Chapter 9: 9 Hunting (1)

“Better at tracking? How?” Enzo asked. 

“I have a skill called Tracking that allows me to see footprints or tracks of anything as long as the prints aren’t older than 30 seconds.”
“Wait, so does that mean you have been seeing the footprints of every person in the village this whole time?”
“Yeah, it was annoying at first, but I have gotten used to it. Everyone’s footprints appear in red, so it looked like a sea of red on the ground.” Pepper answered in an exasperated tone. 

“Let’s go west.” Enzo suggested after a minute or two of walking in the forest. 

They needed to get away from this large crowd of players. 

He couldn’t go 10 feet without encountering another player or a party of players. 

Some of them were fighting monsters, or small animals, but many of them seemed to be on the losing end.

Pepper and Enzo walked west for 30 minutes before they were able to leave the big group of players. 

“I will start looking for tracks now.” Pepper informed him.

Enzo nodded and unsheathed his sword before following behind him.

‘She must really trust me.’
Pepper showed no hesitation in allowing Enzo to walk behind her with his weapon out. 

He could have easily betrayed her right then and there. 

Obviously he wasn’t going to, that’s just not the kind of person Enzo is. 

He repays kindness with even more kindness, and vileness with even more vileness. 

After a few minutes of aimlessly walking through the forest, “I got something.” Pepper whispered back to Enzo. 

She drew her daggers and crouched down before following the tracks she found. 

Once they got close to a clearing in the trees, they finally saw the beast. 

[Wild Demon Boar]

[Level 2]

[HP: 40/40]

“Level 2… Should we fight it?” Enzo whispered. 

Pepper shrugged her shoulders. 

The beast looked like a large boar with huge white tusks. It had dark red skin and matching red eyes. 

It was currently walking around aimlessly in the clearing. 

Enzo tried to focus on the boar in preparation for a fight. 

“When I get to 0, we attack.” He whispered to Pepper. 

She nodded in confirmation. 

[You have marked a Wild Demon Boar as your prey]

“3. 2. 1. 0.”
The two bolted out from the cover of the bushes towards the boar. 

“Grrr.”
It grunted and quickly spun around once it heard the noise from the two Fae running at it. 

Enzo went to the left and Pepper to the right. 

They circled around the beast as if they previously planned to do so. 

It was then that Enzo noticed the golden glow around the beast's tusks. 

He immediately knew what this glow indicated.

“Distract it!” He yelled to Pepper.

She lifted an eyebrow, but after a second decided to follow the order. 

Her class is supposed to be more of a scouting class that anything, so to tell her to engage directly in a fight with a monster could lead to both of them being killed.
Disregarding her thoughts, Pepper charged towards the beast. 

The boar previously was looking back and forth at Pepper and Enzo, because it didn’t know who to attack first, but seeing Pepper charging towards it, it quickly decided. 

The boar turned toward Pepper and matched her charge with one of his own. 

It quickly lowered its head in an attempt to impale Pepper on its tusks. 

She jumped to the side, successfully dodging the beast. 

Meanwhile, Enzo turned around and went back to the trees. 

Seeing this Pepper thought the worst, “That traitor!”, she screamed. 

The boar stopped after running a few more feet past where Pepper had been. 

The beast turned around and started swiping one of its hooves on the ground. 

It was a menacing sight to see. 

“Grrrr.” Letting out a huff of air and another growl, the beast charged towards Pepper once again.

She started running away, but it quickly caught up to her. 

Pepper was fast, but the boar had the level advantage on her, so it was much faster. 

“Fuck!” She exclaimed before jumping to the side.

The boar missed her once again, and continued to run for much longer than after the last miss. 

It had a harder time stopping its large body this time because it gained much more speed this time.

This was a mistake on the beast's part. 

Not only was it not able to adequately stop itself, but it also forgot about the other Fae that was originally attacking it. 

Shing!

Enzo jumped out from behind the tree and sliced his sword at the tusks of the boar. 

They were easily sliced off like a knife cutting through butter. 

[Critical Hit!]

Enzo felt it was way too easy to cut through the tusks for how thick they were and the fact that they were made of bone. 

The tusks fell to the ground, and so did the previous owner of them. 

The boar squealed in pain and started rubbing its mouth area on the ground violently. 

“Atlas!” Pepper screamed in surprise. 

She assumed he abandoned her, but it turned out he was just waiting to kill the boar. 

She ran towards the boar and stabbed her daggers into the beast's back.

That was the final blow to the beast as it lost health after that.

“Sorry, I thought you left me.” Pepper said.

Her face was red and she was looking at the ground in shame.

“It’s okay. I would have thought the same. We barely know each other and I left without explaining anything, so it’s my fault not yours.” Enzo reassured her.

“Okay.” 

Pepper still sounded a tad bit upset, but Enzo decided to leave it be for now.
