Chapter 32 - There? Taking a look at the great sword?
Since I tore down the original venue, the afternoon’s competition changed location, and a maidservant came to pick us up early. This was the first time I had caused such disaster, and I was quite worried, so I secretly asked Ye Tan how much money it would take to compensate the host and ask for forgiveness. Ye Tan’s didn’t look too relaxed, so I felt like this matter was going to get messy.
Yang Qingzhou quickly greeted us, his face did not have a trace of indignation, instead he repeatedly blamed himself for failing in his duties as host and causing the guests to argue, and asked for my forgiveness.
When I tried everything to follow the rules, other people came to pick on me, looking to cause trouble; When I destroyed someone else’s house, other people offered apologies to me instead. I simply don’t understand these people.
I whispered these matters to Ye Tan, and he simply nodded.
“Are you angry?” I carefully observed him.
“Where is this coming from?” Ye Tan asked.
“Since I caused an accident first.” I drooped my head down and stared at my hands, reflecting on my actions, “I am unable to control my power, should I cripple my inner strength a bit again.....”
Ye Tan abruptly cut me off: “Don’t say nonsense.”
I obediently closed my mouth.
When I didn’t speak, Ye Tan’s expression suddenly eased considerably, and he said again: “Hasn’t Master ever learnt how to use qi?”
I nodded: “Are you willing to teach me?”
“As long as Master commands it, how could I be unwilling.” Ye Tan stated as he looked at my face.
This person really is angry. But his anger is so half-hearted, he might not even have noticed it himself.
Ai, it’s really cute.
I thought this as I rubbed his head. Ye Tan looked baffled.
The people from that morning had once again changed clothes and taken their seats one by one. Everyone sized me up, half in awe and half with animosity, but nobody came looking for trouble.
That’s probably also not a bad thing.
Most of the competitions were more of a performance where it didn’t matter who won or lost, and they were all performed extremely well, but for some reason everyone was a little absent-minded.
Until a new person jumped on stage, he cupped his hands and in a clear voice said: “Wuyi Hill’s Yi Qiao, can I be so bold as to ask for Moling Sword Pavilion’s Young Master Jun for advice.”
Isn’t this person that guy with the bowl of hibiscus soup from midday?
Just then, the still drowsy people attending roused themselves in a split second, and their eyes all turned on me like torches.
.....What great expectations does everyone have from me?
Yang Qingzhou knew there was a rift between me and him, and it seemed it also gave him a headache. He hurriedly tried to smooth things over: “Yi Shaoxia1 , the competition of this Swords Convention is for admiring the graceful bearing of all kinds of weapons, Young Master Jun hasn’t brought any weapons, so it would be better to switch to another person to compete with.”
“Admiring swords? Hahahaha,” Seeing him mention this, Yi Qiao was unable to control his laughter, “You don’t have a sword? Why don’t you bring it up here and let everyone take a long look.”
As he said this, the whole room roared with laughter. The people sitting close to both our table stuck their heads out to get a clear look at the small dull sword on Ye Tan’s waist, and they whispered and laughed to each other.
Alas, a group of mortals, ridiculing this Creator God’s own invention.
“A-Tan.” I said, “You go up and play with him for a bit.”
Ye Tan would naturally be unable to beat him, I’m afraid his current cultivation put him at the bottom among the people gathered, and his sword drew ridicule from everyone present. If he went up he would only end up leaving seriously hurt, and would be entirely disgraced, ending up as a clown to be ridiculed in vain. I was thinking of what to say to persuade him, but Ye Tan had already silently accepted my order and stood up.
I tugged at his sleeve, whispering: “Just be careful to avoid breaking the sword.”
Ye Tan agreed, but still didn’t turn his head back.
Seeing him so directly and generously sacrificing himself inevitably made me a little distressed.
The elevated stage was half the height of a person. All the participants leapt up on it in order to show off their qinggong, only Ye Tan honestly made his way around half of the stage, and became the first person to walk up the steps to get on. He went around the entire half-stage, and everyone could see that his footwork was weak, his cultivation was shallow, and his sword became even more of a laughingstock.
Yi Qiao was on the stage, half indignant and half mocking, and I wished I could have stepped on his foot during breakfast. Yang Qingzhou hurriedly advised nearby: “Ladies and gentlemen, you are all very chivalrous, I hope we can take care and not overdo it, we don’t want to injure our friends.”
Ye Tan stood still and saluted, steadily drawing out his sword and holding it across his chest: “Sword Pavilion’s Ye Tan, please advise me.”
The small dull sword was still a small dull sword, it’s an impure mix of inferior copper and iron, already filled with rust stains after two days of disuse, with a filthy wooden hilt, not even able to afford a coat of paint, and using a woollen rag to crookedly wrap around it. The blade was also abruptly broken once, and it was arbitrarily fused back together with a forging technique so ugly it is unbearable to look straight at.
Being used to the sight of outstanding and sharp weapons, the distinguished guests present had never thought there could be such a failure of a sword under the heavens, and their expressions were all varying shades of confusion.
“You claim to be from the Sword Pavilion, just how come you have such a rubbish thing? Does you distinguished house only have this sword, can you explain to me how it was broken?” Yi Qiao mocked.
“It was broken, then repaired.” Ye Tan flatly said.
“.....Hahaha, alright.” Yi Qiao laughed in anger, “It’s good to repair broken things, I want to see who will help repair you when you are the one that breaks.”
Yi Qiao didn’t feel like speaking nonsense with a total noob, and he wanted to end this with one move, so he took the advantage and slashed down. Ye Tan understood the large disparity in their strength, and knew he could not move as fast as him and wouldn’t be able to avoid it, so he could only use a very basic defensive posture, holding the sword across his chest, preparing to block and then retreat after dispersing the force.
But when Yi Qiao’s sturdy blow landed, he felt a light sensation on his hand. Ye Tan’s expression changed as he guessed he was unable to block it, only to see Yi Qiao’s movement still continued downward, fortunately his intuition was astonishing, and he moved his head to the side as he felt the wind of a sharp blade next to his cheek—shockingly, it was Yi Qiao’s blade that had been cut in half.
Yi Qiao maintained his position as he landed, staring blankly for a long time.
Everyone present was also stunned.
“A-Tan, you can come back.” My voice was somewhat abrupt in the middle of that deathly silence, and I waved at Ye Tan.
Ye Tan’s astonishment was not any less than that of the others as he blankly returned the sword to it’s sheath and turned around.
“Impossible!! You cheated!!” Yi Qiao exploded in a shout, flying down and pulling out an attendant’s short sword, then climbing back onto the stage and striking down, Ye Tan instinctually pulled out the sword to block, still feeling that light sensation as if there was nothing there as that sword also broke when it met his blade.
Yi Qiao was furious, and he moved his hands to strike, but his figure was cut off by Yang Qingzhou. Yi Qiao was still cursing in a loud voice as Yang Qingzhou blocked and tried to persuade him for a long time, until he angrily kicked a table and left.
Ye Tan was not in a hurry as he looked for the stairs, getting ready to come down, but he hadn’t even gone a few steps when someone again called out in a clear voice: “Helan Terrace’s He Mou requests a fight against Sword Pavilion’s Ye Tan, Ye Daxia2 .” And he leapt up.
Ye Tan didn’t agree, but he also didn’t refuse. He looked up at me from the distance as if waiting for my instructions.
I felt like he wouldn’t be able to leave for a while, so I waved my hand and said: “You can play with them if you want, if you’re not happy just come back.”
Ye Tan nodded, then turned around and took up the challenge.
Saying it was a challenge, it was actually no such thing. Every blade broke with a single stroke, and it hardly took him any effort to hold his own.
The surrounding people didn’t believe this abnormality, and each and every one of them went up to try, the pitter-patter of their feet piling up in a large area.
Seeing this made me extremely happy.
The proper competition became more and more chaotic. Yang Qingzhou looked miserable as he crouched off-stage, observing. Seeing him, I felt he was really pitiful hahahaha.
“One hundred.” Someone suddenly counted.
Those people that didn’t believe all gave up at this moment, staring at Ye Tan in shock. Thinking they might have finally had enough, he saluted and prepared to step off.
“Daxia please remain.” Yang Qingzhou suddenly called out to him, respectfully cupping his hands and asking, “Can this one be so bold as to consult with the Sword Pavilion, may I ask, what is the name of this sword?”
The surrounding people suddenly went into an uproar, talking one after another: the host has asked for the sword’s name, could this mean that he intends to record it in the Swords Convention’s directory to pass down it’s reputation from now on?
Ye Tan didn’t answer him, looking at me form the distance.
He might be waiting for me to name it.
This sword certainly has a name.
This sword is called the Small Dull Sword.
Fuck me, how am I supposed to say that?
I stood up resolutely in front of the thousands of expectant eyes.
And without blushing or skipping a beat I said:
“This sword is called The Great Sword of the Divine Physics Oath of Victory.”
Yang Qingzhou: “......”
I gave a long sigh, and said: “This sword bears the longing for victory of all the departed spirits around the world throughout the ages, therefore it is invincible, and only people who have touched King Arthur’s ahoge3 are qualified to pull it out.”
Everyone present was in awe.
Yang Qingzhou took a deep breath, and said: “Can, can you repeat it one more time?..... It’s too long to remember.”
I: “The Great Sword of the Divine Physics Oath of Victory.”
Yang Qingzhou: “Divine.... Phy-what? Something something Victory.....”
I: “The Great Sword of the Divine Physics Oath of Victory.”
Yang Qingzhou: “The Great Sword of the Divine Physics Constraint of Victory.”
I: “It’s Oath of Victory, not Constraint4 of Victory.”
Yang Qingzhou: “Oath of Victory of Physics.... Divine.... Sword.”
I: “Fucking enough.”
