Chapter 31: 31 The Berserk Chef

“Hey guys, some of the cities are named now.”

They all opened their maps and noticed the same.

‘So it only appears when we know the name and where they are.’

The group left after getting directions.

“Thank you.” Enzo said one last time before handing another 10 bronze coins to the bartender for the information. 

Enzo then led the group southward, in the direction of Stonewall city, the capital of the Kular Kingdom. 

Without realizing it, Enzo became the leader of the group. It’s not that everyone else in the group was passive, it’s just that Enzo automatically started giving orders and taking the lead, so they let him. None of them had a problem with his leadership so far, so no one said anything in protest. 

“Do you guys think we will see any monsters on the way?” Vincent asked with a weird smile.

“Not sure, it’s a 20 mile trip so maybe.” Juliet answered. 

Ivan was giving Vincent a side eye and had fear visible on his face, “Vincent, stop smiling like that. I know what that means.”

Enzo sent a questioning gaze to the two.

“He’s a berserker for a reason.” Ivan said. 

“Hehehe.” Vincent chuckled evilly. 

“Ah, so we have the cliche battle maniac in our team.” Enzo grumbled. 

Vincent stopped laughing, “Huh?”, he asked in confusion. 

“Don’t worry about it.”
Juliet then switched the subject, “So, in what order should we get the ingredients for the ritual?”
“I think we should get the potion first.” Ivan answered. 

“Not a bad idea, but I think it would be better to get the hearts first.” Enzo responded. 

“Why?” Vincent asked. 

“Because, I think the hearts may only be collected once. So, only one person can have the heart of their bloodline ancestor. That means the heart is the most important and we should get it before anyone else can.”
“Yeah you’re right.” Ivan said. 

Enzo then continued, “After we complete the dungeons, I think we should get the potions. They have a few rare materials in them. Third we should get the vampire bat blood and lastly the iron wood.”
“That sounds good to me.” Juliet said. 

“Same here.” Vincent agreed.

Ivan nodded his head in agreement as well. 

“Good. We also need to find someone to build the iron wood coffins, unless one of you is an artificer or blacksmith?” Enzo asked. 

“My subclass is Chef.” Vincent answered. 

Enzo, Juliet, and Ivan suddenly stopped walking.

“...”

It took Vincent a few seconds to realize this as he was walking alongside them.

“What?” He asked once he finally noticed. 

“Well… Isn’t that kind of useless? We don’t even get hungry in the game…” Ivan asked. 

“Eh? Are you guys dumb? Why would they add a chef class if they don’t plan on making hunger a thing in the game or at least letting chefs add buffs to their food.” Vincent explained as if they were all stupid. 

‘Hmm. I didn’t think about that…’

“You’re right, I think. What skills did the subclass come with?” Enzo asked. 

“A skill called ‘Enhance’ that allows me to increase the taste of any ingredient in food I cook and a skill called ‘Diminish’ that allows me to lower the taste of any ingredient.” He answered.

“That’s actually pretty cool.” Juliet said. 

“Yeah, it could be used to poison people.” Ivan thought out loud. 

Enzo’s eyes went wide as he was the only one who understood what Ivan was implicating. 

“You’re a genius Ivan!”
He then explained it to Juliet and Vincent as they seemed to be confused, “If Vincent were to diminish the taste of poison or poisonous ingredients, it would be much easier to poison someone without them ever knowing.”
Now it was Juliet and Vincent’s turn for their eyes to widen. 

Most players wouldn’t even be thinking about things like this yet. Most would assume they would only have to fight monsters in the game, but not this group. They already had their share of hostile encounters with other players, so it was easy to figure out they may one day have to fight other players on a large scale or even on a small scale. War isn’t just fought on the battlefield, it is fought off it as well. Poisoning the food of the soldiers or your enemies at a dinner would be very effective in quickly ending a war. 

“That would go perfectly with my Alchemist skill!” Enzo realized. 

“It seems our subclasses have good affinity with each other.” Vincent pointed out.

Enzo nodded. 

Enzo could potentially produce good poison with his subclass, and Vincent would be able to put it in food or drink effectively. 

Juliet then shared her subclass with the group as Vincent and Ivan didn’t know about it yet. 

“Oh, to answer your question from earlier Enzo, I have the artificer subclass.” Ivan said.

“That’s great!”
That means they didn’t have to outsource the work of building the coffins for their group. 

“My skills allow me to invent things, and I can build something that I have invented before very fast as long as I have the materials. For example, if I invented a wheel I could build it in less than five minutes with wood. But, the good part is that I don’t have to actively build it. The item builds itself in a queue while I can do anything else during that time.”
“That’s awesome. I can’t wait to see the full potential of these subclasses.” Enzo said excitedly. 

The group then resumed their journey to the capital city of their kingdom.

After 6 hours the group finally began to see the capital city, Stonewall, and the city definitely lived up to its name…

The stone walls were at least 300 feet tall, but Enzo believed they might be much higher. 

The 6 hour journey went very smoothly, and to Vincent’s disappointment, there were no bandits or monsters along the way.

The journey didn’t feel like a long time because the group was getting to know each other better along the way, and another system announcement caused a lot of excitement and discussion.
