Chapter 1: Chapter One – I was admitted!

It was an ordinary afternoon in late summer.

A short boy dozed on a garden bench, with the warm, tipsy breeze brushing his straggling bangs. He covered himself with a pleated school jacket, but the milky petals of gardenia could still fall on his shoulders.

He raised his hand lazily and brushed the petals away.

The August sun still retained a trace of warmth, from the green and yellow leaves of the plane tree quietly flowed out, sprinkled in him to create such a silence. Until a voice broke in.

“Yu Yue, Yu Yue!”

Hearing the sound, the boy sat up straight, rubbed his eyes, stretched, lifted his head and said in a loud voice:

“Here it is!”

A plump girl with a double ponytail flashed out from behind the vine, and ran up to Yu Yue, panting heavily and saying, “I've been looking for you everywhere and can’t find you! Why are you hiding here?”

“What do you want from me?” Yu pinched his nose and squinted slightly. “It's impossible for me to get admitted.”

Hearing this, the girl covered her mouth and laughed.

Yu was astonished by her for a while, and suddenly jumped on the bench, staring his big eyes. “Really?” He shouted, excitedly.

The girl smiled and nodded.

“Oh my goodness! He jumped down from the bench and said with a big smile, “God's eyes are finally open for me!” Twisting and twisting, he put his hands on the girl's shoulders and said, “Lingling, are you sure you are not kidding me?”

Tang Lingling angrily shook off Yu Yue’s hand, said: “I’m not teasing you!” She raised an exaggerated eyebrow and grinned, “Just now the bulletin board has published the list of new secretaries in all departments of the Student Union this semester. I finally got in to see it. In the list of secretaries in the Department of Arts and literature, the first name is yours!”

Seeing Yu Yue's careless appearance, Tang Lingling tapped his forehead with her fingers bent and asked with a smile:

“We all know today is the day of the releasing the list. Other candidates are all on the drive to see it, but you hide here to take a nap? Why? So confident?"

“Of course.” Yu Yue said, “Don’t you know who I am? They don’t have any reason to refuse my application!”

While speaking, he jumped up the steps with a lunge, making an “OK” gesture toward Tang Lingling, and ran away.

“Where are you going?” Shouted Tang Lingling.

“Bulletin board! To look at my big name!”

A few gardenia petals fell silently on the empty bench.

“Hey, don't squeeze, don't squeeze!”

“Lower your head a little! I’m talking to you! Stupid boy!”

"Let me see, let me see!”

Yu Yue trotted from Fangxin Garden to the Teaching Building, and cut across the practice field. As he ran, he spread his arms wide, “Yohoho!” exclaiming happily. When he finally reached the bulletin board at the school gate, it was crowded with curious students.

He tiptoed to the back of the crowd.

Yu Yue’s sight is as long as a kite line, but still cannot reach the board. In front of the crowd one after another, some people cheered, some sighed, some laughed, some boasted. They never gave Yu Yue a chance to see it.
