Chapter 2: Ch 2 – Knife’s origin

And soon she brought two people to the room. Both were 30 year old or so man and woman. 

"Jude Johnson." said the man in a fancy black costume. His hair was combed to be extremely tidy.   

"Yumiko Hatsuma." said the blue haired lady who wore a maid outfit.  

Salim showed them the bloodied knife.

"Is that the murder weapon?" asked Yumiko with a surprise.  

"Have you seen this knife before?" asked Salim seriously. 

 "That knife was certainly from our kitchen." said Jude with concern. 

He formed a pained expression, put his hand on his chest and said "I-I’m so…idiotic, I could have prevented this.”

"What do you mean?!" asked Hellen with surprise and curiosity.  

"I am terribly sorry. But you see, a few hours before Marian discovered the body, I found a knife to be missing from our kitchen set." said Jude with depression. 

"In fact, a similar knife had disappeared around the middle of the day." he added.  

"I see. You need to give us your testimony and alibi as soon as possible." said Salim with a frown.  

"Before that, can we ask about who were inside this mansion during the day of the murder?" asked Klancy while he eyed the two suspects.   

"Of course." said Jude and began expositing. 

"Tenma Sushihara - the owner of this mansion and the…victim. 

Marian Melodona Sushihara - Tenma’s wife. 

Succi Sushihara - Tenma’s son. 

Mew Sushihara - Tenma’s eldest daughter. 

Hori Sushihara - Tenma’s youngest daughter. 

Yumiko Hatsuma - female servant of the house who is standing next to me. 

Reiner Rockhard - bodyguard of the house. 

I myself was here all day. 

Jack Don, Nile Nelson, 

Mikhail Mill, George Keem who are Tenma’s friends and they were invited for dinner today. Joseph Keem who is the son of George and a friend to Succi.” 

While Jude was reporting, Klancy arrived in front of the glass door that leads to the balcony.

He tried to open it but it was locked.

"Ahh, I think you need a master keycard, sir" said Yumiko who had arrived next to him.  

"Master keycard? Where is it? What does it do?" asked Klancy quickly.  

"Ahh, Tenma and Marian are the only people with the master keycards. The master keycard can unlock any door in this mansion. Ahh, Except the research room and the guest bedroom but almost any room can be opened by it. Even the private rooms of other household members." said Yumiko.  

"Cops have checked the pockets of Tenma and found these." said Juniper. 

Juniper pointed at the table. On it was a plastic bag and inside were two items.

There was a grey keycard with a picture of a crown on it and a keychain with various keys on it.

Klancy wore yellow gloves from Salim’s suitcase and pulled out the keycard with crown on it from the bag.

"Yup, what you are holding truly is the master keycard." said Yumiko happily.

"You checked this keycard for fingerprints?" asked Klancy.

Klancy swiped the master keycard on the card swiper of the balcony and a sound of something unlocking resounded. He pulled the door and the breeze of the cold night came rushing into the room. He closed it back.

"Is Marian here?" asked Klancy. 

"yes."

The voice came from the door. Marian, the grey haired lady in dress walked sadly towards Yumiko and Jude, her eyes darting away from the corpse.    

 "You possess the other master keycard, yes?" asked Klancy.  

Marian nodded.

"Hey, I had a master keycard too!" 

The words were said by a long brown haired young adult who was standing next to the door. She wore a light pink dress and walked towards them with arrogance.  

"The name is Mew." 

"Oh yeah? why would Tenma give a troublemaker such as you a master keycard?

Show your master keycard to all these people, if you would may." said Marian with a mighty tone.   

 "Hey, I told you I lost it. But before the day of the murder, dad did give me a master keycard, I swear." said Mew while frowning.  

Marian looked at Klancy and spoke.

"Aside from the master keycards each member of the Sushihara household has a personal keycard for their own room that can lock, unlock it." said Marian.  

"And when I say household members, it includes Yumiko and Jude. But Reiner unfortunately doesn't have his own room. However, the master keycard can open and lock those rooms."

"And you have been keeping a good eye on your own master keycard throughout the day of the murder?" asked Klancy.  

"Yes. I have been occasionally checking my pocket to know it was in there. I didn’t lose it, I am sure of it." said Marian with sharp eyes.  

"Hey, more importantly, have you guys seen Hori, my sister?" Mew asked, concerned.  

"Yeah, it’s true that we couldn’t find her. The last time I met her was around 19 o’clock.

After that I couldn’t find her." said Marian.  

"The policemen who came first have searched this mansion. We didn’t find the young woman named Hori." said Juniper.  

Mew bit her lips, frowned and yelled  "Goddammit, my father was murdered and my sister is missing. This is the shittiest day ever!"

Tears started to swell up in her eyes.

Suddenly Joey jumped into the room with panic.

"Klancy, sir. We found this!" said Joey. 

He brought out a plastic bag with a knife inside it.

"We just found this recently. It was behind the library bookcase." said Joey.  

Galtomor grabbed the bag from him and looked at it’s contents from outside carefully and said "The knife is clean. Yet it does look identical to the murder weapon doesn’t it?"

"Hey, you said two knives went missing. Is this one of them?" asked Salim.

"Why yes, that’s one of the knives we have in the kitchen." said Jude.  

 "Check it for fingerprints. In the meantime. Could you all help the investigation team by drawing a map of the mansion? Would be nice if you detail anything unique about the rooms if there is one.” added Klancy.  

They were given a A3 piece of paper by Klancy.

Marian quickly searched her drawer, brought out pencils and she along with Yumiko and Mew got into work.
