sounds like this woman has a thing for collecting talents, but that means she is going to want to raise you up well so it can only benefit you even if she has her own goals for doing so.” Yi Liling pondered allowing her thin finger to tap her lower lip as she gave the entire situation some thought.

Ao Ruang couldn’t help but find Yi Liling attractive when she did this which only gave rise to a slight tinge of hunger. It was just enough for him to notice.

The room wasn’t massive, but it was large enough to have a sizable bed and a couch to lounge on with enough storage to allow both him and Yi Liling to hold all their belongings which to be fair wasn’t much at all. There was a small side room for servants where they could rest and from there a small bathing room. Overall it was a step up even from his small home in the mountains in many ways.

Taking out a small mirror Ao Ruang launched himself onto the bed and began to lounge as he looked at his crimson eyes. They swirled in his Irises like flowing blood. This really was going to be a long term problem if he couldn’t figure out a consistent way to deal with the color change besides feeding on Yi Liling. It wasn’t like he would have access to her twenty-four seven.

Not wishing to waste the new day he quickly got up and looked over to Yi Liling who rolled her eyes sensing what he was thinking about and slid her sleeves up to reveal her dainty wrist. “Try not to take too much. I don't want to sleep all day. I would like to go to the market in the sect and get some clothes for the both of us since you got an initial allowance.”

Ao Ruang walked over and gave her a small bow and proceeded to indulge himself.

Yi Liling’s scent hung in the air after he fed and he quickly left the room before checking the mirror to see his crimson eyes had returned to their normal brown color. The Ghostly Whisper sect was immense and it took him longer than he thought to remember where to find the lecture hall where one of the elders would be teaching the new recruits.

By the time Ao Ruang entered the elder who was a elderly man known as Elder Cheng with a long black beard with a skunk-like stripe down the center his face gave a disinterested to slightly irritated look before he clearly recognized Ao Ruang. Ao Ruang couldn’t help, but curse his luck as he looked at the grumpy looking elder.

“It seems one of our new students has an issue with being timely. So as is a rule for my class, anyone late must answer a question!”

“Elder Cheng I apologize for my tardiness I had gotten lost wh--”

“Silence! I don’t have time for excuses.” he interrupted “tell me which dark race that is now extinct was long considered the deadliest and most fearsome of all the dark races?”

Ao Ruang froze as he didn’t know much about the continent's history at all since his village in the mountains didn’t view it as relevant to day to day living.

“Elder Cheng. I don’t know the answer.”

With a nod Elder Cheng motioned him to take a seat swiftly which Ao Ruang obliged. “It is good to admit when you don’t know rather than guess that attitude will serve you well, Disciple Ao.”

“The answer to that is what many called the Vampyre who for all intents and purposes look identical in almost every way to humans. Save for one thing...they feasted on the blood of the living. Particularly important were martial warriors who had spiritual ki in their veins.” he stated pointing to a picture of a normal looking human figure, but with blood red eyes.

When Ao Ruang heard about feasting on blood, his eyes lit up with excitement. This was the first time he had learned about something that was similar to himself; something was going to be vital to his future. It had to be fate he was learning something practical about himself potentially on the first day.

“Elder Cheng!” Ao Ruang nearly yelped out “What can you tell us about the Vampyre race? Are there any left?”

“Researchers from all over the continent have determined that there are none of that brood left on this continent and thank the heavens for that! After the last wars between humanity and the dark races they were thoroughly annihilated and the rest of the dark races drove into the dark recesses of the continent. As for more information, talk to me after class and I will get you a token pass that you can read more on this. I personally am not an expert on the vampyre.”

Turning back around, Elder Cheng continued to lecture on the basics of cultivation and how to best harness and use Ki. Which Ao Ruang had been sorely lacking for many years coming from a small town isolated from much of the outside world.

The class droned on for another hour before Ao Ruang was finally able to approach Elder Cheng “Elder! Do you have the token pass? I find the dark races extremely interesting.”

Elder Cheng looked at Ao Ruang with an inquisitive look. “Yes. Most youth do it has been many centuries since any significant contact with dark races has been made. Humanity has been busy with wars amongst ourselves. Be sure to return it.” The Token pass flew through the air right into Ao Ruang’s grasp.

“Thank you Elder Cheng!” Ao Ruang bowed to which Elder Cheng grunted as he backed his bag to leave the classroom.

The Ghost Whisper sect was massive for a sect located beneath the streets of the city. The central building which acted both as a support beam and the central hub for all things students would need in the academy. The rest of the academy was dedicated to elders and different factions within the sect.

Ao Ruang climbed up the stairways to the large library giving his token to the guards he entered with no problem. Rummaging through the nearly endless and maze-like library he spotted the books on dark races.

‘The Origin of Dark Races’

‘Dark Races weaknesses’

‘Those who creep at night’

‘The Comprehensive guide to Dark Races’

With only the ability to grab one he didn’t hesitate to grab the first and last one they were exactly what he was looking for. Turning around he rapidly made his way back to the dorms where Yi Liling would be waiting for him. It was time for him to learn more about what happened to him.
