Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Making Amends

Hearing voices around me I moved to open my eyes as well as listen to what was going on.

"Do we need to take him to the hospital?"

"No, I don't think so."

"Look, the young master is awake." A maid said.

As soon as she did so all eyes in the room focused on me.

The moment after they did so I smiled and waved.

"Young master Leon, I'm so glad you're awake." A man said.

Looking at him I saw he has salt and pepper colored hair with a full beard. He stands at 170 centimeters tall and has blue eyes hidden behind square-shaped glasses.

His name is Alfred Grant.

One of the characters I learned about while reading the wiki page about the game in my last life. He was also featured in the game.

Alfred is the head butler of the Arclight family. He has been so for 60 years, after gaining the job when was 50 years old.

I know, he should be dead. But in the world of Cosmic Conquerors humans have found ways to increase their lifespan. The average person can naturally live up to 200 years without any problems, and with the advancements in medical technology they can live for close to 300 more barring getting killed or some sort of fatal disease.

So really Alfred is still quite young compared to some.

Moving on.

In the game Alfred was a teacher and an advisor to Leon. He taught him various things from martial arts to politics. Despite his horrible personality. The man hoped his protege would change his ways. But in the end that didn't happen.

But Alfred realized this too late.

For in every route Leon ended up killing Alfred.

Again, original Leon was seriously messed up. For a kid who never suffered any hardships it still baffles me how he turned out so fucked up. But I guess the game developers just wanted him to be that way.

Good thing this isn't a game anymore and I am not him.

To Alfred's words I nodded. "Yes Alfred, I am." I said.

"Thank goodness. We were all so worried after Charlotte found you collapsed on the floor." Alfred told me.

As soon as he did so I focused my gaze on the only other child in the room.

She is a girl my age, which is ten years old. She is dressed in a maid uniform and has light blue hair done up in a high ponytail and matching light blue eyes.

This girl is Charlotte Blanc.

One of the future capture targets of the protagonist, as well as one of original Leon's victims.

'Well, time to start changing things.' I thought.

I put a smile on my face. "Thank you for helping me Charlotte." I told her.

She then shook her head. "No, young master Leon. I was only doing my duty." She retorted.

"Still, thanks all the same." I said.

As I did so Charlotte looked at me with a slightly confused expression on her face.

I wondered why. As I did so memories came to the forefront of my mind. Which showed me that original Leon had already started his abusive campaign toward Charlotte.

'So even as a child he was a little bastard.' I thought.

The game nor wiki ever explicitly stated when Charlotte was assigned to Leon as his personal maid/bodyguard, all it said was that is happened when they were kids. They met the protagonist of the game when they were seventeen. So I assumed Charlotte was assigned to Leon between the ages of 10 and 12, and it looks like I was right on the money.

But again, I never thought he would be abusing her at this age.

The only saving grace I have is that Charlotte was only assigned to Leon two months ago just after his 10th birthday.

Meaning his abuse towards her only just began, which means I have time to undo his mistakes. Since from what I can see Charlotte looks like a nice girl.

Despite being a complete masochist in the future.

At least she was in the game, but I don't know if it will be the same here.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

After thanking Charlotte I turned my gaze back to Alfred. "Alfred I'm fine. Really I am." I told him. Since he has been looking at me with a worried gaze this entire time.

"Well if you say so." He said. "Then the others and I shall take our leave. But we will return to check up on you later."

"That's fine by me." I said.

"Very well." Alfred said.

He then left the room, the other maids and butlers of the mansion following right behind him. The last one closing the door. Leaving only me and Charlotte in the room.

Since she is my personal maid and personal bodyguard in training she rarely ever leaves my side.

Turning my gaze to her I climbed out of bed and moved toward her.

But as I reached her I noticed Charlotte shaking slightly.

"Young master Leon have I done something to offend you?" She asked, fear in her voice.

Not that I can blame her. Since from what I see from original Leon's memories whenever he decided Charlotte "misbehaved" he would "discipline" her by attacking her hands with either a belt or forcing them under scalding hot water.

Turning my gaze to Charlotte's hands I saw healed bruises and burn marks.

The moment I laid eyes on this I felt immense guilt.

Because even though I wasn't the one who caused this, the body I am now inhabiting did and it makes me want to throw up.

Taking a moment I held down the bile rising up in my throat and then gently took Charlotte's hands' in my own.

"Young master, please. Whatever I did I'm sorry and I'll do better next time." Charlotte spoke.

But I shook my head. "Charlotte there is no need for you to be apologizing. Actually I am the one who should be apologizing." I told her.

"Eh?"

"Yes, I should apologize to you." I told her. "For hurting your hands without reason. It was wrong of me. No disgusting. A member of the Arclight family should never act in such a manner, and yet I did towards you. So for that I am immensely sorry, and I swear to you I will never hurt you in an manner ever again." I explained.

"Young master Leon, are you feeling alright, or are you just testing me?" Charlotte questioned.

"I am feeling fine, and no I am not testing you." I told her. "Charlotte when I collapsed on the floor I came to realize that the way I was acting would only lead to horrible things. For myself and for my family. So I wish to turn over a new leaf, and if you'll allow me  I'm hoping we can start over as well."

"I...I...Y-yes. Of course." Charlotte happily said.

"Thank you Charlotte." I told her. "Ah, do you mind if I hug you?"

"No, not at all." She said.

Once she did I gave Charlotte a soft hug.

Signifying the making of amends and the start to our brand new and healthy relationship.

A relationship which would end up going farther than I ever imagined.

But I had no idea at the time.
