Chapter 10: 10 Hunting (2)

‘The skin looks very tough.’

Enzo reached down curiously to touch the corpse of the boar he and Pepper just killed. 

Unexpectedly, he got a system message after his hand made contact with the corpse.

[Would you like to loot this Wild Demon Boar? Yes/No]

Enzo raised an eyebrow in surprise before turning to Pepper.

“Touch the boar and tell me what pops up.” He said.

She did as he said, but after a few seconds pulled her hand back.

“Nothing popped up.” She said with a frown on her face. 

“Hmm. It asked me if I wanted to loot the animal, I wonder why it didn’t ask you the same.” Enzo said with a thoughtful expression. 

“Maybe it’s because you’re the one who killed it?” Pepper said.

“No, you were the one who got the final blow, remember.”
“Oh, yeah. Well then maybe it’s because of your class.”
“Yeah, that makes sense.”
Enzo reached back down and touched the corpse again. 

This time he selected yes when the holographic screen appeared. 

The corpse immediately turned into white pixels that scattered with the wind.

Enzo read the list out loud so Pepper would know what the loot contained. 

He then took 1 tusk, 3 bones, and 5 bronze coins out of his inventory and gave them to Pepper. 

She accepted her share of the loot and put it in her own inventory. 

Pepper and Enzo then continued their journey through the forest. 

They didn’t find any more tracks until after 10 minutes or so. 

“There’s tracks leading up ahead, but there seems to be a lot of them.”
“How many can you see?”
Pepper started counting as they followed behind the tracks slowly to not lose them as they disappeared. 

“I think there are at least 5 different monsters moving in a pack. Do you want to fight them?”
“Let’s go see what type of monsters they are first.” Enzo suggested. 

He sheathed his sword and followed after Pepper. 

The sword was starting to feel heavy. It wasn’t a light object, and Enzo wasn’t very strong anyway, so it was hard to keep holding the object throughout the whole journey. It was much easier to keep it sheathed on his back until he needed it. 

After another few minutes of following the tracks, Enzo and Pepper finally caught up with the monsters. 

[Rabbid Rabbit]

[Level 2]

[HP: 25/25]

3 of the 5 monsters were level 2 rabbits. 

[Rabbid Rabbit]

[Level 3]

[HP: 40/40]

The next one was a level 3 rabbit. 

[Rabbid Rabbit]

[Level 4]

[HP: 60/60]

The final rabbit was level 4…

“I’m not sure if we should risk hunting a level 4 just yet.” Pepper suggested.

Normally Enzo would agree with her. He is usually an overly cautious and overly paranoid person, so he doesn’t take many risks in life, but this time was different. 

Enzo’s intuition was telling him that they would be able to take down these monsters. 

“I would usually agree, but I have a feeling we will be okay.”
“You want to risk our lives on just a feeling?” Pepper asked skeptically.

“Yes.”
“...”

“Sigh. Alright.”
Enzo then began focusing on the Rabbid Rabbits, and more specifically on the level 4 rabbit. 

“Let me handle the level 4, while you distract the others until I am done.” He whispered to Pepper. 

“Leave it to me.” She then moved to leave the area and circle around the rabbits. 

“Wait.” Enzo called out.

Pepper turned back around and Enzo said, “Aim for the ears or the chest, those are their soft spots.”
She nodded and turned back around. 

Enzo could see the golden glow coming from both the chest and ears of the Rabbid Rabbits, and he now knew that was his insight skill activating. 

[You have marked a Rabbit Rabbit as your prey.]

Enzo slowly took his bow from his shoulder and placed it into his left hand. 

He had to do his stance while crouching, but he was confident in his ability to at least hit the rabbit. 

Enzo began slowing his breathing and knocked an arrow before taking aim.

The rabbits had their heads down eating the grass, so they never even saw the Fae hunters coming. 

After letting out a deep breath, Enzo let the arrow fly.

Woosh!

Before the rabbit could get up, Enzo knocked another arrow and let it fly.

Enzo quickly opened his stats screen and added his two points into agility.

His stats now looked like this:

Enzo then dismissed his stats and charged towards the remaining rabbits just in time to see Pepper stabbing the level 3.

[+10 exp]

The remaining 3 rabbits were hopping around Pepper and attempting to bite her. 

She jumped around constantly to avoid them, and occasionally sent out slashes with her daggers. 

Once Enzo joined the fight, they were able to make quick work of the rabbits.

Enzo stabbed his own daggers at the head of a rabbit that was trying to bite Pepper.

“Only one?” Enzo mumbled. 

He didn’t have much time to think about it because another rabbit came flying at his face. 

Enzo dodged to the side and stabbed it through the body.

At the same time, Pepper killed the last rabbit.

Enzo once again got 1 experience point from it.
