Letter of The Law

Five years ago, Jonathan was just a naive teenager - the youngest son of a rural lord. His whole world was the small village of Dalmarin, out on the shield lands at the edge of the empire when everything good in his life was ripped away from him. Suddenly he was taken away from everything he loved and dragged into the depths for the crime of doing the right thing. He was never supposed to return to the world above. Eventually, enduring the unendurable became his mission, more out of spite than anything else. After more suffering and pain than he should have been able to survive he’s back to where it all started. Jon isn’t the same person he once was though. He’s utterly changed by the path his life has taken, and he won’t rest until everything he’s lost has been returned and everyone who’s wronged him has been made to pay.

Letter of The Law is, at its heart, a coming of age tale intertwined with a revenge story told in two intertwining parts. It’s set in a fantasy world with steampunk elements. The focus will be on realism especially where it concerns the most fantastical elements like dwarves and magic. This realism often leads to dark themes, and the world can be violent, but not graphically so. It’s told in two narrative tracks that are flagged ‘Now’ and ‘Then’, both of which are from our protagonist’s point of view. They explore not only who Jon is, but the long chain of events that lead him there, relieving what could cause the immature boy of a lesser house to become a revolutionary firebrand and modern prometheus and what he hopes to accomplish with that power.

Release schedule: Monday-Friday

The initial release schedule will be a chapter every weekday for the first month or two. The initial arc is outlined through almost 100 chapters. The story's pacing is focused on creating a realistic, fleshed out world rather than rushing from one climactic moment or epic fight sequence to the next. This is my first effort at writing a story like this in the public eye, so feedback and constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.
