If she is telling the truth, she didn't even seek revenge on the pieces of human filth who took advantage of her mental weakness and physical dependencies to dehumanize and abuse her for their own profit and puerile pleasure. She knew that, with women changing as they were, they would, more likely sooner than later, seal their own fates with women who would no longer be their victims, and who had the personal resources to defend themselves and fight back.

You begin to see the vulnerable, human side of this woman, and see something worth caring for, and if necessary: serving. Although she is still technically "homeless", she lives that way by choice, and in style. She moves from 4-star hotel to 4-star hotel, often staying in luxury suites, never wanting for a roof over her head or money. You aren't insolent enough to ask her how she acquires money, but likely by hustling men using her looks, charm and high intelligence, as she basically did to you. You reason: if that's wrong, it's in no way as wrong as what was done to her for many years. This is downtown... the financial district. There are many men with high incomes around, should be like shooting fish in a barrel.

She finishes relating her story, then gets up and heads to the bathroom. She touches your shoulder warmly as she passes, then takes a quick shower and brushes her teeth. She comes back out beautifully naked and drying her hair with a towel.

You ask, "Mistress, is it okay if I... um..."

"Sure boy, go ahead. It is... your room, after all."

You take a shower, enjoying the hot water over your skin. You have to be careful to keep your bruise out of the path of the shower water, since the water stings it. But the scab is showing signs of healing. You shave with your electric razor, then exit the bathroom and head toward the sofa, but are stopped cold.

Kerren is sitting on the corner of the bed, still naked. She holds your revolver in a two handed grip, leveled at your chest. Your heart jumps, you stop, and then lose your balance backwards, falling awkwardly. Leaning with your back against the wall, you feel sweat break out on your face and upper body. Your heart beats rapidly and you think "So this is it."
