Chapter 879: His Majesty’s Research? Crazy Ideas
[T/L Note]:
Before we get into the real chapter, I would like to know, dear avid readers of LLS, is Hua Xu Ri— the Emperor of the Tian Luo Empire, a woman all this time??? Since I picked this up at chapter 817, I wasn’t aware of the genders but just assumed it was a guy all this time. Previous translations have labeled the Emperor as a ‘he’ and the ‘brother’ of the Eastern Sky King, but on the Wiki Fandom page, the alias was ‘Princess Night Dream’ and her gender stated was a female.
At any rate, I’ll address the Emperor as a man for now but will change it if said otherwise. Author didn’t use the gender prefixes so I can’t really make sense of it through this chapter alone, so I’d appreciate it if anyone can just let me know in the comments, thank you!!
Now, back to the story.
The Tian Luo Palace.
What surprised Yue Yang was the fact that His Majesty had abruptly summoned him today.
Usually he would refuse to see me under the pretext of being unwell even when I request an audience with him, so what’s going on today?
Yue Yang was confused, but he was also brimming with expectation— after all, His Majesty isn’t someone that you could see whenever you wanted to. The on-duty female officer led him to the steps of the inner hall before she quietly retreated, a door separating him from His Majesty just like the last time. If it was someone else who treated Yue Yang like this, it would be strange if he didn’t directly kick the hall door and rush in. However, the trick of playing the role of a rogue wouldn’t work in His Majesty’s palace. Here, he had to pretend to be a good boy.
So, he kept on smiling.
The transversing man wore a polite and serene expression.
“I heard that you, Jun Wu You and Shui Dong Liu have formed a Dragon Knights Legion Army which has led to the evoked martial spirit of the entire Soaring Dragon Continent?” His Majesty asked.
“I’m actually not that magnanimous…” Student Yue Yang was humble on the surface, but he was very proud in his heart. If the method that he had painstakingly thought about had no effect at all, it would be strange!
Yue Yang took out a plan script and walked up the steps, as if he wanted to open the door of the hall and enter, but in the end he didn’t.
Instead, he used a kind of ‘Telekinesis Transmission’ to pass the plan into the inner hall and said in a serious tone,” Several seniors, as well as Mr. Nan Gong, all believe that if the Soaring Dragon Continent wants to rise, it must remain competitive. Searching for elites to form the Dragon Knights Legion Army and using the honors and opportunities to inspire the nation’s martial arts spirit is just the first step.”
“The plan is pretty good, but I don’t know how effective it will be,” His Majesty pondered for a long time, seeming to read the plan thoroughly and carefully before he finally made a point, “I agree a bit more towards the latter idea of forming the Dragon Blood Guard Legion. It’s impossible for everyone to be an elite— some are talented people, some have strong willpower and most importantly, some of them are loyal. Indeed, it would be possible for them to develop some opportunities that differ with individuality so that they can excel in their respective fields. Many predecessors have thought about this matter, but in the end, no one did it well, including the Prison Emperor. If you have decided to do it, then I will still support it. I can only hope that you will do your best to the very end.”
“With Your Majesty’s order, this student will naturally go all out!” Student Yue Yang smiled and bowed.
“I won’t participate in the plan of the Dragon Knights Legion and the Dragon Blood Guard,” His Majesty paused before saying, “With your abilities and the cooperation of everyone, I believe it can be done even if it takes a longer period of time. After all, with your reputation, it would be a bit difficult to motivate the drive of the entire Tong Tian Tower, but it would not be a big problem against the Soaring Dragon Continent.”
“Don’t! Your Majesty, don’t let go of this matter!” Yue Yang was anxious as what he had hoped for was the full support of His Majesty.
“To have the Eastern Sky King and the Western Sky King cooperate with you is really impossible; I will send over a special envoy to take charge of this matter,” His Majesty seems to have decided long ago.
“Then what are you busy with all day? You stay so idly in the harem every day, after all— isn’t it boring not to do something?” Yue Yang sweated profusely.
“It’s none of your business!” His Majesty was angry.
“Just think of it as a small favor,” Yue Yang hurriedly expressed his sincere attitude.
“I have been very busy recently and I have no time at all!” His Majesty said so, although no one in the Soaring Dragon Continent would believe his words. Everyone knew that Tian Luo Emperor Hua Xu Ri was the most leisurely Emperor in the world. He stayed in the harem every day and rarely ever showed up to court meetings. He almost never asked about government affairs, leaving all domestic affairs up to the ministers’ judgements.
There was a joke in the Soaring Dragon Continent that there was once a major celebration held in Tian Luo Square. His Majesty Hua Xu Ri was slightly ill and it was too late for him to get dressed formally. Hence, the female officer took him out of the palace and prepared to go to the square to participate in the celebration. As a result, they were stopped by the official responsible for maintaining order as the official asked for the VIP invitation from His Majesty. When the female officer showed the Sunburst Jade Pendant that proved His Majesty’s identity, the official thought it was a bribe and strictly refused, “For His Majesty’s safety, this official absolutely can’t allow any unidentified people to enter the square, so please leave immediately. Otherwise, this official will call the palace guards to arrest you…” This joke might have been a bit exaggerated as it would be impossible for the official responsible for maintaining order to not recognise the Emperor’s ‘Sunburst Jade Pendant’.
It was even more improbable for the Tian Luo Empire to let a ‘blind’ official, who did not recognize His Majesty, take on the responsibility for maintaining order.
However, when it comes to reality.
The situation was pretty much like this.
In the Tian Luo Empire, at least one-fifth of the ministers and one-tenth of the City Lords have never seen the Emperor Hua Xu Ri. It was said that there were more than one hundred Tian Luo officials who often mistook the representative official, the Guardian War God, as the Emperor instead. This shows how much the country’s citizens weren’t exposed to Emperor Hua Xu Ri’s face as the king of the country.
Compared with the Da Xia Emperor Jun Wu You, the Tian Luo Emperor Hua Xu Ri was really low-key and outrageous.
Although Jun Wu You never printed his head on gold coins to make everyone recognise his face, at least 80% of the people, including civilians, were aware of what their Emperor looked like in Da Xia.
Especially with the rise of student Yue Yang, he had indirectly led Jun Wu You to become famous all over the world. Even some of the people in the Tong Tian Tower had heard of his glorious name.
When Yue Yang heard His Majesty say that she was busy, he couldn’t help but laugh in secret.
He thought, if you are very busy, then there would no longer be any idlers in the world.
His Majesty seemed to have seen Yue Yang’s heartfelt voice and he whispered, “I really am busy. If you don’t know, don’t try to guess!”
Yue Yang was surprised, “Then what is Your Majesty up to?”
His Majesty groaned for a long time before she let out a sigh, “I’m researching if there is a way to replace the Grimoire with something else!”
“Isn’t this rather whimsical?” Yue Yang was obviously not optimistic. If it were Jun Wu You or the old fox who said this, Yue Yang would treat them as insane; replacing the Grimoire is a really idiotic move after all. If there was anything that could replace the Grimoire, why should the martial artists of the Heaven Realm look at someone else’s Grimoire and drool? Yue Yang, with his current ability of the Heaven Eyes Transverse, was unable to see any traces of the creation nor the truth. He guessed that even the legendary Gods would not be able to create the Grimoires. Only the Divine Gods of the ancient times that were incomparably strong might be able to do something like that.
Now, His Majesty Hua Xu Ri, the Emperor of Tian Luo, said that he was studying something that may be capable of replacing the Grimoire.
Yue Yang thought that he had already been mindful of His Majesty’s reputation as he hadn’t laughed out loud till his death.
The two faced each other, both speechless for a while, not knowing how long it took before His Majesty suddenly sighed slightly, “The Grimoires were too mysterious. There have been people of the Heaven Stairway who have studied it in the past dynasties, but they have not made significant progress. Later, the people of the Heaven Stairway changed their minds and put forward a bold idea— even if they failed to accomplish a world without the presence of the Grimoires, would they be able to use something else that could essentially replace the Grimoire itself?”
Yue Yang was shocked, were these strong Heaven Stairway martial artists too leisured?

There really was such a crazy research idea going on? Listening to His Majesty’s tone, this kind of research has probably been going on for a long time. But even though they know that it was futile, why do they insist on continuing it?
With a little bit of temptation paired with the slightest form of curiosity, Yue Yang asked, “How long did this research last?”
His Majesty replied, “Eight thousand years.”
Yue Yang was speechless.
To spend eight thousand years studying a project that will never succeed— was this persistence or foolishness?
“Like I said, I don’t have time to take care of your business. In the past few months, I have been wanting to sleep. Go back. If necessary, you can find the Eastern Sky King,” His Majesty was going to send Yue Yang away.
“Wait, let me help you!” Yue Yang’s heart decided. If he could make a breakthrough in this aspect, then he believed that it would be of great help towards his comprehension of the realm.
“You don’t have such patience…” His Majesty refused.
“Let’s talk about your ideas and progress first,” Yue Yang insisted on listening, only giving up if it was truly impossible.
“Since eight thousand years ago, a fixed line of thought has gradually formed. We hope to connect and communicate souls through an item, and at the same time, this item will be the carrier of the contracted beast. You probably know as well that the contract beast’s carriers are very common in treasures, especially treasures that were above the Gold Level, such as Holy Rnaked and Divine Ranked treasures, which have instrument spirits. We were wondering if there was a way to meet the requirements of this carrier with the quality being lowered. It is impossible for ordinary warriors to use treasures above the Gold Level and some young children do not have enough spiritual control. If we can research and materialise a carrier of the Silver Level or the Bronze Level that can contract a beast above the Gold Level all the same, isn’t that…” His Majesty talked about this kind of research as his interest suddenly peaked, explaining to Yue Yang endlessly.
“That’s it!” Yue Yang felt that in the inheritance of knowledge, there was also a part of the sealed knowledge about this, but it was incomplete. He guessed that Si-nang had also studied the substitutions of the Grimoires before, but the limited time was not enough for her to study deeper into it.
“The carrier of the contract beast is the first problem. However, the most difficult thing is the communication of the soul,” His Majesty emanated a long sigh, “This is too difficult.”
“Soul communication…” Yue Yang also frowned.
For those who are stronger than the Innate Realm, this poses a problem.
However, for an ordinary person, communicating with the soul could only be an extravagant hope.
Perhaps in a deep dream, there were very few people with pure hearts that would smoothly communicate through the soul under the influence of certain talents or abilities.
Even if ordinary people allowed others to forcibly guide and communicate with their souls, it would also cause damage to their souls. If a carrier with a beast of Gold Rank or higher was allowed to communicate with the soul, it is estimated that the will of that beast will directly destroy the fragile soul of ordinary people.
There was no other way but to summon the incomparable treasure of the Grimoire to bear the burden.
If one really wanted to contract a Battle-type Beast on their souls, they must fully integrate the soul and the body so that the beast and the master are ‘completely one’.
In other words, if one could achieve this, then this beast will be one that guards their lives, with them dying if their owner dies. An ordinary contract with the body would result in the betrayal of the beast should it not be satisfied. Or, if there was no communication of will, the beast will never learn to progress without wisdom.
“Just mind your own business. Just maybe, this path might have been wrong,” His Majesty advised Yue Yang not to put his energy on this.
“What if we make another Grimoire?” Yue Yang fell into deep thought.
There was a kind of aura in his mind now.
Although he didn’t know what it was, he had a strange feeling that if he grasped this, he might have a better understanding of soul communication.
His Majesty felt a little strange, what does this kid want to do?
Does he really want to help her find a substitute for the Grimoire? Has he gone bonkers?
Yue Yang sat on the steps without an image as he was deep in his thoughts, intending to seize the floating inspiration.
Finally, lying on the steps with both hands as a pillow, casually crossing his legs, he stared at the sky with mindless eyes. His mind was focused on plunging into the sea of thoughts— whether it was the inheritance of Si-niang’s knowledge, Empress Fei Wen Li’s Complete Comprehension of the Realms, the wisdom and enlightenment brought to him by all the martial artists of the World Tree and finally the various and diverse knowledge that he had learned of before crossing worlds.
What could be used as a substitute for the Grimoire?
What kind of existence was necessary to achieve this?
His Majesty was afraid that he would interrupt his thoughts, hence he had not spoken and waited quietly with a glimmer of expectation in his heart.
Can this kid really solve this problem that has been unsolved for eight thousand years? Can a substitute for the Grimoire really appear? If he really solves this problem, how can I praise him? The most important thing was that if this task was completed by him, according to the ancestral motto, I have to take him there?
Forget it, I’ll just let him go back quickly. It would be really bad should this kid manage to figure it out.
His Majesty coughed slightly, “It’s not early, so just go back first. You are mainly busy with the Dragon Knights Legion Army, so let this go for now!”
“Wait!” Yue Yang jumped up suddenly excitedly, “I have an idea, but I don’t know if it can be done!”
“Seriously? That fast?” His Majesty exclaimed. He immediately suppressed his emotions and returned to normal as he asked, “You thought of a way so quickly? What kind of idea is it?”
“I won’t tell you yet. Just wait until I make a sample, I hope it works! God, if this works…” Yue Yang ran out like a lunatic.
“This kid is a bit unbelievable,” His Majesty said so, but there was an inexplicable confidence for Yue Yang in his heart.
[TL note]:
At this point there’s more new characters that are emerging so I’m kind of making the glossary instead of referring to it. I’ll try my best to provide them as accurately as I can, so let me know if any of the names seem awkward or don’t flow all that well!
At any rate, enjoy the chapter! Hope you guys have a great day/night ahead of you!
P:S Really need help with the Hua Xu Ri guy, even Wikifandom is contradicting so, yea. Thanks!
