Chapter 18: Chapter 17 – Dead of Night

William was still in the hospital, Michigan had already left, leaving just him and the two unconscious heroes inside the busy hospital. William said

 

“I would love to stay but I have a job to do kiddies so I have to go”

 

Suddenly William opened the window and climbed out, using his white left hand he made it intangible and stuck it in the wall before making it tangible again but stuck in the wall, William then did the same process till he reached the bottom. William did this to avoid security as he walked to his house again only to arrive to see another debtor sitting down smoking a cigarette, behind him was a bodyguard. The debtor said

 

“Hey big ol Will come sit down. We have a lot to talk about”

 

William moved and sat down directly in front of the debtor on the steps. William sadly was now sitting on dirt but it wasn’t too much different from how he usually lives. The debtor looked down on William and said

 

“I have two pieces of news, an interesting one and a terrible one. Which one do you want to hear first?”

 

William hesitantly said

 

“The interesting news.”

 

The debtor smiled and said

 

“Do you know that people have a chance to be born with powers that defy the laws of the universe itself? Secondly, do you know that there is an even smaller chance in those few born with powers for one to be born as a UNIQUE super. Do you know what that means?”

 

William knew the question was rhetorical and stayed quiet. The debtor continued

 

“Approximately one percent of the entire world are unique. And instead of gaining a power over a simple phrase when they are ten they are instead born with a power and that power isn’t a normal phrase that me and you have but instead an idiom, saying or even joke that is used by humans an example would be called something like (making it rain) which would let you make anything you want rain from the sky, it’s truly an amazing phenomenon.”

 

William shook his head as the debtor continued

 

“These idioms can have powerful meaning depending on how the user interprets them and can even provide multiple powerful abilities no matter how ridiculous they sound. It’s truly a wonder of our world. Now William, why do you think I told you all of this?”

 

William shrugged before the debtor learned in looking William in the eyes and said

 

“Here is the terrible news, my bodyguard is one of those few. His name is Frank Herbert and his power is–”

 

The bodyguard suddenly made a large sci-fi pistol appear in his hand. The debtor continued

 

“If I had some extra budget”

 

Suddenly the bodyguard fired at William, William responded by blocking with his white arm only for him to be blown back. William, seen as the pistol seemingly fired a blue ball of energy. The debtor said

 

“We know that you have been doing something to our debtors to avoid paying our debt and we can’t legally give the debt to your family without a contract or prove of death so we had to make one of those true and we immediately knew which one”

 

The bodyguard dashed at William only to summon a seemingly giant sci-fi hammer, the bodyguard swung at William but William became intangible and passed through the hammer only to see the hammer furiously strike the ground causing a loud shockwave as a small crater appeared under the hammer. William jumped back only for the bodyguard to take out his pistol and shoot at William's feet. The debtor then said

 

“We obviously couldn’t try attacking an A-rank hero without a plan so we looked through your history and powers and found your weakness. Among the fact that you exert a lot of effort to stay intangible you also are forced to keep a bit of your body tangible. This is because you aren’t strong enough to cover your entire body and that is why you are still only an A-rank. Now Frank kill him”

 

Frank took out his hammer and did a large downward strike to cover William’s entire body. William responded by expanding his white left arm to block the strike. Frank smashed his hammer down but William successfully blocked only for the sound of a crack to ring out. The debtor yelled

 

“GO FRANK GO, earn that paycheck of yours”

 

Frank took out his pistol and shot at William’s stomach but William made his stomach intangible as a compromise only for Frank to sneak his arm through William’s stomach and onto his chin, William recoil back only to see Frank suddenly stretch his arms out and him to summon an armor of pure white armor before Frank arch his arm back and shot a beam of plasma behind him to charge and try punching William, William responded by going fully intangible except for his feet before punching Frank back with his white left arm only for the armor to seemingly make William’s arm bounce of like a balloon. Frank then slammed into a wall only for large spider arms to pop out of Frank’s back with large holes at the end that suddenly shot balls of plasma at William. William used his white arm and enlarged it to make a shield but it was no use as ball upon ball of plasma battered his arm leaving burn marks on the white void. William looked around for a way to defeat Frank only to see the debtor on his steps waving at William. William then opened his finger to look at Frank who was now smashing William’s arm with his fist. William breathed in before going completely intangible. Instantly William felt his power faltering but he pushed through as William seemingly disappeared under the ground, both the debtor and Frank were baffled as they never heard of William doing this before, they looked at each other in a panic only for Frank to see a white arm grab the debtors leg. Frank tried screaming out only for his boss to be pulled under ground with William. Frank used his spider legs on his back to raise in the air as he pulled out his pistol breathing heavily only for Frank to hear.

 

“You have been using your power for a long while and at a powerful amount, I wonder if it’s almost out?”

 

Frank reactively shot behind him only to hit no target, suddenly Frank felt a weight on his armor back as William grabbed Frank in a choke hold. Frank released his head armor to breathe only for a chain reaction to occur, William asked.

 

“Have you ever ran a marathon but tried taking a small break? If you have then you should know that if you try taking a break your legs will stop entirely. Now Frank I have a question for you, you aren’t using your power for attack anymore , would you call that a break?”

 

Frank grabbed out his hammer and tried smashing William’s head only for the hammer to seemingly disappear into blue smoke before hitting William. Frank took out his gun but it disappeared before he even aimed. Frank then knew the inevitable as his armor gave up on him and his spider legs holding him up disappeared sending Frank to the ground, Frank coughed up blood due to the immense weight of his armor and William. Instantly Frank’s armor vanished as William said.

“Listen Frank this is the second time I met a unique so I will give you a choice, if you work for me for free I will spare your life”

 

Frank who was still desperately smashing his arms against William to try breathing. Frank gave up and pointed his finger to the air, suddenly a sign appeared saying 

 

“OK mini”

 

William smiled before releasing Frank. Frank coughed as he tried getting air. William asked

 

“What rank are you?”

 

Frank responded with

 

“I’m freelance, I’m not a super or villain I just work on who can pay me the best but well.”

 

Frank thought for a moment before saying

 

“If I had to guess I would probably be around a S-rank but because my power is unique I have an imaginary budget I spend on weapons, when I’m out I have to wait till the next day so I am basically limited to a few fights a day with specific weapons.”

 

William rubbed Frank’s head and said

 

“I just want to get out of debt so you don’t have to worry about that.”

 

Frank smiled as he said

 

“Thank you”

During this time Thomas was sighing as he looked at his Law Firm. It was the dead of night and no one would be in but it was nice to reminisce, or at least that's what Thomas thought before hearing someone say

 

“Hey Thomas long time no see”

 

Thomas looked behind him only to see his brother carrying a small bag glowing purple. Thomas said

 

“It’s only been a few days, Jackov. Now what do you want?”

 

Jackov shook the shining purple bag as he said

 

“I think I found everything you need.”

 

Jackov then flipped over a backpack that Thomas couldn’t see before taking out a map of the city that had red X’s and O’s all over. Jackov said

 

“First I looked around the city to find if anyone had the drug to interrogate them but I found none, if I had to guess they either pulled it off the market or are selling to a select few. After that I decided to break apart the drug to find its ingredients and side effects. After that I found it had not only excessive cocaine to kill a normal man but also an unknown substance that gave the drug its purple glow. It was then I looked into it to notice that people who had the drug fed to them would desperately want more and lose their reasoning. Next with this info I started testing them on other people and leant-”

 

Thomas said

 

“Let me guess you found out that supers were using the drug.”

 

Jackov smiled and said

 

“Exactly. They are only giving and selling the drug to heroes in at least B class making them even less and less stable minded when fighting.”

 

Thomas then said

“Did you track down the people making them or is this map just eye candy?”

 

Jackov then bent down and started pointing to separate circles on the map and said

 

“After interviewing some of the weaker drug addicts and asking them questions about where they bought the drug and all I found out that the drug is called Skotati and is was being sold in twenty separate buildings across the city and that doesn’t include the large market of individuals who may be higher ranked and buying products from different producers. So I decided to go to one of these buildings and try infiltrating only to see that nearly every bodyguard was a high B rank or low to middle A rank just like you and me.”

 

Thomas sighed as he said

 

“My gut is that you want me to go invisible and infiltrate.”

 

Jackov then said

 

“Either that or both of us trying to fight nearly thirty or so B-rank heroes inside of an enclosed space.”

 

Thomas sighed and said

 

“Where is the closest one?”

 

Jackov then stood and said 

 

“I bring you there just follow me”

 

Jackov and Thomas walked through the city passing murders and fights that they didn’t feel like stealing the credit in. Finally the two were in front of a large abandoned factory that was making a small amount of noise. Jackov then tapped Thomas on the shoulder before walking behind a building to hide. Thomas looked up at the building before going invisible and knocking on the door. Instantly the door creaked open and a normal looking man peeked through only for a quick wave of sand to hit his exposed eyes. The man said

 

“I should wear those overused sunglasses next time.”

 

Thomas was now inside after blinding the man, next he tiptoed through the warehouse to see it booming with people all entering protected rooms before leaving just as quickly. It was a large drug chain. Thomas walked towards one of the rooms before following a customer inside, the customer was a famous C-rank hero called Joyride who used a jetpack and was considered extremely rich as he used a protective high money armor. Joyride said

 

“I want two bags of skotati and a large bag of kolasi.”

 

Joyride then looked at his seller, a large built man with another set of arms on his body. The four armed man quickly grabbed behind him two suitcases and unlocked them before taking out a glove for one of his hands, he then used his gloved hand to take out just two fingerfulls of a black powder which he put in a black bag with a red L. The four armed man then took out two handfuls of the purple crystal skotati before shoving them into two separate bags labeled with a M. Joyride happily grabbed the bag and tried walking away only to hear.

 

“That will be 20,000 dollars of goods with the premium kolasi.”

 

Joyride shuddered before taking out a debit card and swiping it on a small machine to the right of the man. The machine then shined a large

 

“20,000 deposited”

 

The man then looked back and said

 

“Do you solemnly swear on your power to not reveal the location of the chain.”

 

Joyride then nodded his head before the man said

 

“Leave”

 

Joyride left only for the man to get up and stretch before locking the door and saying. 

 

“Now who is hiding here.”

 

Thomas who sat quiet this entire time was shocked before hearing

 

“What power do you have? Hmm , is it the ability to shrink into a miniscule size”

 

The man then quickly started sliding his hand on the ground before saying

The man then swiped the air before saying one more time

 

“Or are you camouflaged on the walls?”

 

The man the smashed his fist against a wall opposite of Thomas before saying

 

“I got it, you are invisible ain’t ya”

 

The man then took out a bag of powder and ripped it open before throwing it on the ground. The entire room filled with a white substance, The man said

 

“This is called explosive baking powder, it is for those people who try ratting us out and try buying cheap goods.”

 

The man then looked Thomas who now covered in powder in the eyes before saying

 

“Peek-a-boo”

 

The man then slammed his fist on the wall causing a large hole, Thomas barely dodged before relearning his invisibility so he can at least fight. The man then grabbed a piece of wall that fell off and threw it directly at Thomas’ head , Thomas quickly used his power to make a tile in the ground a small floating shield to stop the chunk. Both pieces broke on impact. The man said

 

“Oh you must be a rare one with a line as your power.”

 

Thomas shuddered before the man said

 

“It’s very uncommon but if someone is born with a power that is an idiom or famous catchphrase or even just riddles then they can use any power that they can imagine their power being. Here is an example, four eyes could mean you have four eyes or it can mean you can become extremely smart or even able to control glasses. It’s a rare phenomenon so I am happy I get to kill one”

 

The man then quickly sprouted two more arms leading to six total before he charged and used his arms to try grabbing Thomas. Thomas, using his power, grabbed item after item to defend before he finally grabbed a suitcase defended with it only to see the man gently grab the case and place it down. Thomas smiled before using his power to make a wall of suitcases floating in the air before he popped the suit cases open and shot a beam of drugs out of one. Thomas would have shot all at once and even controlled them but he was still barely mid A-rank and he was fighting someone who obviously had been around the block in the drug business. Thomas sighed as he continued shooting the drug at the man only to see the man fall on his knees and say

 

“It’s all over, I am so dead.”

 

Thomas stopped firing to see the man suddenly start crying as he looked at the drug on the floor yelling

“GOD WHY ME, god why”

 

Thomas knew why he was crying. The man's boss must either be a high S-rank villain or even a global villain, it was certain that the man would die even if he won the fight. The man said

 

“You fool now Muscle will be after us all”

 

Thomas knew that this was his chance and grabbed a skotati crystal and waved it in front on the man’s face before saying

 

“If you answer all my questions I’ll give you this drug for free.”

 

The man didn’t look up as he said

 

“It doesn’t matter I killed this entire factory, I should have just killed you instead of messing around.”

 

Thomas sighed before saying

 

“Who is this Muscle person, I mean what can you lose other than your life.”

 

The man said

“My family”

 

Thomas didn’t know quite what to say so he tried intimidation by saying

 

“He probably already killed them”

 

The man gave a quizzical look before saying

 

“Muscle Mass is a she”

 

This was great information, Thomas had the boss’ full villain name and gender. Thomas then said

 

“What would happen if you just cleaned it up and payed her out of pocket”

 

The man said

 

“You wouldn’t understand, some of those drugs are worth thousands a gram and even more of them have to be in certain conditions to work , either being burnt or not exposed to air.”

 

Thomas sighed as he got up and said

 

“What is your name”

 

The man tried making a sad joke before his death saying

 

“My name is Ihm dhed”

 

Thomas sighed at the man who gave him a fake name before tapping the man on the shoulder before saying 

 

“Sorry”

 

Thomas then got a tile and killed the man as fast as he could, Thomas knew that the death Muscle Mass would give would be much more painful. Thomas then went invisible again before using his power to slowly make a large hole in the wall by making the wall his armor before removing it again. Thomas then slid out before taking out his phone and saying

 

“Jackov the name of the big boss is probably Muscle Mass and they are female. Find out their names as fast as you can because I have a feeling that this drug chain has a much bigger purpose than profit.”

Far away Glee was in what could be vaguely called a costume by him wearing a large jacket and blue jeans. He was walking towards a large orphanage near the center of town that is run by low class heroes who want nothing but to help children in need. Glee looked at the orphanage with hand on it and said

 

“I wonder if there are any good candidates this time”

 

Glee laid his hand on the building only for the building to suddenly become shiny before suddenly hundreds of thin cracks covered the building before a loud sound of glass shattering occurred before the entire building cracked and fell to the ground as if it shattered. Thousands of screams were heard, Glee looked around the rubble of shard glass like stone before seeing a single child barely living by seemingly summoning a large tree to protect him. Glee smiled before touching the tree, shattering it as well. The child tried running in fear only for the barely twelve year old kid became trapped inside of a clear glass box. Glee then lifted his finger causing the box trapping the kid to float and follow Glee, the child tried to break out of the box only to realize that the glass was reinforced. The child used his power to summon a large tree to try smashing the box but to no avail. Glee then took out his phone and called a name saying

 

“Small Ben”

 

Glee then called small Ben and saying 

 

“Hey Ben I got a twelve year old for you, his power seems to be the control of trees so I would say most likely a high B-rank or at his peak an A-rank”

 

The voice on the other side said

 

“Okay I’ll take him , what do you want in return”

 

Glee then responded with

 

“I don’t want to do Muscle’s plan, it’s okay sounding but right now I’m in a comfortable position and so are all of you.”

 

Ben on the other side said

 

“You don’t have to follow but don’t be sour if you don’t get the reward of the aftermath”

 

Glee sighed before begrudgingly saying

 

“Give me a sparring partner around the age of twenty and give him super speed preferably in the A-rank”

 

Ben on the phone said

 

“Happy to oblige”

 

Ben Reloj closed his phone and smiled, Glee was his biggest supplier of goods. Ben then looked to the right to see a system of jail cells each holding children the age of ten. Ben looked at the cells and found the word 

 

“Physical Attributes”

 

Ben then knocked on the cage and said

 

“Who here has super speed”

 

Three kids out of what seems like hundreds raised their hands. Ben opened the gate and said

 

“First one out gets a snack”

 

Immediately three super speed kids tried running out only for Ben to snap his finger, time slowed to a crawl as Ben watched as a small kid with yellow hair dived through the door. Instantly Ben closed the gate right in front of the two other children. Ben then said

 

“Good job kiddie. Here is a cookie”

 

Ben gave the kid a small cookie before leading him away from the cells and towards a door. Ben said

 

“Good news kid you won’t be ten anymore”

 

Ben then tapped the kid's shoulder only for the kid to age quickly before seemingly becoming eighteen in a blink of an eye. Instantly the kid tried his luck and did an extremely quick kick trying to hit Ben’s head only for Ben to snap his finger and casually duck under a now barely moving kick. Ben then punched the child in the stomach, it wasn’t powerful or superpowered up but it should be enough to teach a lesson. Ben then snapped his finger again only for the kid to see the man he was about to kick almost instantly crouch and punch his stomach. The kid couldn’t react as the punch knocked him off his feet. Ben said

 

“The one buying you is a fellow global wanting a sparring partner. So you better do a good job”

 

The kid ignoring the words tried using his power to quickly punch Ben again only for the same situation to happen. Ben froze time and punched the kid in his armpit and stomach before resuming time. Ben said

 

“I’ll train you until he arrives but I would recommend saving your energy, the one buying you is so dangerous that I wouldn’t fight him. He is probably the second strongest global villain in Prodosia.”

 

The kid shuddered as Ben stood up and whipped off his large trench cloak. Ben then asked

 

“What is your name kiddie”

 

The kid responded with

 

“My name is Gait Brief”

 

Ben smiled and said

 

“Try your best to survive” 

Far away Adelfi was laying down at the foot of the tree. It was a tree she remembered fondly as she and her brother used to play beside it. Adelfi wiped a tear off her face as she remembered hearing her brother sneak out of the house one day and never come back. It was so long ago Adelfi barely even remembered how he looks or his name. All she remembered was his first initial, A. Adelfi then sighed as she got up, all the apples on the tree were gone and instead either eaten or littered on the ground by the hours of practice Adelfi had done. Adelfi breathed out as she went to walk home from her mountain only to see a large mass of people right in front of her home. Adelfi immediately knew why they were there but she couldn’t imagine her fate ahead if she stayed so she did the most reasonable thing she could as a frightened ten year old and ran, she didn’t use her power, all she did was run away from the small tiny city below her mountain and towards the middle of Prodosia. She ran and ran before her legs gave out barely even halfway to salvation. She breathed in before opening a portal in front of her with one hand and another one far away with her other. Both her hands shone baby blue. She learned while practicing she had three portal types.

(1 - Grab Portal - a portal that can expand and suck in anything above it.)
(2 - Spit Portal - a portal that shoots out anything the other portals take in.)

(3 - Normal Portal a portal that doesn’t change shape or size from when it is made but can only move things and not trap them like the Grab Portal.)

 

Adelfi then magically made another portal seemingly on top of a building before crawling towards the one in front of her and climbing through, on the other side was the top of the building. Adelfi pulled herself up and smiled before deciding that she had put in too much effort. It was midnight and no one was chasing her so she put a purple grab portal on the ground and rolled inside. She looked around at the seemingly endless void before hesitating and jumping out into the cold breezy night. Adelfi crossed her arms together against the freezing cold as she laid behind what seemed to be a large billboard, Adelfi could barely even use her power anymore due to the overuse of her powers.
